Updated Review: Do not trust Darryl Huie or DL Reston…read more While he may come across as friendly and helpful, my experience was the opposite. I found him to be manipulative and unprofessional and, in my opinion, took advantage of my difficult personal circumstances. In Dec 2017, just weeks after losing my mom and sister and months after moving into my beautiful new home, I discovered a water leak that caused significant damage to my kitchen and multiple rooms. I initiated a claim with my insurance company, and began gathering quotes from three separate contractors -- one of whom was Darryl Huie. His initial demeanor was overly eager and persistent. Despite not being awarded the project, he repeatedly inserted himself into the process, including contacting my insurance adjuster without my consent, showing up to my property unannounced, and calling, emailing, and texting me constantly. I was grieving, overwhelmed, and traveling frequently for work and trying to get my family affairs in order, so I allowed limited access to my home strictly for estimation purposes. Not for any actual work. Darryl claimed that even if I didn't move forward with certain repairs, I was still obligated to pay him the entire labor amount my insurance company had awarded, even for work he wasn't doing. He warned me that I could be reported for insurance fraud if I didn't hand over all the funds to a licensed contractor (i.e., him). In my opinion, he used my inexperience with the insurance process to pressure and intimidate me, which I now see as taking advantage of my vulnerable situation. When I declined to move forward, he entered my home without permission while I was traveling and removed the granite countertop, then claimed it broke due to a "preexisting condition" which would have to be filed under a second claim. He later attempted to manipulate the situation by suggesting he could help get it covered under the initial claim if I gave him the job. I considered this a serious ethical violation and reported it to my insurer. When I returned home, I found my road bike missing from the garage and the broken granite left behind. I then received a $1,200 invoice for "services" for removal of the granite countertop, which I never approved. He eventually sued me in small claims court, falsely asserting we had a verbal agreement. Fortunately, I documented everything, and the judge dismissed the case. Years later, he resurfaced and sent me a disturbing message through Facebook filled with personal attacks, prompting me to finally share this experience. At the time, I didn't have the energy to speak up. I do now. After writing an honest review on Yelp, a man claiming to be his "friend, who happens to be a lawyer," began calling me at work, emailing my personal and work emails. I consider this behavior to be harassing, and I want no further contact. If you are considering working with this contractor, I strongly urge you to proceed with caution. This review is based entirely on my personal experience and supported by court records, insurance documentation, and extensive written communication.

That's saying a lot because my family moved into a brand new build back in 2017, so we have had many, many people come through for projects. What made my experience with Gerald so great was absolutely everything that matters. He was always on time, always responsive, always a perfectionist, and always pleasant (no matter how early in the morning or late in the evening he was working). I am known by those close to me as an extreme perfectionist. Gerald is the one person who absolutely never let me down with his work (although it could be more accurately described as art). I'm the type of person who if I see one thing that looks off, it will eat at me literally every time I pass through that room. Gerald installed tile and baseboards both inside and outside of my house and after walking through those areas countless times, I still have yet to see anything that doesn't look absolutely perfect. Aside from being an absolute master of his craft, Gerald is incredibly generous with his time. He treats every project as if the house he's working on is the house that his family comes home to everyday. For example, while I was doing a walk through with him after everything was wrapping up, I was ready to sign everything off and thank him for a job well done. Well, during the walk through, Gerald pointed out a couple of things that were bothering him and he vowed to come back the next day to fix them even though I didn't even notice anything was off. So, if I'm an extreme perfectionist, then I guess Gerald is in a class all by himself. Even after making those extremely detail oriented fixes, Gerald came back to patch things up on his own time and also to clean up the mess that some other installers left on their job. Specifically, they chipped a few of the baseboards that he installed and straight up took an entire corner piece off the wall. The look of horror on his face when he saw the damage they did to his perfectly installed baseboards said it all. The man looked like someone absolutely ripped his soul out. It really spoke to how seriously he takes his jobs and how much pride he takes in his work. I really wish this level of pride and passion were more prevalent in all people when it comes to their chosen professions. Overall, I could go on and on with reasons why you should go with this business and not even think twice. However, I will choose to end the review now and simply trust that my experience helped you in making your own decision. We work really hard to pay for our homes, so it's important that those we select to work on it, work equally hard.

We scheduled it for a couple weeks later and he was very punctual both days he was here and did a fabulous job! (He started at 9am and 8am). I called and spoke to a young man that agreed the projects I inquired about is what they do. He stated that his manager was out of the office and she would call me with in one hour. No call for the entire day. The next day I called and received a recording. I left a message stating that I had called the day before and I wanted the estimate. I waited one week being generous with the time and still no return call. Not even to say we might be too busy, we don't give a damn, nothing. So if you choose to use them, have your back up numbers ready. There is a good chance they just don't have the manpower to do the work. I find their customer service to be in the worst form.
