What a great experience! Like being on cottage lake in the middle of the city. Close to Old Mill subway station, the launch area is literally directly underneath the bridge the subway goes over. I've been twice this summer - early June in the evening and mid July for 9 AM kayaking. I enjoyed the early morning peace and tranquillity. We were guided by a long line of geese and also saw two egrets along the way. Very peaceful and they make it so easy as they drag the kayaks down to the launch beach. Getting in and especially out of the kayak is challenging. It would be great to have a pole or chair to grab onto to pull yourself up and out. But otherwise, a fabulous not expensive trip away from the hustle and bustle of city life. read more

I've been here twice this summer and have used a single and a tandem kayak. Both are fun! The kayaks are very stable and everyone is given a life jacket to wear. The first time, I asked about adjusting the footrests and was told not to worry about it. One footrest was too high and the other too low leading to a slightly uncomfortable experience. The next time, the staff member took the time to show us how to adjust the footrests. Although I had to drag the kayak to the water myself, it's not that heavy. The staff helped launch us and later helped us out so we didn't get our feet wet. They dealt with getting the kayak out of the water. We didn't get a lesson on how to paddle. If you're a beginner, I recommend watching a short YouTube video before you go. They did show us a large map of the Humber River and give us tips on where to stay to the left or right to avoid getting stuck in the shallow section of the river. They also offer canoes for 2 or 3 people and stand up paddleboards to rent. I loved seeing the beautiful nature along the Humber River. We saw great white egrets, blue herons, turkey vultures, ducks and other birds. We explored two marshes and still had time to go just past the Humber Bay Arch Bridge to see the Toronto skyline. The fee includes 2 hours of paddle time but they weren't too fussed if you come back a little late. There's free on-site parking (amazing for Toronto) and portable toilets. read more

It was a smoking hot day out which was basically perfect weather. Rented a solo kayak and did the 15 mins lesson - although I have kayak'd before - I could have just watched YouTube for what they explained to us - there were 5 other soloists besides me. I drove to this location and I had to pull over and look up where to go as I am not familiar with the location - there was parking on site for free - I think maybe 20 cars can fit, and another larger parking lot 3 mins away. 3 porto potties on site, and I did have to use one. It is Covid times and there was sanitizer available and everyone was masked up. The employees were all very nice and helpful. They sanitized the kayaks that we were using and also helped launch us into the water - they dragged the kayaks for us to the shore, or at least they dragged mine and other people that I saw. It was a pretty good 2 hour paddle that could have gone longer but my butt hurt so I cut it short. A few boaters would go by so you would have to ride the wake. Good for families, newbies, and if you just want something to do alone or with others. They do warn you not to go past the second bridge if you're not seasoned or else you'll end of right in the lake. Ha! It was good times. I do recommend to try something new. read more

There's nothing better than finding a hidden gem below a subway station with the trains rumbling overhead. Toronto Adventures is a big city canoe and kayak rental and training outfit with a small town feel. They even tell you where to park for free. Just mosey on past Old Mill snaking your way around the corner into the valley and you'll see the racks of canoes and kayaks there. The larger canoe has three seats and plenty of room to pack your stuff yet still light enough that two people can carry it without much trouble. So lose your footwear and go canoeing! Lots of fun exploring the Humber River by boat and after you can still go shopping on the way home or jump on the subway looking for more adventure. read more

I can't recommend this place. I rented a kayak one Sunday because I live close by and wanted to check out the Humber. Unfortunately, I got basically no assistance setting up my boat or getting it to the water. I thought I just couldn't figure out how to adjust the foot pedals (I kayak a lot, but different boats have different mechanisms), but it turned out the pedal was actually broken. When I pointed it out when I returned the kayak, the staff person just shrugged and said "yeah, some people kick them too hard" - then returned the boat to where it could be used by later renters without looking at it or trying to fix it. I don't think this poor equipment maintenance was an isolated incident, either. There was a group getting into a canoe at the put-in point, and one of the seats broke when the canoeist sat on it. The Humber itself is a great place to paddle. I saw lots of wildlife, and it was relatively peaceful. But I'd recommend getting equipment elsewhere. read more

I did drive yourself to location dog sledding package with Toronto Adventures earlier this year. The actual dog sledding part was fun but I found the organization to be pretty poor. Since they organize a bus drop off option, it seems like everyone is congregated to arrive at a certain time and then divided into groups to take turns to dog sled. So there is a lot of time spent waiting around. Snowshoeing was added on as a free activity to do while waiting or post dog sledding. Additionally, I wasn't too fond of how the same dogs were used for multiple runs (definitely over 2-3 hours straight). I don't know from experience whether this is how it is like for all dog sled companies, but if I were to do this activity again I would prefer to go with a company that pays more attention to the dogs. read more

I had a blast dog sledding! The guides were very knowledgeable and professional. Even though you only pay for dog sledding, they offer an unlimited number of snowshoeing sessions whilst you wait, which was almost as fun as the sledding! If you prefer to wait, there's a campfire complete with hot soup, tea & coffee and all the ingredients to make s'mores Highly recommended for a great day out! read more

If you want a fun but relaxing time kayaking and getting to see a bit of the city and a lot of trees, this is the place for you. Matteas was our guide and he gave a us a nice review of the basics of kayaking, then took us on a very nice trip to the mouth of the Humber at Lake Ontario and back. It was relaxing and very enjoyable. I definitely can recommend them for safety and fun. read more

I went kayaking here. They told me that I could leave my bag at the front and that someone would always be there but they wouldn't be responsible if someone stole from it. I lost $20 of money I earned waitressing that day. If no one went near my bag then it was probably the leaders themselves. I enjoyed kayaking there, though. read more

Poor customer service, do not recommend I received 2 vouchers as a gift for the "intro to dog-sledding adventure bus day trip". We had reserved a pick up time at 9:30am. At 8:45am, on day of adventure and already en route to the York Mills pickup site, we received a short email stating, "Cancelled 9:30am Feb. 15th Dogsledding Buses won't start". After exiting the highway and pulling over, we called the company for more information but were directed to the voicemail which mentioned the office was closed, and the phone suddenly disconnected. About 10-minutes later, we received a call from Ted (manager of the company) who mentioned the cancellation. While I politely asked if it was just a bus cancellation or the entire trip, he responded condescendingly and rudely with, "If you know how to start a bus, then be my guest!" and immediately hung up. Also, he did not offer an apology for the cancellation. I trust this is not the way Toronto Adventures wishes to conduct business with their paying customers-- this being my first experience with the company, certainly my last. read more

Activity- Kayaking on the humber river What an incredible location! I couldn't believe I've lived in Toronto all my adult life and have never seen the marshes or the lilly pads of the humber river. The waters were very calm and the kayaks were in good condition. My kayak came with a cubby hole where I could store my backpack which made the whole trip easier. The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the conservation area and its history. The only recommendation I have for this place is that in the confirmation email they should include directions to the location or have a sign at the top of the stairs by the bridge as its very easy to miss if you haven't been here before. Also, for anyone (like myself) who sadly suffers from motion/sea sickness take EXTRA gravol!! I got very sea sick about an hour into the activity and had to turn back before making it to the lake ontario boundary [SAD FACE!] All in all, two thumbs up! Directions- From Old Mill subway station you have to take a left out the main doors and then take another left as soon as you hit bloor street. Then take the stairs on the side of the bridge and look for the trailer on the far end of the parking lot. read more

This is a disgrace of a business. The hundreds of dogs living on property that would be taking you sledding at Toronto Adventures are kept in inhumane, despicable, filthy conditions. Rusty old paint cans for water that seemed to have accumulated solely over months of melted snow and rain. Wet, moldy straw inside of broken plastic barrels and soggy, broken wood dog houses are the dogs only shelter from the elements. Injured dogs with visible past scars and recent, untreated injuries are chained with 1 meter long steel chains tied to a stake. The dogs have no where to go and have to urinate and defecate within steps of the entry to their "home." Some dogs are anxiously pacing in circles and some have visible tumors. All dogs look malnourished with dull, dirty fur and protruding rib cages. I will never support this business and will make sure no one I know ever will. They should be shut down and the owners should be pressed with criminal charges. read more

There is potential here. However I simply cannot recommend this to any one who is new or unfamiliar with the equipment they are renting. Staff is not helpful. Feels like a last minute afterthought of a company. You can find better. Toronto Adventures you can do Better. I'll be back at some point as I truly believe Toronto Adventures can improve. read more

TERRIBLE ! Upon our arrival to the dog sledding adventures, we were told while waiting to go check out the dogs. To the left was a small area with around 12-15 dogs that we were excited to see and interact with. Most of them seemed happy enough with the exception of a few that seemed hesitant and even some that refused to come out of their poorly constructed barrel huts. We sat for 10 minutes with one dog encouraging it to come out, but it was shaking and was not very trusting. As we stood up to go back to our group we noticed a whole other section of dogs through a pathway further along the trail and we decided to go check it out. We thought there were only 5 more dogs, but as we approached closer and the longer we stayed the more dogs came out from their huts and we quickly realized there were at least 50 more dogs. The second dog we approached was inside her hut and had a large gash in her right eye that was full of dry blood and she could barely keep it open. The sight of this dog and other dogs who could barely even walk brought both of us to tears. Not one dog looked happy to be there. You could actually see the sadness in their eyes. Each dog wore a heavy collar that was much too tight and chained to an object in the center of their tiny enclosure with many dog's chains bound up where they couldn't even move. The only place they could go to the washroom was right where they stood. There was poop and urine all over their circle and under their feet. After speaking with the owner we learned that the dogs stay here day and night even in the freezing cold weather conditions some of the mixed breeds cleary could not withstand as they were shaking. We noticed that none of the dogs had water, which we realized was because it was so cold it would just freeze, but we worried that these dogs were not being properly fed or hydrated, especially with the fact that they are being forced to pull people on sleds, We no longer felt comfortable supporting what was happening as we had this ongoing feeling of helplessness and guilt for the conditions these dogs have to live in. It just doesn't seem right and we hope something is done about it, and that others who visit have the same compassion and thoughts as we did. No animal should have to live like that. read more
