My husband and I waited about 20 minutes just to order food on a Monday afternoon. I was unfamiliar with Lubbock's "no dog even on the patio" rule until the day I ate here. I had my dog on my hip (literally) while I placed my order and then had a seat outside. (None of the counter employees informed me we couldn't dine outside with a dog.) Waitress brings our chips and informs me my dog wasn't allowed so we told her to please just change our order to "to go". We then waited over an hour for our food. When the manager finally brought us our food, it was literally cold because it had been sitting the entire time we were waiting. The Manager gave us a quick "yeah, sorry about that" and bolted. Poor customer service. Won't be coming here again. And as I side note, I can't believe how un-pet-friendly Lubbock is--what is being accomplished with this ordinance? I have always liked Torchy's, but in the past year, the quality of the food seems to have declined and is inconsistent from visit to visit. We ate there twice in the past two weeks. The first visit, we had an Independent and a Trailer Park, along with an order of queso. The tacos and queso were all great - served hot/warm with all the included veggies and sauces. We visited again two days ago and got The Hipster and the Trailer Park Hillbilly Style, both off the "secret" menu. The Hipster, panko-covered ahi tuna, came out lukewarm with a skimpy amount of chiles, bacon, and cotija cheese. The queso was also lukewarm and had a lot less cotija than typically included. And the restaurant was far less crowded that day. The acoustics in the restaurant are terrible - so loud you can barely hear your dining partners. We dine outside whenever possible because of that. Hope they work on their consistency, because the recipes are great. read more

I took a friend here because he was visiting Lubbock, we were hungry and I had heard of the tacos here. We walked in and it was full of students, as it is close to Texas Tech, and a few of the local business patrons from the surrounding area. I'm a margarita fan so I ordered a drink and a few of the tacos. I was disappointed with the size of the drink when it came to the table but after I drank it, it was well worth the price. The tacos were great. The barbacoa was a bit bland, I grew up in a Hispanic household so I had expected more flavor, but my beef taco was amazing and the cilantro and limes were fresh. I'm not one to eat out at "Mexican" Restaurants because i'm not into frozen or canned foods when I can make it at home, but Torchey's was great and recommended is you want a fast, friendly place to eat. They also accommodate larger groups as well. I would recommend this establishment to anyone I know. I am taking my parents here over the 4th weekend this year! read more

I've been to many different Torchy's locations, and this location is the only one I've been extremely disappointed by. I started by ordering a dirty sanchez taco (from the breakfast menu). The lady behind the counter was very rude, pointed to the breakfast section, and said "we only serve those in the morning, it's lunchtime now" to me with a disgusted face wondering how I had the audacity to order a breakfast taco for lunch. It was my impression from all the previous locations that I could order a breakfast taco any time of day. When I went to go order a different taco, I realized they only have about half of a normal Torchy's menu, leaving me with a very limited number of options. I got the food after quite a while, and the food itself was good. However, two tacos and one drink resulted in $12-13. Take your money somewhere else instead of wasting it on this sad representation of a Torchy's. read more

I live right next to Torchy's, and decided to go there for the first time last week. On my first visit, the store was very busy, and there was a line to the door. As I waited in line, I couldn't help but notice that the menu had interesting names for all of the tacos, as well as an assortment of ingredients and customization options to take your tacos to a whole new level. I ordered two of the "Trailor Park" tacos, and a 3 piece order of their desert "Nookies". After waiting about 8-10 minutes, my friends and I received our food. As soon as I took my first bite of fried chicken, cheese, lettuce and green chile; all covered in their poblano-ranch, I knew that Torchy's was onto something with their experimental taco ingredients. After devouring my tacos and enjoying the fried cookie-dough balls that were sprinkled with powdered sugar, I made my way home with a full stomach and a smile on my face. This is the worst bar service I've ever had. I wait for 15 min at the bar for the bartender to take my order with other folks coming up and getting service. My cousin comes up to ask me why the wait and I tell him I'm walking over to the other side of the bar and this worthless bartender will come ask him before she'll ever acknowledge me. So I give my cousin my order, walk to the other side of the bar and sure enough she does just that. "I told you so!!!!!" Is all I get out as my cousin starts laughing. My wife and I decided to eat here at Torchy's Tacos. Its about 2:15 when we entered. Not a bad place, music is just a tad bit loud though. It wasn't very busy but sounds like it is because everyone is talking loudly so that the person sitting right across from them can hear what's being said. Anyways, I think they are a little overpriced. I ordered one brisket taco. My wife ordered one barbarcoa taco, rice and beans. We also ordered chips and queso. Total was $31.07. Brisket had a good smokey flavor and my wife said the barbarcoa was really bland. But, there's no fat on it. She said the rice was hard and not good at all but because she paid for it, she was going to eat it. Beans were good. All in all, I don't think I'd come here again unless some friends invited us,but that's just because I would like to hang out with them rather than eat here. I would probably give another star if they lowered the price. read more

My favorites are the chips & Queso, the Democrat, the Crossroads, & the Brushfire, but I like many of the others as well. The only downside is that's there's always a line. The place has potential, but in my two visits there, the potential has not been realized. Initially, I dined in and had a salmon taco (Mr. Orange) and an ahi tuna taco (Mr.Pink). The "Mr. Orange" was overcooked, but still edible. The "Mr. Pink" on the other hand was much less like Steve Buscemi and much more like Harvey Keitel as had absolutely no "pink" in it whatsoever it was grilled to the consistency of beef jerky. Feeling magnanimous, I ventured another visit, this time for take-out breakfast tacos. I had read on a different online restaurant review website that someone complained about being served raw, still-crunchy potatoes. Presuming that the management of Torchy's reads their reviews and also presuming wildly that the raw potato situation had been rectified, I ordered a bean and potato and an egg and potato burrito. The potatoes were not exactly raw, but probably only about a "2" on a scale from one to ten with ten representing a potato cooked to perfect doneness. Ok, the potatoes were pretty much raw and crunchy. I ate the bean and potato, but after one bite of the potato and egg, I was done and I chucked it. The menu is fantastic, on paper, the concept is great, theoretically, but the execution is entirely lacking, at least is has been upon my two visits there. I want to like this place--I hope they get their "stuff" together soon because I don't know how many more times I can stomach a bad taco before I give up on them forever. read more
