I called Top Quality when my 31" snow thrower with a Briggs and Stratton engine started leaking gas while both running and not running. I liked that a tech would come to me and that the reviews were all good. Take this against the other reviews, but I advise you to run away. Rarely in five decades of life have I experienced such an overflow of unprofessional behavior and shoddy service. When the tech (and company owner) Bill arrived at my house (after a month-long wait) he took my snow thrower out to his truck. The leaking gas filled a cylinder, seizing the engine. Bill said he drained the cylinder, put air in my tires, "cleaned up" some other parts, and now it was working just fine. I asked what he did to fix the leak? He shrugged. Said no leaking at that moment meant nothing to fix. Said the original "could be this, could be that. Maybe the carburetor. Maybe a stuck fuel float. But it's not leaking anymore, so, nothing to fix." This didn't sit well with me. (It's a small engine. We're talking less than two or three possibilities, and he was saying he couldn't be bothered to find and fix the problem.) It was at that point running without leaks, so I paid him and he was gone. Two days later, another snowfall, and after about 5 min of running the snow thrower, gas and/or oil started spewing from the engine. I called Top Quality again, and again, Bill came back out, irritated. I was too. After all, I paid him to fix my machine, and it wasn't fixed. However, when I started it up for him, it again ran without leaking. So, he said he would do nothing even though I showed him the video of it was leaking the day before and clearly there is an ongoing problem. Dig into it deeper, I begged, as no machine in the history of machines has ever fixed itself. He refused. Said he wouldn't argue about it and that he was too busy. It was running, he said, so just use it and call if the problem comes back. As I continued to press him to look further, he turned his back on me, got into his truck and drove off. After little more than a five minutes of using it, I looked down to see the engine ON FIRE. It had started leaking again. And this time, it ignited. I immediately called back Bill's cell (no answer) then I called the main business line. (no answer.) I left messages. Twenty minutes later, Bill came back. My unhappiness was made worse when Bill acknowledge his failure to do even the most basic of mechanical work that would have kept the fire from happening. He even accused me of starting the fire, going so far as to suggest I must've pushed the priming bubble 10 times while the machine was running. Who the heck pushes the priming bubble on a running machine once, much less 10 times? I was floored. He then lied through his teeth and said he saw me do it. I could not believe what I was hearing. I told him if he was done with the ridiculous accusations, I expected him to find the original problem he should have found in the first place, and that he would be responsible for any damage that happened because he failed to do the job for which I'd already paid. While wheeling the snow thrower down to his trailer, he continues yelling back at me, saying he'll do no such thing, and that if I was unsatisfied, "I don't care." At that point, I told him to get his hands off my machine and to get off my property. Look folks, I don't write negative reviews. I just don't. But this experience? Anyone seeing this company's good reviews will think they're going to get competence and good service. I want you to know that's just not true. Look elsewhere for small engine repair. Otherwise, like me, you'll end up paying more to someone else who is competent to fix the damage the terribly-named Top Quality will cause to your machine. read more
