It was a smoking hot day out which was basically perfect weather. Rented a solo kayak and did the 15 mins lesson - although I have kayak'd before - I could have just watched YouTube for what they explained to us - there were 5 other soloists besides me. I drove to this location and I had to pull over and look up where to go as I am not familiar with the location - there was parking on site for free - I think maybe 20 cars can fit, and another larger parking lot 3 mins away. 3 porto potties on site, and I did have to use one. It is Covid times and there was sanitizer available and everyone was masked up. The employees were all very nice and helpful. They sanitized the kayaks that we were using and also helped launch us into the water - they dragged the kayaks for us to the shore, or at least they dragged mine and other people that I saw. It was a pretty good 2 hour paddle that could have gone longer but my butt hurt so I cut it short. A few boaters would go by so you would have to ride the wake. Good for families, newbies, and if you just want something to do alone or with others. They do warn you not to go past the second bridge if you're not seasoned or else you'll end of right in the lake. Ha! It was good times. I do recommend to try something new.

    Handy location.

There's nothing better than finding a hidden gem below a subway station with the trains rumbling overhead. Toronto Adventures is a big city canoe and kayak rental and training outfit with a small town feel. They even tell you where to park for free. Just mosey on past Old Mill snaking your way around the corner into the valley and you'll see the racks of canoes and kayaks there. The larger canoe has three seats and plenty of room to pack your stuff yet still light enough that two people can carry it without much trouble. So lose your footwear and go canoeing! Lots of fun exploring the Humber River by boat and after you can still go shopping on the way home or jump on the subway looking for more adventure.

I couldn't believe I've lived in Toronto all my adult life and have never seen the marshes or the lilly pads of the humber river.

For comparison, this class was mostly SUP focused and no yoga (except a couple downward dogs), where as Toronto Island SUP incoroprated a 30 mins. yoga session. Supgirlz does offer yoga and pilates classes on the board, but if it's your first time with them, you have to book the intro class (90 mins.). The location at Kew Balmy Beach is perfect! You are accessible by transit, but still feel miles away from downtown. The vibe is really peaceful and I lucked out on the day I went as the waters were calm. Meet at the actual address (it's a house on the corner of Hubbard and Maclean). That's where you will have your belongings stored safely, meet up with the group, etc. A couple people were wandering on the beach looking for us -- it can be a bit confusing! Janna was the instructor. She gave clear instructions and oriented us to the boards before going on the water. We had a brief lesson, learning the basics. Then we had an opportunity to pose for some group and individual photos (which they prompty sent to us by email). Then there was about 30 mins. at the end to paddle on your own. They have a variety of boards - hard, foam, inflatable. All in all, this was a really fun activity to do with friends. Nothing says summer like SUP! They even gave us Lara bars at the end of class as a little treat:) Notes: - There are no washrooms at Supgirlz (you would need to use the public ones on the beach, or walk up to Queen St.). - Despite the name, all classes are co-ed!! - Booking is easily done via MindBodyApp - weekend classes fill up, so best to book your board in advance

With the summer ending, it was the perfect time to try it out. I booked our Friday evening lesson online with no issues. The lesson is based out of Kew Balmy Beach; we were instructed to meet by a park bench and our instructor showed up early to bring out the boards from a place nearby and to set up. The first-timer lesson started with basic verbal instruction on dry land, then we proceeded onto the water. After the quick on-water lesson, we had free time to play around on our own. They also have sup yoga, socials, etc. Overall, a good place to try SUPing.

After reaching out to them through e-mail, I was told my request for info about lessons was forwarded to a representative from WSUP, a partner company supposedly based somewhere on Toronto Island. Well, I did not hear back after one week so went looking elsewhere. See my 5 star review for Toronto Island SUP. I think the people at Paddleboard Addict need to update their website so that people are not wasting their time.

I had searched initially on Yelp but options came up short (following this review that will no longer be an issue). I connected with business owner Paul and chatted about prices, location, times and dates (the usual). Paul was very laid back and yet totally professional letting me know that he was flexible and totally willing to accommodate us on our day of choice. Making himself readily available by phone or email we confirmed a date and time and only needed to pay for one person in advance to secure the time slot, which I did via e-mail money transfer (oh the joys and conveniences of internet). When the day came, admittedly we were a touch (45 minutes) tardy, however we made sure to let Paul know we'd be running behind. When we finally arrived Paul was waiting for us happy to have us there. We signed some waivers and paid the rest of our balance owing and walked towards the close by community of floating houses (apparently something no longer allowed to be built in Ontario). Paul was a gracious host and professional guide, teaching us the basics of SUP (Stand-up Paddleboard) in minutes and getting us on our way quick. He took us around the marina and into the open water area teaching us about the ecosystem around us, the clarity of the water, and various wildlife present (didn't get to see the Karp or Muskeye he bragged about - probably a good thing). The entire experience was informative, fun, great exercise and a real joy all the way around! We were also fortunate enough that there weren't other bookings that day so Paul ended up taking us out for another 20-30 minutes over the hour we paid for! We all agreed that this was a great experience and would DEFINITELY come back to try! I HIGHLY recommend you give this place a try or at the very least try your hand at SUP! PS - Lake Ontario is ICE COLD - I didn't fall in BUT daaayyummmmm that ISH is C-O-L-D!

Upon arrival, it may seem like it's difficult to find parking, but once you drive past the shop, there is a lot of parking behind. We walked into the shop, and within seconds, staff greeted us. It was great and easy to know everything as there was a giant menu of all the services and water activities they provided. We asked for 2 single kayaks, and they told us there were plenty! 1 single kayak is $25/4 hours, which is an amazing price. This also includes a lifejacket and paddle. You honestly can't find this deal in Toronto. You get charged a mandatory damage deposit of $200 per kayak first, and once you return from your trip, you get your deposit back and pay the $25. The staff were very nice and the lake was great! The kayaks and paddles were super sturdy and well maintained. We went around 2pm and there were a decent amount of people, but not too packed. Later in the afternoon is when we saw it started getting pretty busy. There was a hiccup in payments at first, where the first card machine didn't work, so I used a second one. After my trip, I checked my bank and they charged me twice. They were super nice and accommodating and refunded me back the amount. I will definitely be back and rent with them again!!!
