Torchy's, you did not disappoint. We showed up with the whole kit and caboodle for our cousin's wedding weekend...we were able to push a few tables together and all make it work. We started with the green chile queso and chips. I could have eaten just this. Super creamy, just a hint of spicy chile at the end, and some surprise guac with cilantro. Literally would come back just for the queso itself. A few people in our group had the margaritas. Patron is their house tequila. What?! Um thank you, I'll have three. The republican (sausage, pico, cheese, and ranch) was a favorite taco by the men at the table. I enjoyed the shrimp taco with pickled onions and the sauce that came with it. No one at the table liked he corn tortillas. They fell apart quite easily...and just didn't taste right. The pork taco was also pretty dry. Bottom line: we will be back. Eh not so much. I loved eating at the Dallas location near SMU, the food was so good. But the Tyler store needs some work. Our food was sort of warm, but not hot (like fresh tacos should be). Cold eggs on a taco are never a good thing. Service wasn't all that great either, although there was an awesome busboy that smiled often and asked us how we enjoyed our visit. Love this place. They have signature tacos every month which is fun to try new things. You can order the tacos anyway you could possibly imagine. Get it "trashy" and switch your sauce on anything to queso. Street corn is legit. Try a margarita and you won't be disappointed. They pack a big punch in a small serving. Being back in Texas for 2 weeks I have already eaten here twice. As it normally goes the taco's were very good and the queso is outstanding. The level of service has improved from our first visit, as it normally does when new places work out the kinks. The only downside was this Torchy's does not have WIFI for customers who are travelling or need to work remotely from the road. Very slow service. Waited 20 minutes to order than another 20-30 for our food. Also wanted to order the Holiday gift card but according to the manager the free bottle of hot sauce ended on Christmas. Rating system: 5 stars - Must try. You're really missing out if you don't. I'm either a regular here, repeat patron, or would be if it wasn't cost or distance prohibitive 4 stars - Highly recommended, but may have minor things that keep me from being a regular or from giving a higher rating 3 stars - Good most of the time but not great. Will only eat here if I have a particular craving, or am unable to eat at my 4 or 5 star choices 2 stars - Do not really like it but will only eat here if I have to (eating group overruled my veto) 1 star - Avoid. Save your money, time, and stomach The tacos here are solid. Been here multiple times. So why only a 3 star rating? Well they are good but not great. I typically order online and pick up for lunch at work. While I appreciate the fresh ingredients and appreciate their humble beginnings as a food truck (I LOVE food trucks!), I just have a problem with Tex-Mex aka Americanized Mexican food in general. These fancied up tacos really have so much going on with toppings and sauces, that they really take away from what makes a good street taco good. Street tacos are good because they are simple but yet full of flavor from some well cooked meat. The meat is the star of a good taco and really you could just eat the meat alone, but the rest of the ingredients (onion, cilantro, lime, and hot salsa) just accentuate the meat flavors. If you want a great taco, then check out the local Mexican-owned taco shops in North Tyler. There are a lot of good taco shops in Tyler but they are hole in the wall so I can see why a place like Torchy's is more appealing. But there is a reason why when Mexicans want tacos, they go to a real Mexican shop... if Tex-Mex is still your thing, then you'll probably like Torchy's. Like I said, I do eat here occasionally, but it is mainly because I'm too pressed for time to head out to my usual taco spots (one day I'll write some more reviews on the ones I've been to). If I can make one recommendation, then I'd say drain the liquid out of the green chile pork. The tacos are always soggy because of how much liquid is retained. Another suggestion is to actually make it like carnitas like the description says, instead of just slow-cooked shredded pork sitting in its juice. Fry it up in some lard. You'll get deeper flavor and it will go even better with the green chile. read more

Today was my first time at Torchy's. I had the Trailer Park Trashed Out, a Chicken Fajita taco, and the corn. Pretty good! I loved the drink choices. All made with pure cane sugar. An employee helped me figure out what they all were. Overall, good tacos. Nothing to write home about but will go back again and try some other tacos. read more

We tried Torchy's for the first time yesterday and we will not be returning. The first reason is that all three of us who ate their food had alarmingly painful diarrhea this morning. We're a family that eats Chipotle regularly, Ghengis Grill regularly, and it's been a long time since I had food that triggered stunning digestive pyrotechnics like Torchy's just did. If you don't want to be yelling at/be yelled at by other house members who need to violently defile the bathroom while you're busy doing the same, don't go to Torchy's. At nearly 40 bucks for 9 tacos between 3 people we expected both more food and better food. Their flour tortillas might as well have been picked up off the shelf at Walmart, their corn tortillas fall apart more than you'd expect even for corn tortillas. Their meats were all either bland or just kinda salty, with them seeming to expect the little sauces they give out to kinda carry the taco. To be fair, their poblano ranch kicks ass. That was the only thing worth paying for in our entire order last night though. Tacos are mostly meat so they can remain small, they seem to have like a 3 to 1 meat to other toppings ratio when they could have made the tacos like 50% bigger and added other toppings (like more veggies or something) and had a decent taco at still a fairly expensive price. But this isn't the kind of place that puts the work into a taco required to give you a variety of toppings. No, this is a place where they dump a solid hunk of relatively forgettable meat and sprinkle on some cheese and cilantro and then hand you a sauce and kick you out the door. Oh and the republican is a Hot Dog. Like, it says "jalapeno sausage" and I expected like BBQ sausage, no it's like a jalapeno hot dog reminiscent of the big kolaches they sell at most donut shops for half the price. The tacos are worth it nice portion size for the money. Service needs some work but I believe it just the way it's set up to operate you don't get the typical server coming to your table asking you if you need anything you have to flag or hunt them down. I get that Torchy's is an Austin landmark, but this ain't Austin. Nice place, completely remodeled from the old place so it's nice inside. Full and fast service as well as happy hours specials. Friendly bartenders don't match the uncomfortable bar stools for certain. The food was not that good at all. Meat was dry, corn tortillas were dry, and everything had WAY too many onions. Plus $4 tacos just doesn't warrant eating here often - especially when most places during the week offer half off appetizers & other taco spots are cheaper. Yes yes, ... but the customer service is awful. We've only been once, but walked in the door around mid afternoon. There was a bartender, two active employees on the floor and a couple of employees dining. Having never been there we had no idea it was a 'seat yourself' restaurant. You can't see the order and pay counter from the door because it's blocked by a wall. The employees all noticed us and ignored us like we were invisible. So I sear the family, have to go search for a high chair for my one year old and still never acknowledged by the staff. I make my way to the order counter and even jokingly said 'this is our first time here, so we're trying to figure out how it all works'..... and she just stared at me. I order our food and there was never a thank you, an eff you, nothing... just dead silence. So I ask, well do you call our number or what? She finally speaks and says hang your number, they will bring it to you. I ordered the burrito with rice and beans for my 7 year old so he could share the rice and beans with the baby... I even mentioned this while ordering, and it come out with no rice or beans... so I asked the server if it should have rice and beans or die it just come in the burrito... she says 'I don't know' and walked off. It only took once for us to be treated like dirt, we will not return or recommend this place. I guess they don't realize that in the few short year that building has been here it's gone through 5 restaurants... they will be gone soon. read more

Had shrimp and a Ahi Tuna Taco, very disappointing, couldn't taste the seafood, way to busy to let the taste you pay for come through.

The chips were so salty I literally spit them out and the queso is entirely too spicy to enjoy in my opinion; there were large chunks of jalapeno (if you're used to ordering queso from other Mexican restaurants--you know--that velvety, creamy, heavenly queso dip with just the perfect amount of heat), be prepared to be extremely disappointed, as their queso is runny, watered down, and swimming with super hot jalapeños. I ordered the fried avocado and I literally got 3 small slivers of avo with some cheese on it. What a let down. I really don't know what all the hype is about or why anyone even eats at this place. Nice new place in tyler. Was able to get in without a line and was very pleased. I got 2 tacos. 1 was brush fire and other was fried avocado. They were great. I would recommend the queso as well. It was amazing. Servers do not wear normal server clothing that matches.... so it is hard to know who works there to ask for help. They serve weird fountain sodas. Amazing place with amazing Tex-Mex food! I have driven by it so many times throughout the past year, but this is the first time I've ever been. Plenty of parking spaces, and plenty of tables. It's infrastructure reminds me of Grub Burger Bar, but with Tex-Mex food instead of burgers & shakes. It also has a bar area in the middle. Restrooms were well-maintained, & had 2 stalls (one of which was the wheelchair-access stall, that also had a Koala-Kare diaper changing table). The menu has several vegetarian-friendly items, designated by a green "V" next to them. I had the Fried Avocado Taco, with a half-order of chips & queso. They even have some desserts, like some different varieties of brownies. I had a seasonal special brownie, with some pumpkin spice & dried cranberries mixed into it. I also got a fountain drink, & theirs are their own special brand, made with real cane sugar (& fair trade). The staff was friendly & helpful, one girl who took my order recommended mixing the fountain drinks & creating cocktails, like mixing their drink that tastes like Dr Pepper (forgot its technical name) with the vanilla cream drink. It was yummy! The total price was in the $11-12 range. Also, they have napkin dispensers at the individual tables, since I needed plenty (sinus congestion issues). There are also forks near the fountain drinks (which I wished I had discovered sooner). I definitely hope to return! read more
