Torchy's is a taco chain that started out in the Austin area. Tyler hipsters will inform you they liked Torchy's before it was cool/mainstream in ETX. You order at a counter, unless you are a bar person like me. I believe in cutting out the middle man that way. The tacos are good, but you can do better at your favorite local taqueria. The flour tortillas are straight out of a plastic bag. That being said, they do have some creative choices going on. Kick up the spice with some diablo sauce if you are feeling bold. The bar has decent TV's for sports as well as an average draft selection. The bartenders have been friendly. read more

Torchy's is always good - I use the one on Lamar and also the one in Tyler TX and all I can say is they got this!

So we dropped by Torchys Tacos and had a snack. I had the Brushfire taco with Jerk Chicken and the hotest Habenero sauce. My son had a chicken fajita taco. (There is a large menu.) Our Tacos came with three corn tortillas. We both thought they were pretty good. The soda machine has Maine Root soda made with cane sugar. My son said it was good. The habenero sauce is tasty but not super hot. The green sauce was a smoked jalepeno treat. If you like smoked peppers you will dig this. The building is nicely appointed with a walk up menu and order area then seat yourself. There is a nice sports bar with big screens and football. The other side is a regular dining area. It was clean and quiet. Nice staff and quick service. Price was about 10 bucks plus 2 for a tip. I think its a bit high on price but the food is good. I say give her a spin. This is our go to! The Queso is AHHHMAZING! The crossroads has brisket so good that even this non-BBQ enthusiast thinks is wonderful. But definitely try the Trailerpark and get it trashy! read more

It's a good place to get tacos. They are a little pricey for just tacos but they are good. Good place to go for tacos and beer.

Fuzzy's rips this overrated and overpriced place to shreds. Or Rowdy. Or Rusty. Taco Bueno and Taco Bell are much better and about 20 times less expensive. Hell, Dairy Queen tacos are better than Torchys. If I wanted a chicken fried steak I would go to roadhouse, or Daniel Boones, or Cotton Patch, or Cheddars...who the crap wants a chicken fried steak wrapped in a tortilla? I cannot express the level of complication of this menu. Want a taco? No, we don't serve tacos. But you can have a vinegar braised onion injected brisket strip slathered in BBQ sauce and cream gravy, topped with a pancake and grape jelly. I still don't know what the hell I ordered, but it was about $15 for a couple of tacos and some guacamole. The chips and guacamole were good, but I would never go back to this hipster hangout for a taco. It cannot be emphasized enough how overrated and ridiculously priced this place is. I expect they'll go out of business when people figure out that the hype is unsubstantiated. This fad will pass. read more

Worst Torchy's experience. Went to place a to-go order for lunch. 20 mins just to place my order. Cashiers taking phone orders before serving those standing in front of them. Management should know they are busy and designate someone (the bar) to deal with the phone in orders. Going on an additional 15 mins for my order..... read more

This is the best guacamole. I first had Torchy's in Houston. And it tasted the same. I got the guacamole and the shrimp tacos my fav. This one was empty whereas the ones in Houston are always packed. People don't know what they are missing. read more

Don't be fooled this is not a restaurant. It is a fast food joint. That being said they have off brand sodas but charge coke prices ha-ha. When we ordered our tacos the order taker told us some of the ingredients will be missing because we are out of stuff but still full price. Weird place weird service. Great food, very rude staff. I've been eating at Torchy's for years, in Austin. I was very excited when they came to Tyler. Took my family up there two Sundays ago. We walked up to the cashier to place our order and the manager was having a "pow-wow" with the two girls that take orders, up front. They completely ignored us. We stood there for about 3 whole minutes, before they decided to end their little meeting and take our order. The girl was very dry, unfriendly, and short with us. I was thinking about getting the brisket taco and asked if they had BBQ sauce. She looked at me like she was disgusted. It was so blatant, that I couldn't help but asking, "Does that sound gross to you?" She goes, "Yeah, this is a Mexican restaurant." I said, "well, you serve brisket!" I was astounded. We all have different tastes and many people like to have BBQ sauce on their brisket. Call me crazy. Another staff member overheard and apologized on "rudy's" behalf. Well, then I saw "rudy" whispering to another girl who worked there and she ended up bringing our food out. She basically came out and tossed it on our table and said "hey, here you go." Very dry, short, and rude. My whole family looked at each other, as if "what is going on here?" They obviously have a management problem. It starts from the top. When people walk up to order, you should stop whatever you're doing and take their order or at a minimum, acknowledge them and say, "we'll be right with you." read more

I love Torchy's! Their queso is some of the best I've had. My husband and I enjoy sitting at the bar and the weekend drink specials on mimosas and bloody marys. I am always anxious to see what the taco of month is, but it's hard to pass up the trailer park trashy. The breakfast tacos are very good, too! read more

What a turn-off! Anyone under the age of 18 should not read the menu. Every item on the menu has a curse word describing it. A Mexican food place that doesn't make nachos? The soft drinks are some off brand- --no Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc. They are weird names with a weird taste. Certainly won't be returning and will let others know that it is obviously not a Christian environment using language like that. read more

If you want high end tacos, this is the place to go. I was pleasantly surprised to see this Austin restaurant opening in Tyler and I was happy. My husband and I are here while house hunting with our realtor. I've had torchys before but our realtor and husband had not. I did try the corn for the first time and they were good. I would suggest you get that as an app. I've tried various tacos and they are all good, so you won't be disappointed. We came when they were newly opened and the wait was long, but that is to be expected. We got the cookie bites (forgot their name) and they were good as usual. We are big fans of Torchy's, we have a location near our home in Houston. However, the Tyler, TX location needs to have their kitchen staff re-trained in the art of proper CORN tortilla heating. Our tacos were served in luke warm to cold corn tortillas, cold tortillas crumble in your hands. So, our meal consisted of eating the contents of our tacos WITH A FORK. :/ read more

Came here to get some tacos and was not impressed the burrito had 4 pieces of chicken and the rest was beans. Just squishy and unsatisfying. My wife got three tacos. The barbacoa was inedible it was slimy and we left it on the table. The pork tasted old and didn't finish that. She ate one taco that was the trailer park. So horrible I would not recommend this place. The only upside was the drinks were very strong. They need to be for the bad food quality. read more

I've been to Torchy's Tacos before in Dallas/Ft worth and absolutely LOVED the food. The food at the Tyler location was good as well but the service was horrible. Waited 45 minutes inside for a to go order and the only 2 employees I spoke to while I was in there were both pretty rude. read more

Hours of operation are from 7 am to 10 pm according to there website. I get there at 7pm and there are a few cars in the parking lot. I go in and am told by a not so friendly employee that their system is currently rebooting and it will be about 20 minutes before they can serve me. What the heck does "the system is currently rebooting," mean. If your open until 10 pm I should be able to get food when I walk in shouldn't I. If you can't serve food during a certain time then your hours need to reflect that, not say you are open until 10. Customer lost for good. read more

Tacos are on point and they've got a big, nice bar that will be selling soon. That location has been a quagmire for years and I think it has finally found the tenant that can hold the corner. Great place for tacos in Tyler. The queso is really good and so are all the drinks. Had sweet tea by accident today but I'm thankful that happened. Because it was good. I had a beef fajita taco and a tailgate special taco. Ate both of them and liked both of them a lot. read more

Big portions for your money. We had never been before so ordering was a little over whelming. Ended up with 2 breakfasts tacos and a fajita taco. We were both very satisfied and was able to take extras home. The facility could use some maintaining and upgrades, but will for sure be back. read more

Found a hair in our queso! The waiter was kind enough to give us new queso but it was just gross! The staff needs to be wearing some hair nets back there! The tacos were delicious but served on warm tortillas! Come on torchy's at least put them on a cast iron skillet and warm them up right!!! Decided to take my girls to dinner after an exhaustive and rainy day spent at UT Tyler. Counter staff was friendly, but not overly helpful in explaining the menu OR getting the order right when we did order. The child's menu offers a quesadilla which is one half of a small tortilla cut in 2 triangles. We asked an employee for the sliced avocado she was supposed to receive as well and he basically said I'd have to go through the line again and reorder. BUT IT WAS PART OF THE INITIAL MEAL WE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR!!!! He then just walked away. No avocado slice ever to be seen. And no apologies from a single soul that the order was messed up. The tacos were served cold. The chips and queso had chips that looked to be the ones found at the bottom of the bag. You know the ones. Small in size. No dipping function whatsoever. The tacos were so-so. Not sure what the hype is all about. We had four tacos and two drinks. $35. Way too pricey for mediocre food and no service when you get your food. Their soft drinks were weird. Why have such weird choices and not give us what we want? Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, etc. No win here. Doesn't surprise me. Tyler itself has been a bit of a disappointment in the customer service area. Overall good. I've eaten in once and took take-out once. The eat-in experience was better. They're still extremely busy (as is the norm for a new place in Tyler). We've had 5 of their taco varieties- all were uniformly good, as was the queso. Serving size was acceptable, service was okay, price is a little high. We'll be back again as they settle down to see how they mature. read more
