Checking my old review, I have been visiting Don Taco for over twelve years! Over the years they…read morehave expanded from a four-tables set up to one with an outdoor patio area, and now finally moved across the street to become a full service restaurant with a restroom. They still keep the colorful decor they used to have in the old place, a little kitschy but charming nonetheless. The menu has really expanded. Needless to say, $1 taco days are long gone. They do still have $2 tacos, on Tuesday and take out only. (Curiously, we felt that if they had allowed dine in, we would have ordered drinks and maybe some appetizers and other stuff and they would have made more money off us.). Otherwise, the tacos are like $5 each, and they do have a lot of unusual varieties if you want to try something beyond the regular chicken, al pastor and chorizo. Another thing I missed is they used to have a condiment bar with like eight different types of salsa. Now they serve the varieties to you along with some tortilla strips, so you can get a taste of six varieties, and ask them for more of your favorites. Still a great place for authentic Mexican food.

My husband and I discovered this wonderful family run restaurant almost a year ago. After moving to…read moreFlorida from California, we missed the abundance of good authentic affordable Mexican food. While friends were visiting, I found Papasitos on Yelp and thought we could give it a try. I swear I would never have known this place was there if I didn't have my map app telling me where to turn! It is kind of hidden since it is tucked on the side next to an auto audio shop which is very visible on US Hwy 19. Unfortunately, it is extremely easy to miss this gem of a restaurant and I bet a lot of people drive past it all the time and don't even notice it. On our first visit, we were extremely impressed and surprised at how delicious everything was! We have not only been returning on a regular basis, we have gotten our daughter's family (including my young grandkids who are picky eaters!) hooked on Papasitos too! We all recommend it to anyone we know who wants good Mexican food. Our favorite menu items are the chicken tinga quesadilla (highly recommend it!), pastor taco, blackened shrimp taco, chicken enchiladas and carne asada burrito. Top it off with their freshly made churros - sooo yummy! Hats off to the owners who treat us like family now. A special thanks to their son, Lorenzo, who is the server. He remembers all our orders without us having to say anything. Now that's service! I hope anyone reading my review goes and supports this really great small family business. I guarantee that you'll be hooked on their food once you do!

A Delicious Discovery: Authentic Mexican Gem in New Port Richey…read more This weekend, my husband Eriq and I headed up to our favorite Thai spot, only to find it closed. Hangry levels were rising fast, so we pivoted to a nearby Mexican grocery store and market that had been on my radar from glowing reviews. It delivered big time on authentic flavors, generous portions, and warm hospitality. Tucked at the back of the well-stocked Latin grocery store is a casual dining area where you order fresh-made Mexican classics. The menu offers plenty of traditional options and cool protein choices. One of the cooks kindly brought me a little sample cup of their pozole when I asked about it -- tender, falling-off-the-bone pork in a rich broth. Absolute perfection. (She also mentioned their menudo, but I politely passed on that one!) We decided on the tostadas, and wow -- for $13.99 you get three super-crispy house-made tortillas piled high with toppings. I went with two chicken and one steak (which was tender). The chicken was incredibly flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth tender from slow-cooking in spices. Fresh shredded lettuce, cilantro, crumbled cheese, a drizzle of crema, and slices of avocado on top made every bite fantastic. Eriq loved the al pastor version he tried and powered through all three. He also ordered a carnitas taco (which looked excellent, but he ran out of room!). The tortillas held up beautifully under all the toppings -- no crumbling disasters, which is rare and impressive. They brought out two house hot sauces (a smoky red and a vibrant green salsa) that were outstanding, plus ice-cold Mexican sodas made with real cane sugar. Service was friendly and attentive, with staff bringing food out promptly. The whole place felt genuinely authentic (we might have been the only non-Latino folks there, always a great sign), the grocery section was small but well stocked with staples, fresh meats and produce. If you're in the Holiday/NPR area and craving real-deal Mexican food at very reasonable prices, definitely stop in. We'll be back soon -- those tostadas are going to haunt my dreams in the best way possible.

Great food at a fair price. Friendly staff. I will return to try more of the menu. Local family runread more
