I'm quite impressed with the wide range of international food here. I found my go to No Frills store now. Even though it's much further for me (there are two other NF nearer me), this store is way bigger. The only killjoy is the current construction mess on Broadway. TIP: enter via Alberta to get to the rooftop parking (1 hour free). The meat and produce are similar to other stores. What I'm really interested in are the non typical stuff found in other grocery stores. Besides the Asian stuff, you can find more choices for the Latin American, middle eastern and European food products. I saw date syrup, frozen cevapcici, many types of teas and candies. There is also a small section for halal meat. The store is pleasant to shop in and staff is quick to assist. Prices are fair and they do price matching too. Another tip: remember the produce code for loose items which need weighing. The system doesn't show the range of items at the self check out. You can always ask the staff too. read more

Joti's No Frills on West Broadway is my go-to spot for grocery shopping! It is budget friendly and their products do not compromise on quality. The store's layout is clean and well-organized, with clearly marked aisles that make navigating through the shelves a breeze. I think Joti's No Frills focuses on what truly matters - providing a wide selection of pantry staples, household essentials as well as international items at budget-friendly prices. I occasionally also get their no-name brand products because it helps me save significantly on my grocery bills. Their produce section is not as extensive as some of the other grocery stores but again, it is budget friendly. I would say that if you are looking to buy produce from here, I would recommend going during the day time because most of their fresh produce are gone by evening. One area where Joti's No Frills could improve is the variety of specialty and organic products. While the store does carry some, expanding this selection in my opinion could attract a broader range of customers. I also really like their reusable shopping bags because of their size and sturdiness. The staff are friendly and always quick to help at the checkout counter. Another big thing for me is that they don't take American Express or Mastercard which reduces my incentive to go there often. The brightly lit store has to be the largest No Frills I've been to (larger than Brandon's and Justin's). Unfortunately, it's on Broadway and surrounded by Skytrain extension construction, however it's still accessible. The produce section was well-stocked and looked great and everything else you'd expect on the shelves. What stood out to me was the selection of 'ethnic' options that I haven't seen anywhere else. Lots of European and Asian goods. There seems to be an ethnic aisle but I also found a section in the shelving by the frozen food area. For example, I bought a couple boxes of tea (Iron Buddha, Pur Eh) that were made in Hong Kong (which is becoming harder to find) as well as lots of tinned fish from Latvia, Iceland, and other countries. The fish was in the 'ethnic' area and not on shelves with regular canned tuna/sardines. I even found tinned cod liver ... a delicacy that my husband enjoys. And, I found a Chinese cough syrup and at a much better price than T&T. Pleasantly surprised! read more

The employee pulled a line of shopping carts to the entrance from the cashier area and blocked the customers from exiting the store. She did not yield to customers as they tried to pass by the carts to exit. She just moved over to the middle part of the line of carts and pulled the carts from there slowly as if she did not know what to do. It did not make sense at all. She should push the carts away quickly for customers to exit the store and not block others. This is common sense; you do not need to be trained to do this. She made it difficult for customers to exit because she wanted the customers to yield to her. The store did not care about customers. read more

After our visit to Nitobe Memorial Garden, Nancy and I went to Joti's No Frills to do some grocery shopping. Nancy was going on about how great this particular location was, and I have to admit, I thought she was a little nuts - really, what grocery store is THAT good? The grocery stores that I have been to in Vancouver suck, and the other No Frills stores are no exception. But nope, she was right -- this particular No Frills is GREAT! We went on a holiday Monday afternoon, and I don't know if we happened to go during a particularly quiet time, but the store was not crowded with morons, nor were the aisles blocked with pallets and carts of merchandise (Dean's No Frills on Fraser Street always seem to be stocking inventory, although there are never employees around, or merchandise on the shelves). And speaking about the aisles, they seemed larger than at other grocery stores, and not once did I have any trouble getting around. Several cash registers were open (something that is a rare occurrence at Dean's No Frills), and there were hardly any lineups. Even if there were, there would have been space to properly line up (unlike Dean's No Frills). Living downtown in Yaletown for years, you end up paying through the nose for groceries if you don't leave the area ( IGA /Nesters/Choices ) Previously when I did venture out to the Broadway Cambie/ area for food shopping, Wholes Foods isn't exactly cheap. Save on Foods is a bit lower- but not by much. Imagine my shock & surprise to discover that just a little bit down off the main area ( aka the beat n track ) there is a No frills store. It was big, bright and open until 11pm ! My husband went one way, and I attempted to get a cart. I was unsuccessful as it requires a loonie, and of course I didn't have one. It was too busy to get one from the cashier, so I settled for a pull basket. By the time I was done it was over flowing ! We got so much stuff ! Everything thing was so much less then I am used to paying. I was seriously impressed. Some items were 1/3 to 1/2 of the price. I will return, I just wish it was a bit closer. read more

The prices are sure better than a lot of grocery stores. Pretty good selection of items and lots of fresh fruit n veg. Plenty of diverse ethnic foods too. Too many times the items i buy are expired. Yesterday I bought a few things and I didn't check until i got home. The maple bacon had expired a month ago (see pic). And the Japanese wonder noodle inside had a moldy appearance. It was sealed. The other ones were ok. Everyone CHECK your EXPIRY DATES especially here, and each item, so you dont have to double back. Make sure the seals are tight on spreads and the like! read more

Not sure what the difference is between No Frills and Superstore, as No Frills seems to be a mini version of the latter. Parking is available on the roof of the building. As mentioned, it does seem a lot like Superstore. Maybe with a bit of Super Valu mixed in. Staff were helpful, and I was able to find what I was looking for. read more

Wow. I had some errands in this neighborhood today and stumbled in here by chance. And my family and I were blown away by this place! It's huge, like a mini-warehouse, and has SO much food, at bargain prices - WAY cheaper than any we've encountered since moving to Vancouver a month ago. (For you Seattle-ites out there, this place is a lot like Cash & Carry, except better! You don't have to buy in bulk, the selection is way bigger and there's a lot more fresh produce). We got a ton of fruit and veggies, and breads, and canned foods, and cereal and granola bars. I was kicking myself about the spices I had purchased the past few weeks at other grocery stores; I spent at least 4x's more on spices elsewhere (sometimes way more than that!).This is definitely the place to shop for baking and cooking ingredients. There were tons of cookies and crackers here, too, and canned fruits. And I'm not talking weird generic brands, either; they carry President's Choice, Campbell's soups, all the main cereal brands, etc. And the frozen selection of foods is humongous! I also liked how they have kosher foods and other International cuisine foods. There's fresh cheeses and deli meats and chicken, too, but I didn't recognize the brands so I didn't inspect them closely. The deli meats looked extra processed. We don't usually purchase Bologna anyhow. But we did get packaged baked chicken strips that looked good. And in the dairy aisle, we got a lot of Oikos Greek yogurts. Unlike most grocery stores in the city, this one doesn't charge for parking! (I wish we had known that!). And if you forget to bring your bags (like us), they'll give you boxes for free (like Costco!). Our cashier lady was super nice. Very personable and helpful. And her line moved fast, too. When a place calls itself No Frills, they really mean: No. Frills. Despite its glaring yellow signs, bare shelves and limited selection, there's something really quite refreshing about this place. In this heyday of high-end grocery set-ups and fancy cheese displays, I like a place that convincingly says I'm not paying for any of that crap. This is a place to pick up the staples - toothpaste, toilet paper, cookies. If you want organic apples or gorgonzola, go to Whole Foods. No Frills however is great for all those little nick nacks. I really like this spot. The renos they did a little while ago give it a nice, contemporary feel. They also have a good variety of health food. I do think their pricing could be more competitive though, as it is pretty much par with Whole Foods. I really love the Kosher/Israeli section they have. Prepare to be blinded by yellow. No Frills is a chain from the east coast, and you can treat it like a mini "Real Canadian Superstore" (without the houseware/electronics section) as it has the same Loblaws owner. As such, it carries in-house brands like "President Choice" and "No Name." Prices are very good and produce at this location was much better than the horrors of a Superstore (brand new so time will tell if that will be the norm). I can not speak for the meat/deli quality, but I believe it is all prepackaged as there was no deli slicing counter. Overall, No Frills is more comparable to the Buy Low in the area as a grocery store business model. Both seem to have their pros and cons for stock, really depends on what your brand loyalties and needs are. At the very least, it's great for stocking up a pantry of staples on the cheap. read more

I was just in the No Frills & was asked, at the cash register, after lining up for god knows how long, whether I would open my cotton shopping bag!! I had all the produce from No Frill in a plastic shopping basket provide by them & put it in on the carousel for paying & the girl had the cheek to ask me if she could look in my shopping bag (full of stuff bought previously at London Drugs. Excuse me? "It is none of your business, actually", I said, but like an idiot I opened the bag for her to look in - at a distance. Then I kicked my self for being so submissive as to show her. This No Frills could kick the shit out of the West End No Frills any time! To provide some back story: I have visited the Denman store many times and every time it was a chore due to the store being a disaster and the staff being rude. One time I was treated with such disrespect by the cashier I was forced to loudly announce that she was a C*NT! But don't worry, she earned that title! This store is Gold compared to Denman...the Broadway location is amazingly clean, tidy, well stocked and their staff actually grasp the concept that their customers don't want to be glared at while they begrudgingly request your hard earned dollars in exchange for their mediocre goods. The selection is fabulous, they even have a pretty extensive ethnic section that I will hit up at a later date.gro I love me some sauces and marinades and this store pretty much has a whole aisle of them!! They also have pretty decent produce which is surprising considering this store is a descendant of Superstore which has notoriously awful produce. This will be my new go to grocery store cause in this neighborhood groceries ain't cheap! I need a store like this in my hood for those weekends I end up spending most of my grocery money on liquor and whores! read more

This no frills kick's a**!!! The one on 4th, Denman, and Alma/4th... need to check this place out! It's huge! Always lots of friendly/helpful staff on, plus 4 self-checkouts. Sometimes they are out of sale items, but it's busy, so I get it. Way more choices, better organized, large organic section, prices that cannot be beat in this city! My cart is packed... top and bottom! With mostly organic foods for usually around 160-200$ It's 1/4 or a 1/3 of the prices of Choices or WholeFoods. Whatever they don't have here, in the organic/vegan department, I like to head to Greens Grocery Store on Broadway and Maple. I do shop Costco for about 20 big items a year, and IGA from time to time, but Joti's just blows 90% of the competition away , 100% of the time! read more

Still the same massive, slightly offensive to the eyes, yellow signs everywhere announcing the BIG savings you're sure to get when purchasing two 6-roll packs of paper towel over one 12-roll; still the same grody, yellow, one-handled baskets that necessitate you use those disposable clear plastic bags for any fruit or vegetables you may end up purchasing; still the same insanely bright lights that are also used in 7-11s around the globe. No Frills is the Real Canadian Superstore's smaller, cheaper, electronics and clothes-free younger brother. There is tons of options in terms of groceries, and carries everything from brand name to president's choice to no name. The best thing about this place is definitely the prices. When we moved here from California and had to restock our entire pantry, we were able to replace a lot of staples and condiments for cheap. Another great thing is that this store never seems to be crowded or dirty. One great thing to get here is bread. We've purchased a french loaf and some sourdough bread, and both have been really fresh and inexpensive. There is tons of parking on the roof of this store. There are two huge elevators you can take from the roof to get to the main floor of the store. I don't think there are any stairs leading down from the roof, so the elevator is the only option to access the store from the parking lot. Just be careful when you're leaving the parking lot, because its entrance/exit is off a narrow alleyway that barely fits two cars going in opposite directions. read more

The Key to affordable grocery shopping in Vancity I can't say I'm in love with No Frills. I share the Green Lantern's disdain for the color Yellow as well. So No Frills isn't the most visually attractive place to go to. But just like that weird looking person with the heart of gold and genius IQ, it's what's inside that counts. It seems that every day they have a deal on something. Which is funny because its known for being the cheapest place or one of the cheapest places to grocery shop in Vancouver. So having a deal while already being cheaper than most other places (I'm talking to you Save on Foods. Your discount card still brings food to a higher price than No Frills a lot of the time...although I do love your store Greeter. She's very nice and deserves a salary bump). The selection is just the same for the most part when compared to the other stores. Its not big on the word "organic". But you can get organic and Free run eggs along with other things. But don't expect an assortment of organic meat cause you'll be disappointed. Their pharmacy section is quite small but has what I need. I'd compare it to about half the size of other grocery stores. But you can expect the essentials and more. Parking is amazing. In fact...it's amazing. So many area's to park and especially for being on Broadway...I'm pretty impressed. Customer Service is dependent on who you get. But to be honest I go here at least three times a week and I haven't seen a Customer Service Rep who was very negative. They generally are quite friendly and helpful. Conclusion. Unless you've won the lottery or are making over $50,000 a year, you should spend most of your grocery shopping here. My eyes tell me that its Saturday evening, I'm in a club on Granville and the ugly lights have just come on at the end of the night. My brain tells me I've actually just stepped into Joti's No Frills on Broadway. MY EYES! They were burning! I wasn't bothered so much by the abundance of yellow, as I was by the level of brightness in the store. It wasn't even remotely natural! I digress. I shopped on a Friday night around 8 - because I am so cool like that. But really, it was dead. I did a major shop and I was in and out in half an hour TOPS. I can imagine this location getting stupid busy during peak times, for some reason I found it small and in some spots cramped. (Maybe I'm just used to Superstore?). They were out of broccoli and carrots, as well as most of the items on the flyer, but I will chalk this up to my waiting until the dead of night on a Friday to go get food. My cashier was very friendly and we chatted as she rang me through. As silly as it seems, a cashier who is willing to make small talk (when appropriate of course) really makes or breaks my shopping experience. Great location and super cheap mark downs on just about anything. We make the trip to this location once every month or so to top up on items like cheese which you can't find cheaper anywhere else in the city. The only downsides are that due to the huge volume of customers this place gets shopped out pretty quick and a lot of produce can be found dropped out of cart all around the store, like a bell pepper in the cereal isle! Remember when Superstore came around and became the ultimate supermarket for groceries...then clothing..houseware....toys...and whatever else you can think of under the sun?? Well, let me introduce you to No Frills...and like the name, its straight up groceries....and none of the other stuff to entice you to get. Although, selection for organic fruits and vegetables is saved for a teeny tiny space in the corner, you will be satisfied with what else they have: very basic necessities for food (so don't expect too many cool ethnic stuff). They have the biggest frozen food section I have ever seen...rack after rack of frozen pizzas, veggies, fruits, chicken wings, burgers, ice cream, popsicles, frozen meals....and the list goes on! Great prices here...definitely come here to save yourself a few dollars! My favorite part of this store is the Pharmacy. I have been using their pharmacy for just over 6 months. The customer service in this section is amazing. I've had 3 different pharmacists assist me and they all rock! They also give you portions of what isn't covered through pharmacare as 'money coupons' towards your next grocery bill! Thats pretty awesome...save on prescription then save on groceries. Being from Ontario, I'm used to seeing multiple No Frills locations in the city. I was surprised that No Frills wasn't as big out west vs. east coast considering how expensive groceries are in Vancouver. It is my main grocery store to get staples. I used to go to the one in Kits/Point Grey (Broadway @ Alma), now I go to the Broadway/Cambie one. I love PC blue menu and the $3, $2, $1 sales this store has. The other major plus is that this location carries MUCH more ethnic food than others. It carries some Asian & South Asian vegetables, noodles, and frozen foods. Some tips I've learned from talking to staff: 1. This place is dead on weekend mornings before 10. So if you want to beat the rush and can't get here after work, that's the time I recommend. 2. Sale items are always found around the perimeter of the store (not in the aisles) 3. Milk and eggs are generally cheaper here than Save On 4. Free parking on the roof (access via Alberta or Yukon st off Broadway) The only knocks I have on this place is that the produce isn't the freshest all the time. It's pretty good but I suppose you get what you pay for. The other knock is that they don't really handle rainchecks and items found in the flyer but not in the store. The staff sort of brush you off or try to skirt the question by playing the clueless card. If those aren't dealbreakers for you, this place is a great alternative to the paycheque eater to the east known as Whole Foods. read more

I really hate shopping at Superstore, since I work 9-5 I can only visit when it's insanely busy and big (slow) crowds of people blocking the aisles with shopping carts and huge checkout lines make my visits to Superstore very rare (even if it is cheap). So when when I found out about No Frills it seemed like they'd created the perfect supermarket for me. Smaller, less crowded, and with some things even cheaper than Superstore, sounds perfect! I love the fact that there's not too much selection, makes for easy decision making for me (usually president's choice stuff is quite appealing). If I'm looking for something specific I'll usually go somewhere else because the selection and prices here are random, but they do what they do perfectly and I really do like shopping here. My favourite is the 97cent raspberry and blueberry pints in the summer :). They only accept mastercard (no visa/amex). read more

Roof top parking is a plus but regardless of how big the elevators are, it can be a challenge if the place is really busy and everyone uses the rooftop parking. Aisles are a bit slim in some areas, so there can be traffic jams in the meat aisle just outside of the produce section. If you are into alot of that processed and canned and frozen food this will be your Presidents Choice haven. For me, I was looking for sugar free ice cream. Nope, didn't find it. (lost one star) Produce is good. Most of the pricing was competitive, some not so good, but when an item is on sale, it's decently reduced. Great discount grocery store with a large selection of normal day-to-day items and relatively good ethnic selection especially Filipino items which I haven't seen in other grocery stores in Vancouver. Fresh meat is relatively limited so I do not bother with that in this store, but they have great selection of frozen foods and produce is pretty fresh and reasonable. Rooftop parking is free and accessible from the lane behind the store. Elevator from parking to main floor where the store is situated in case you need it. They charge for bags so bring your own and only accept cash, debit and mastercard only, no VISA. read more
