What are the prices? No price tags or labels! And why didnt I get an itemized receipt at the register? I asked! They didnt give. It's the mystery prices and no receipt given that weirds me out about the place. The selection was fine. read more

I really love this store! It's great to be able to buy groceries locally, they have fresh stock, and they have a surprising amount of various ingredients you might need for a recipe. My one complaint is that it's difficult to shop there on a budget. I don't have any problem with the prices themselves, but labeling of items within the store is very sporadic and sometimes inaccurate. Usually I don't know what 70% of what I'm getting costs until I get to the counter, and if money is tight, I would like to be informed enough to choose less expensive produce that's in season. It seems like they do have a full list of prices for produce behind the counter and dry goods have prices according to bar codes, but it would be really helpful if they posted their price list somewhere in the store or online so shoppers could plan what they want. I would recommend the store in general, but be careful if you're trying to stay on a strict budget with no room for surprises. read more

This neighborhood grocery store pretty much has everything you might need to throw together a decent meal. Lots of fresh produce, with a whole center section for organics. Locally-made bread, with gluten-free options...and tortillas too! As for canned goods, you have to keep your eyes peeled for deals cause they'll stock those in larger quantities due to high turnover. It's taken me half a year to even enter this store because the storefront simply wasn't enticing enough, but it does reflect the unkempt nature you'll find waiting inside. I'm big on presentation, esp. if I'm going to be wandering in and out of a store on a weekly basis. Though the store looked much cleaner on this second visit... Appearance aside, I was really hoping I'd found an alternative to Safeway but unfortunately, they don't carry a mainstay of mine - Lactaid...sigh. Back to the drawing board I go. read more

This where I have gotten my produce for the last 10 years. So I thought it was about time to write a review. The produce is good quality and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and very efficient. Kim's Farm Market was down a few businesses, but it closed. So Top Ten produce is doing something right. They are always willing to assistant a customer. read more

One of my favourite produce places near UBC. Good selection of fresh produce and fruits. Back of the store has a great selection of Asian items including Japanese staples that are hard to find in other grocers. Staff are excellent and always very helpful read more

They don't always win on price, but the quality of their produce is fantastic because they buy the top grade and continuously cull anything that doesn't meet their standards. The breadth of dry goods is phenomenal - several times I've searched the city for a product only to find it on the shelf at Top Ten, two blocks from my house. They are also good on dairy - Avalon in glass FTW - packaged cheeses, sausages (e.g. Freybe), and limited poultry. Lately they have added a line of artisan breads. I've been a regular at Top Ten for over a year now, and I try to buy as much of my groceries here. The guys are the hardest working, most decent bunch you could hope to meet. If you like the sterile atmosphere of a regular supermarket then Top Ten may not be for you. If you like to support independent business with character and good prices, then definitely check out the Top Ten. read more

My first review since moving to Vancouver. First I have to say that I made the horrible mistake of making Safeway the first grocery store I tried to go to in Vancouver. It was the most absurdly expensive and disappointing selection I have ever experienced in my life. It made me question my choice to move here. Luckily, I stumbled into Top Ten Produce. The prices are incredibly reasonable for Vancouver and the have an excellent selection of produce. Not a ton of organic produce, but pretty much everything I have bought here and seen is incredibly fresh-looking and has tasted good. There is also quite a wide variety of items considering how small the shop is. Also, the people working are always really nice. Sure, they don't have everything you need, but they have enough of my staples to make me want to shop here on a regular basis. Thanks Top Ten! read more

A mighty little store. Top Ten is a great place. Yes it's a bit expensive. No, it isn't set up to look like an apple store. No they don't carry Lactaid ;) But Top Ten it is a refreshing alternative to the typical big box style chain groceries. It's local. The grocers are great people who have been in place for a long time. They are helpful. They play actual music and not muzak on their (pretty solid) speakers. The store is tight and packed to the gills. If you can't find it, ASK...they probably have it. Also, I like that they support the local business. They carry a lot of specialty items. They also have local eggs and dairy! I have on occasion seen a neighboring restauranteur run in to grab something they were short of. It is a refreshing moment of specificity in a city that is rapidly being converted into an outdoor chain shopping mall. Top Ten is a great little one-off grocery store with character and heart. You know, like they have in other cities. Go there! read more

Shopping for groceries is tedious, in my mind; however, Top Ten Produce makes this tedious chore bearable. Reasons why. 1) amazing sound track every time I shop, who knew great music could make shopping bearable. 2) Friendly, laid back staff; there when you have a question, otherwise they leave you alone. 3) Quality fruit and veg, with just the right amount of choice. 4) All the essentials when it comes to dry goods, with a eclectic selection of different items. 5) Diversity, personal favourites e.g., Yorkshire tea and dark chocolate digestives, and a variety of brands/foods I am not familiar with; but, I enjoy sampling, i.e. Italian pizza flour with Italian instructions. 6) A good selection of dairy and frozen foods, I am sure they cater for all dietary needs. 7) And, very important, plenty of local goods, which is very important; shopping locally for local produce. read more

Hurray! Non-Chinese garlic! That stuff is acrid, tough and has none of the nuance of garlic grown without some kind of growth stimulants. None of the non-organic stores on the West Side have it so I have to go to Urban Fare or Choices. It's the same thing with Chinese ginger. I am grateful to Top Ten Produce for that garlic. Yes, the store is in some disarray and there were no price signs on prominently displayed items like blueberries so I had to ask. There were at least two other items I didn't buy; one was a display of bags upon bags of Que Pasa tortilla chips that I passed on because there were no price signs. You would think after having been asked questions like that a few times they would put up a sign but maybe the denizens of this neigbourhood don't care about prices. The young man with the apron and many tattoos on his arms was very helpful and congenial. I'll be back. One more thing: I'd like to find a produce store that has a refrigerated area for delicate plants like cilantro so they wouldn't yellow and become limp so quickly. read more

Every community needs a friendly neighbourhood vegetable store. Top Ten Produce is a great store that has almost everything I need to stock up on healthy supplies. There is something for everyone (except carnivores). Some of the people that work there....Vi, Mathew and Keith to only name a few, are friendly, receptive, smiling and helpful. They work fast and make sure the lines run at a quick pace. I know I can shop at that store in a rush and be checked out quickly. The produce is fresh and well displayed. Although it might not have the flash and sterility of Kim's down the street (which moved in long after Top Ten made 10th its home), the clean environment, fresh produce, music, warmth and friendly faces makes it all the more worthwhile to visit. read more

If for some reason I had to buy all of my groceries from one place, this would be it. The produce is abundant, fresh, and cheap - far better than the Kin's Market that opened up further down the block. Although some of the stuff in their "grocery" aisles is overpriced, I've found absolute steals on other things (like Better than Bouillon or coconut milk). I'm convinced that you could find anything you're looking for in here if you looked long enough. If you don't want to look that long, all of the guys working there are very friendly and helpful. I would seriously be sad to move out of the neighbourhood because it means no longer shopping here. Protip: cheaper Mario's Gelati and Ben & Jerry's in the back freezer case. read more
