Running late and really hungry upon leaving an appointment I quickly went to help to see what restaurants with good reviews were in walking distance and Tori Japan was one that caught my eye. Upon walking in I was greeted and asked if I had any questions. The restaurant did not have many dine in people but there were a a bit of drivers waiting for delivery orders. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with shrimp and white rice with steamed vegetables. It was cooked pretty quickly and I did like that I could see what was being done to the food before it was packed. It was very clean and the food did not take long to be made! I'll def be back next time I'm in the area and want something quickly. Great customer service!

Wasn't great. Didn't compare to sarku Japan - it was just okay. Wouldn't go back due to the chicken being a little chewy.

Extremely fresh fish with generous portions in a casual, underground space…read more I think this is a reasonably priced establishment for the level of fish (phenomenal) and service (reasonable and attentive, but not like a fancier sit down restaurant) that you get. I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!

It was adequately busy but still had seats open. The lunch menu is very affordable! If you can, I'd highly recommend going for lunch instead of dinner. Service was really quick! Received my meal in like 5-7 mins after ordering. Fish was super fresh and I really liked the different textures in the Hoseki Don. I also added in negitoro. They gave me a big clump of it! The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!

Definitely check out Wa Shin for a special celebration, but make sure you book in advance when the reservations come out because they are a hot ticket! We loved every course. They start out with some appetizers and move onto raw fish and finish with some hand rolls and dessert. They can easily accommodate diary free with sorbet for dessert (that was not just boring sorbet). The appetizers were unique and flavorful, and the fish were unique and fresh. We honestly loved every bite. We did get one sake pairing as well and really enjoyed that. They described the flavor profiles perfectly and the quality of the sake was excellent. The chef was also really kind. He noticed someone in our group was not eating much at the very end due to getting full and he offered to use less/no rice to offer a lighter option. At the end of the dinner they also have buy options of unique things to try, or a seconds of some of the other courses. Depending on the time of year they will have different offerings, but we really enjoyed the uniqueness of this. Wa Shin is amazing and we really loved our meal!

Everything I've had in Seaport has been…read moregrossly overpriced and mediocre in taste, par for the course for the neighborhood, and Mai, located right outside the Alamo, was a very pleasant, unexpected exception. We popped in here for a post-movie snack. Even though we came at a pretty inconvenient time for the staff (right before last call and half an hour before closing for lunch), our waitress was super sweet and checked in on us when we were done to see what our favorite roll was. The food came out very quickly, maybe because of the off-hour. We got the seaweed salad (not bad, very cucumber heavy); and an assortment of handrolls (toro, spicy blue crab, spicy scallop, and California lobster roll). Everything about each roll was sublime, from the delicate crispy nori, the slightly above room temperature rice, and the generous cuts of seafood laid on top. My favorite was the toro with caviar. You almost don't need to dip any of these in the accompanying soy sauce, though they do provide that, along with ginger and wasabi. Extensive drink menu too. Loved the offer of a complimentary Lactaid to go with the matchatini that includes cheese foam - this place knows some of their customers suffer from dairy! Dinner has a few more options, though lunch offers slightly discounted sets of three handrolls. There's a description on the back of the menu for how to eat these. I'd love to try their sister restaurant, Matsunori. Parking is tough for this area: if you can swing dinner and a movie, that might be the best deal, as Alamo offers validated parking for I believe up to four hours.

Mai took the heart and feel of a traditional Izakaya and elevated it in a way that maintained the essence while delivering a bit more. We each ordered 3 handrolls and shared 2 apps which felt like enough food to be satisfied but not stuffed. I ordered the apple salmon, spicy tuna, and miso butter cod - while all 3 were delicious, I found the apple salmon to be the most unique with a nice blend of sweet from the apples and savory from the salmon and spicy mayo. The miso cod was cooked extremely well making it my second favorite. The spicy tuna was good but felt very much like a typical spicy tuna roll. For apps, we ordered the wagyu tartare which felt unique from the usual beef tartare on menus. The toasted bun had a slight sweetness to it with a abundant helping of shaved parmesan cheese. It almost felt like the wagyu was hidden between the bread and cheese which I thought made for a great bite of food, however, if youre looking for more of the wagyu only then this might not hit as well well. The wagyu fries were super crispy and thin making it easy to breeze through. Our server was friendly enough and gave recommendations when asked. I did notice some tables getting more attention than others but personally I wasnt bothered as much by this. When an incorrect dish was delivered to us, they were quick to get us the correct dish, which I appreciated. Overall I would come back here and try more items on the menu.
