Terrible. The older lady had no clue what she was doing and seemed like she couldn't figure out the best way to cut my hair. I showed her multiple images of what I wanted and she didn't come close. Lia's has been my hair salon in Blacksburg for the last couple years. She or whoever cuts my hair is generally pretty good. The haircut usually ends up being $25 or so before tip. At least for women haircuts.. not sure for guys. You do not normally need to schedule an appointment, walk ins are welcome. Even on the busier days, the wait is not too long. However if you have bangs, beware! When someone is blow drying your hair in this town... they tend to curl-blow dry your bangs and you end up with 80's bangs!! This has happened twice to me already!! I had to rush home to undo the curling before going back out to meet friends for dinner before!! read more

I rate my haircut experience 0 stars. I went in for a cut that should have been three inches total. My hair before the cut was about 2 inches or so below my shoulders, and I went into the salon asking for a trim that is one inch below my chin. I told the hairdresser multiple times (even while she was cutting) that i wanted it an inch or 2 BELOW my chin. I showed her with my fingers where I wanted it. And the haircut ended up being way too short, right BELOW MY EARS...about 3 inches above my chin!!!! I could have done this haircut better myself. I payed 42 dollars for this haircut (35 dollars with a 7 dollar tip) because I am too nervous to be confrontational to the hairdressers because I don't like causing problems. But, this is just ridiculous. read more

I was in desperate need of a haircut, so I called and made an appointment for a simple cut which was quoted to me at $25. I was ecstatic as that is the cheapest cut I personally had ever had, and the reviews on Yelp were pleasant. I asked for about three inches off when I got there, and I left with an astounding 6-7 inches off. I was mortified to say the least. Not only did she take off way more hair than initially agreed upon, she insisted on diffusing my hair which I had said I really did not wish for. I ran home mortified and quickly straightened my hair (I have curly hair) and realized that the cut was completely uneven! I called and drove all the way back and luckily she "evened it out" free of charge even though she insisted it was a very minor difference & that the cut was even to begin with. After it was "fixed" I have still had to cut my own hair to even out the still uneven cut. I will not be returning. read more

The mother and daughter that own the place are the only people I'll let cut my hair. They do a fantastic job and are extremely kind. However, I came in today for a routine cut that I normally get and had a different lady cut my hair. Midway through my cut, she told me she had to go style this other woman's hair and told me it would only be a few minutes. 25 minutes later, she comes back to finish the job. While I sat in the chair, 2 other customers came in and and got their haircuts before my lady came back to finish mine. Lia's salon saved my face after I got my eyebrows butchered downtown at the place by Subway in Kent Square. Seriously, the girl had no idea what she was doing, she ripped my skin off, I was bleeding, she didn't clean the brows up at all. If anything, she just made them worse. Pissed off, ready to punch a baby, and desperate, I went into Homebody and the owner suggested Lia's. I walked into the salon and Lia could see I was not happy and she assured me she would fix everything. She was so kind and was able to fix what the other place ruined. She actually didn't even charge me because she felt bad I was so traumatized. I love this place and I love Lia. She is absolutely wonderful. Her and her boss made sure I left the salon looking the way I had come in for. I got 3-5 inches cut off to get rid of my all my ends and got my bangs shaped. Do not get your hair cut here! I went here to get my hair trimmed. An older women cut my my hair and said she was only going to take an inch off. She ended up cutting 3 inches off! The cut was not even on both sides, with the left side a little longer (unfortunately enough to be noticeable). Also, the cut is extremely uneven with some random chunks of hair longer (by 3 inches) than the hair around it. She missed a lot of pieces of hair and it looks horrible. Now I have to pay to get it fixed at another salon since it looks awful. I will never go here again and I recommend for you to STAY AWAY! You'll get better results having a 10 year old cut your hair! read more

Although I had to wait almost 45 minutes for the hair stylist to start on my hair (because there was a girl in front of me whose hair took longer than expected which is understanding), Lia's is one of the best hair salons I've been to. They put a ton of oil in my hair and then straightened it. Everyone knows that oil and heat fries things, so my hair was fried. My hair was completly ruined. I asked for half an inch to be cut off and instead, many inches were cut off. I specifically said don't cut all of my hair to the length of the back of my hair, which is the shortest, and that's exactly what was done. The products that were used on my hair were hair products that are sold at Target. There was hair in the brushes from other people. I ended up finding blonde hair in my hair when I went home. No one spoke to me the whole time I was in there. There was a dog that walked around in the store and the whole back of the store is a day care and it seemed like taking care of the baby was more important than the customers. read more

Incredible service - got my hair washed, and the haircut turned out amazing! Possibly the best treatment I ever had. In Vancouver, Canada (where I grew up), everyone only cuts hair (i.e., does not necessarily include washing/cleaning) and does it very quickly. Whereas here at Lia's, the one who cut my hair definitely took her time to make sure I was happy with the haircut. Though, the catch is the price: the haircut itself ended up being $33 before tip, which is almost double what I have been paying in Vancouver. Hence, the service is excellent but the price can be on the higher side - it was a tad pricey for me, especially as a graduate student! read more

I was not impressed with my haircut at all. I told the hairstylist I wanted a trim with light layers and little angles, but nothing drastic because I wanted to grow my hair out. She kept cutting and cutting and I didn't know when she was ever going to stop! The haircut came out ok, but my hair was very flat and had no body when it normally has some body to it.
