Not once did they make me feel like I was asking too many questions or being difficult. They were patient, kind, and genuinely helpful when I was already mentally exhausted. Shout out to the employees in Room 100, where you file paperwork. They guided me step by step and made sure I understood what I needed to do instead of just pointing and rushing me along. That alone made a huge difference. Of course no one wants to be in court, but despite feeling overwhelmed, I was able to get everything done within three days, and that's saying a lot. Also, free parking, which honestly takes a huge layer of stress off right away. Not an experience anyone looks forward to, but the staff made it manageable and human. When a jury summons arrives, I always grumble at the inconvenient timing and proceed to list 14 ways to improve the process. I'm never asked for my opinion, but I'm ready if the opportunity ever presents itself. This recent jury service experience happened smack in the middle of an ugly tech crash that affected numerous businesses, including airlines and some 9-1-1 services. The L.A. Superior Court system was affected too, which caused online and phone jury services to fail, and thus, there was no way to obtain jury reporting instructions on the Friday prior to my service beginning. On Sunday, partial phone service was running my group was asked to report at 8am the next morning. In all my years of jury duty, I have never reported to court that early. 10am is usually the call, so this was unusual. So here I am. 750am. Sitting in the jury assembly room with maybe 50 other responsible humans. Waiting for some sign of life to address us. 8am sharp, and that life appeared. The brief announcement included a tech outage update (there was none, computers and phones were still down) and a plea for our patience while the jury reps wait for smoke signals or carrier pigeon messages with next steps. At 1130am, yes 3.5 hours later, we were dismissed for lunch with explicit instructions to return at 130pm, at which time we were to take the elevator to the 4th floor for jury selection. After that, it was a regular course of events to whittle down from 60 to about 30. I was in the group of 30. I eventually made it to the official jury, and naturally, I volunteered to take on the role of foreperson. We deliberated and reached a verdict in about 3 hours. My jury group was stupendous; a great group of people who followed jury instructions to the "t". In other words, we rocked it! Let this be PR for jury service: Serving on a jury is a vital civic duty that empowers us to uphold justice and protect the rights of our community. I have been to the courthouse on several occasions. Each time I have had a good experience with the employees and judges. Recently, I needed a name change and the gentleman in the help center, cashier area was extremely helpful. He went above and beyond. Secondly, shout out to judicial assistant Sarah Hwang and asst P Aranda for helping me out when I mistakenly missed my appointment time, (shows up late on a Friday!) Also, huge appreciation to the honorable David K. Reinert who was accommodating and gracious in his manner in helping me out when I was totally at fault. 1. The entrance and security check is not very helpful or welcoming whatsoever. I've been there a few times this past month or so and each time the "rules" change and not according to the sign when you walk up. I may have taken it a little personal but honestly the job isn't that difficult, and to be kind is easy. (When you see a human being walking up a little disheveled please be kind and considerate.) 2. In the clerks office where you file/pick up paperwork is very unpleasant and too sharp. (Most of the time people that are going in to a courthouse it's very very difficult circumstances) To have a cold and rude person is not helpful at all. Clarification is key too! I was told an entirely different time to be able to file certain documents opposed to when their windows close. 3. To have a little more information presented at the entrance to the clerks would be helpful (like the restraining order packets). --there was one female sheriff one of the times I was there recently who saw me and actually gave me a hug and told me it was going to be ok.-- Years ago when I was here for my son's adoption it was much cleaner and the staff was so helpful, thoughtful and easy to understand. The parking lot is a mess. I can't pick allllll the trash. Maybe the security at the door can clean the parking g lot when they're just sitting there and it's not busy just a thought. This review is solely for the personnel in room #100. I have a Judgement from 1993 that I have renewed every ten years to try and collect it. I now finally have the defendant where I want him and in the process, I have to serve persons to appear and in general I have been directed all over the place people thinking that I'm wishing on a pipe dream that will never come to life. My experience with Carlos and Merna are very nice, full of information and care about their work. I'm thankful that both did their jobs and maybe even went that extra step to make sure my paperwork was signed by the proper people to move my case a long. I do believe however if you treat people with respect they too will do the same. A special thank you to Merna for making sure my paperwork was signed, as the Judge that was supposed to sign it was retiring and Merna took that extra step to try and find a judge to get it signed for me and following up to make sure it was done and called me to let me know it was done. I served one day for jury duty here and it was pretty painless. Reporting time wasn't until 10:15 a.m., lunch was from 12:00-1:30 p.m., and I was dismissed by 4:00 p.m. I got lucky and didn't have to go inside the courtroom at all. Parking was easy in the big open lot. The security line moved fast. The jury assembly room was spacious although I spent my time outside in the courtyard the entire time. The workers were all nice. The bathrooms were clean and never crowded. There are many lunch or shopping options in the nearby area. This was my first time assigned to this courthouse and I wouldn't mind being assigned here again. I'm used to being assigned to the LAX Courthouse, but this courthouse is a pleasant alternative. read more

Went to go and resolve a traffic ticket. The folks who work here are so tired and burned out. I get it, I can't even imagine the things they have to deal with. I just wish they wouldn't take it out on the people who have to go to them for help. I kept getting eye rolls and an irritated tone of voice whenever I asked a question. And they were legitimate questions that needed to be answered so I could take care of ticket appropriately. The person in front of me in line got the same treatment, and I ended up answering one of their questions more thoroughly than the person working there. Super disappointing experience. read more

Reviewing a court house? What in the world? Well, this is a review on the good side. It's called Jury Duty and you just might get called up one day to serve. If you do, hope that it's the Torrance Courthouse. This has to be the best courthouse in the South Bay. For one, there is lots and lots of parking so that's a plus. Two, the jury room is pretty nice as far as jury rooms go. The staff is nice and friendly. This location is much better than the Long Beach location and Compton? Forget about it. They have computers you can use, I think 5 or 6. They have free Wi Fi so bring your laptop if you like. They have a nice patio area where you can sit and eat or read. And then they have a nice cafeteria located in the next building where you can hang out until they call. Three TVs and lots of magazines. read more

Well this courthouse is close by me so when i have to report to Jury Duty i'm happy to come here. It's a small courthouse compared to others the staff here are pretty friendly. One downside is not everything is housed under this building for traffic stuff you have to walk around to the back side of the building to a smaller building thats not connected to the main one and that one is always busy from my past experiences. This is amazing. Torrance courthouse made it so you make an appointment before you come in. First off, parking is plenty. Second, the guards at the entrance are so helpful that they guide you to the right place without any attitudes. Third, I stood in line for an appointment and the ladies there asked me what I needed. I told them and they got it done within a few minutes. It was such a smooth and pleasant transaction. I'd rather come to Torrance to get any documents than Norwalk or downtown LA. read more

[Review #185] I've been reporting for jury duty at the Torrance Courthouse for the past 15 years. Parking is ample, & close to the entrance if you get there early. Friendly officers at the main entrance security checkpoint, then it's a short walk to the jury room located in a bungalow near the back of the courthouse. In years past, I recall some very funny emcees that make the process more enjoyable. My most memorable was the previous (2014) call for jury duty... the officer who emceed was a regular comedian/jokester; it made me wish I was selected because he would have been in the same court/trial. Reporting for service nowadays is easy, you can check-in/register either by phone or on the internet. Today is my lucky day to report in for possible jury duty. I was running late because I had to drive around looking for an open space. Luckily, there was no line at the security checkpoint so I barely skated by. :-O There weren't as many jurors reporting for service, typically the room is almost at max capacity. The ladies working the room were friendly, quick, & efficient; a major plus in any courthouse. The judge was particular about the trial & ordered a juror prescreening a couple of hours later. I could possibly be excused but my reasoning was thin (my company only paid 10 days, & the trial is estimated to be 3 weeks or more) so I waited it out. I basically spent my time waiting to be called, & was excused from service a couple of hours later. ;-) Free wifi & plenty of outlets available to charge your electronic device(s). The bookcase by the entrance is loaded with current & old magazines as well as some fictional reading. The A/C was up & running, keeping the room moderately cool. They're going to TRY to give you the run around here. Don't let them. Follow my advice & avoid it. This is specific information about Fix-It tickets. You have to make an appointment first. Call 310-787-3699. Look at the picture I posted of the door sign. There's steps you have to follow. If you have any other TICKETS written in the City of Torrance, or need to appear in court - there are specific steps you must do to navigate & resolve your problem - as of June 24, 2021. If you have other business - call the courthouse number below. This post is about how to deal with Fix-It tickets. Call your local police department to verify they'll sign off on it. I'm not sure if Torrance even does it anymore. It didn't seem like they wanted to do much of anything but cause problems, not solve them. So, I had the police department in my city sign off. Some of the stations don't offer this service anymore. The highway patrol office next to the 110 freeway does, but I think they charge a service fee. Check before you go. Some require that you make an appointment in advance. Then, BEFORE YOU GO to Torrance, call the Traffic Division 310-787-3699. YOU MUST GET AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE YOU GO. Do NOT waste your time standing in the long line at the entrance of the big Courthouse at 825 Maple - because they'll turn you away at the door. That's not the right building. Go around the south side of the courthouse and down a little ways to the cluster of small buildings on the left-hand side....to the 2nd small bungalow that says TRAFFIC DIVISION. You must wear a mask. Don't even enter the building - if you didn't call because they won't help you if you didn't make an appointment. I had to leave and call them. Don't let it happen to you. Just beat them at their own game.... MAKE an APPOINTMENT! Yes, indeed. All of this is meant to be really annoying and ridiculous & make us mad. Take my advice and you'll avoid getting run around with this idiocy. The fine for fix-it tickets is now $25. Cash, Check or Money Order. I don't think they take credit cards. The back of my ticket only gives these 3 payment options. I'm assuming they want to make sure that WE pay the fine, not rack up a credit card and then not pay the bill. The easiest way to do this is to just send it in. Make sure to keep a copy of both sides of the ticket because you have to send the original to: Torrance Courthouse, 825 Maple Ave., Torrance, CA 90503 ATTN: TRAFFIC DIVISION. Make sure to write the citation # in the memo area of the check or money order. I'd also send it certified mail, return receipt. Keep in mind, you can't pay the fees early - you must wait until your citation number has been input into the 'system' and that takes about a month from the date the ticket was written. You can verify that at www.lacourt.org before you send it. But, knowing what I know now - I'd just wait a month & mail it in. That's the best option. Don't volunteer for this one if you can avoid it. Just mail it.....or take a chill pill. The water's deep and c~o~l~d, people. If you have other business at the Torrance Courthouse - CALL THEM BEFORE YOU GO - to find out what the procedures are to handle your situation. Honestly, the clerk I encountered today was the most unprofessional and rude. All I wanted to do was make copies from an old file that was located in their basement for years. She scolded about giving her the incorrect case number. Then she found it and took 6 min taking it apart, as if I could not read. Then she hands us back and asks me a million questions about which doc I'm looking for. She would not leave me alone. I couldn't even focus on the docs. Then she says I can come back on Friday or Monday. Assuming that I don't have a career of my own. Just because a woman is young and beautiful does not mean she does not have a career. Due to her negative vibes and rude b&&tch attitude, I ended up requesting copies of the wrong docs. She got her wish. I'll be back on Friday. Will not make it to my office but it's okay ... This is such a nice court house. It has civil and criminal offices in helping you with your case matters if any issues you have or need to get resolved. I seen a ton of people entering multiple times a day for something so simple to the most toughest cases. Here in this court house people come to do a ton of divorces, file for restraining orders, and a few other things. What people don't know that traffic division is behind the main courthouse. Probation is as well located behind the main courthouse as it's on the side of the traffic building. Now depending upon your traffic citation is upon if it's something as an infraction or a misdemeanor. If it has a circle on the letter " I " then you need to go to the traffic building behind the main courthouse. If you have a circle on the letter "M" then you have to enter the main building as that means you have a big case of a traffic matter on your record and you need to get it resolved or you could lose your license with so much more. The deputies of this location are very nice in treating you well. The Securitas Security officers treats you very well with a welcome and provide you with plenty of details. The white shirts who are in the front are a bit ego and jealous which don't do their job right and lie about the count of the meter as they add about 50 more than the actual total of people who entered the building for the day of each day as they do it to say they looked busy when it wasn't. Plus they lie on the count on the items they so called took away like such item's as lighters, vapes knives, as if it was only 3 for the day, the white shirt adds more to the count to make it say like 10 to 15 in total. I'm just stating true facts. If their Sargent would keep an close eye on this, then they would send that white shirt to more training or relocate them to another courthouse. Overall this is such a nice courthouse as in the 5th floor you have a such great view of the city. If you have a traffic manner, your cases are done with ease as the deputy there provides excellent quality service details of how your case is in order to know if you have a chance of winning or what you can do to reduce the cost of your ticket of violation. That deputy is truly 1 of the nicest people who shows true value of what a Sheriff really means when it comes to helping you out with the communication of customer service with so much more like the true meaning of the Sheriff logo words of " to protect and serve " . However, having been to many courthouses, this one is pretty good. First, and foremost, there is plenty of parking and, it is free! That is uncommon for many courthouses. Second, it is not usually too crowded, and you can get business done relatively quickly. The secret here is to be early, because crowds will show up for some of the more common things that need to get done (i.e., traffic). The clerk by the name of Irma P was VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL during my whole custody battle. She filed all my paperwork the way she wanted because she didn't know what to do . I came to file my divorce and was terrified because of the rating this courthouse had, but I literally was in and out of the in 20-25 mins. I parked in the front of the building, I'm not sure if your aloud to do that but nothing happened and nothing was said lol There were literally only 2 people ahead of me and then the clerk who helped me was very kind energetic and helpful! I was even missing something small and she had me grab it off the wall real quick and fill it out while she was filing my case. She was very helpful and fast ! This courthouse is like THEE best! I know so because I have been to many - I get speeding tickets often and I always contest my tickets(yes, I am one of those people). I will say that the court complex is a bit confusing because there are several buildings/bungalows that make up the Torrance Courthouse but they aren't all connected OR within reasonable walking distance from each other. In any case, the employees were very friendly and helpful. Also, there weren't millions of people there (11am) so I didn't have to wait a hour just to see the cashier. I am there to complain over a women Name Debbie. B. she works for the Courthouse in Criminal and uses her badge in private. I am living in Hermosa Beach and try to reach someone from the Human resources but the problem is all separate department and to get some one is Difficult. I don't like to see that the woman after all coming close to me. And try to immediate me. She goes to the neighborhood and even she got me all through this nonsense she doesn't stop. I just want my peace but she is aggressive in her manner to hurt me deeply through this guy. What talked nonsense the whole time and turns people bad. Had some jury duty recently, and I would advise that you pack your lunch or go out on your lunch break as the foodservice they used to have has been turned into a convenience store, repleat with grab n go crap, bad coffee, candy and other stuff you probably should not be eating. Maybe if they had something nice in there, people might actually look forward to being jurors occasionally. I would like to express my gratitude to Lanelle in the Clerk's Office of the Traffic Division. Earlier today, I called to verify that my traffic ticket was cleared with the Court as well as with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) since I paid my fine in full and I completed my Traffic School course and was informed that this Completion Certificate was sent to the Court. Just to be safe, I called the Court to verify that my ticket had cleared with the Court. I spoke with Lanelle and she was so courteous, professional, patient, and helpful. She told me the ticket had cleared with the Court. When I asked her about and if I should call to verify, she volunteered to check for me. She discovered it had not and there was an error. She told me she would send an email, have the record with the DMV corrected and call me back. In about 5 minutes, I received a call from Lanelle who informed me that the error (which was not due to anything the court did) was corrected and everything was taken care of. The time, care, and dedication of Lanelle should not go unnoticed, especially in such a tumultuous time in our country and the world. This is my third trip here at the courthouse to get an extension on a restraining order. Unfortunately, the Sheriff's have not been able to serve the perpetrator. Everyone here has been very helpful from the clerks to the sheriff's, but especially the bailiff. He has helped me in the whole process providing advice. Torrance itself is a beautiful city but this courthouse is the opposite. I had jury duty here and this place is just too old and dirty. The cafeteria is open. (I read other people's review saying that it's closed). There isn't much selection at all. I wanted something vegetarian for lunch but all the sandwiches has meat. There's really nothing but snacks for vegetarians here. The room where jurors have to wait is so small and I'm not sure but I feel like there isn't A/C. My favorite courthouse is the one in Compton and I love that one. It's modern and their room is super big! However, this place has free wifi so it's not that bad. This is the closest location from my house. Don't come to this courthouse if you don't live in this city unless you want to go to the mall afterwards. read more

By far the worst courthouse I've ever been to. Every time I wind up here I am stuck here for at least 5 to 6 hours. They make you get there at 8:30 and then they don't even start until 10 then they make it so your like the last one. And they let all these people go before you that aren't even at court. Jury duty. Keeping in mind that I'm reviewing only the courthouse itself......not bad. The building appears clean, even the bathrooms. Plenty of easy free parking in adjacent lots. Security checks at the front entrance moved quickly & efficiently. A/C was adequate except for one stifling hot corridor on an upper floor. Comfy chairs in the jury assembly room (and magazines only 2-3 mos. old - I've experienced worse in doctor waiting rooms). Nice little outdoor patio connected to the assembly room (a place to warm up in summer if you're freezing in the assembly room, as I was, even with a sweater). Cafeteria was open - friendly attendant. I recommend the chicken-flavored noodle soup that she will nuke for you, quite tasty & filling, if not nutritious. I didn't encounter any unfriendly employees during the two days I was at the courthouse. The elevators worked, all three. Shout-out to 2 nice police officers with whom I had a conversation about cars at the beginning of the first day, in the parking lot (before I wore a prospective juror badge, it should be noted...cuz a juror should not talk to anyone on the premises 'bout nothin'). When I asked if I was in the correct parking place for jury duty, they actually thanked ME for showing up for service. Best of all, this courthouse is a very short drive from home for me. When you're keeping your fingers crossed that you get called to serve on a jury and your company doesn't pay for jury service well then that's a whole other review lol Free and fast WiFi with a seat near an outlet (ample outlets available mind you) I become an immediate fan. Our Jury Grand Master for the day kept us entertained. I thought it was cool and a good sign when a Judge came down for a Q&A sesh. People were asking him all sorts of questions. One dude even asked how much his salary was. He answered which was even cooler of him. The only lame thing was that the AC in the jury room was broken and I forgot to bring my Yelp fan. My jury duty experience was actually pleasant. Make sure you do the online orientation a few weeks before you're expected to report. It saves you a few hours of time. The jury duty room is to the left after the metal detectors. Go left all the way through the cafeteria and you'll run right into it. The woman who collected our forms was hilarious and she made it a fun process. Things like "9-1-1 is your emergency contact, but feel free to write down a relative's name and number!" The jury room attendant kept in contact with the court to see when they needed jurors, so we got nearly 3 hours for lunch instead of one and a half! I appreciate that they didn't hold us in that room! I got picked for a trial and our court assistant was Karen. She was awesome! She was so friendly and informative. It was nice to work with her. The only downside is that there aren't many restaurants nearby, so make use of your hour and a half and explore the area. Breaks are 12-1:30 and 3-3:15, with court usually ending at 4:30. Tips: 1. The court has WiFi, so bring your laptop, tablet, etc. 2. Outlets are in high demand, so bring a power strip and you'll make friends in an instant! 3. Bring a bottle of water. You can't always run to the cafeteria, and drinks without screw-top lids aren't allowed in the courtroom whether you plan to drink it then or not. 4.Bring mints if you normally chew gum. After having to serve Jury Duty @ the Compton Courthouse, Torrance seems like stepping into heaven: * WiFi. I repeat, Wi-fucking-Fi. * Food & drink allowed. * You can wait to be called inside the Jury Room, or you can stroll to the outdoor patio. You can even make your way to the cafeteria. The Jury Services staff will make sure to visit all 3 of these areas if an announcement needs to be made. * If you're an idiot and forgot to pack time wasters, you're allowed to "go to your car" for a couple of minutes. Make your way to the library and pick up some books. As much as I hate having to go to Jury Duty, there's something about serving your civic duty. Besides, it's like some sort of great social experiment that happens on a daily basis. When else are you put into a room with 150 people and asked to sit there for 8 hours? As much as I was trying to ignore everyone with my blaring music in my headphones and my hearty book, I couldn't help but be engrossed in the subtle drama of the rest of the jurors. The looks of "you think your job is more important than mine?" when someone brought out their laptop to get some work done. The gestures people would get when some freaky old guy in the corner positioned his book in just the perfect angle so that everyone could see the cover of the book he was reading was, "Anal Sex for Dummies." Or even the looks that we all gave the 18 year old punk ass kid that wouldn't stop singing along to 90's rap songs when he cut us off in his $90k car. TRAFFIC DIVISION WINDOW CUSTOMER SERVICE I GIVE A NEGATIVE STAR however the option is not there--Don't waste your time coming in close at 4:30 you'll be treated like a second-class citizen without a green card. God forbid people have jobs and other priorities. Not only were they rude don't try asking any questions you will be met with eye rolling at its FINEST. Shawnna and Debbie I understand we all want to go home most of us single parents don't have time to come back and wait inline the next day only to be met with the same attitude. I definitely shouldn't have to suggest "can't you just click on the citation number and tell me what the violation is" 15 minutes prior to arriving to the courthouse I was at the dealer buying a car the finance manager came back to me and said " your CDL is on hold". In complete surprised I just went to court a couple months back and knew that I was in the clear, less than two weeks prior I just filed a police report with the Manhattan Beach Police Department the police said you have no problems. immediately I left the dealer and ran the Torrance Courthouse which is why I came in at the 4:20 hour hoping they can give me any information or answers about the court date I just appeared at in March. Every question I asked was answered back with a" I don't know you'll have to go to DMV." My guess because there are more than one ticket on my file it was going to take longer than 10 minutes to look up the information. If you don't like public service then maybe you shouldn't work in it. Because your attitude is everything in public service I would rate this woman a trillion stars if i could. Which brings me to this Dynamic woman I want to say thank you supervisor Carol for your complete non judgemental understanding on LIFE. Furthermore, for taking the time to go out of your way to give me the information I needed when both these lazy women above had the same ability however didn't. Not only did Carol share her car buying nightmare with me she felt my pain. she didn't think twice and jumped into action she took less time to find the same information that the other two wouldn't . The question was" which ticket is holding my CDL" not only did she answer it she told me how to fix it. I'm very grateful she took the time out of her PERSONAL time to help me AFTER HOURS when the above two couldn't help me within hours. In addition Carol gave me was extremely valuable information to look up online which will help my situation. I thank you implicitly for that and I would never have known that information existed because I'm pretty sure the other two have just rushed me along Carol THANK YOU A BILLION For recognizing the urgency I was in and going above and beyond anything I could have ever expected as supervisor and it should be recognized. I am a magnet for freaks and criminals. Walking into the courthouse... man: "hey. your dress. it's my favorite color" me: "thanks." man: "Yea. My motorcycle is the same color" me: "really? that's nice" man: "I have a picture. Want to see?" me: ............. I have been here multiple times for multiple things including jury duty and filing papers with the court. It's small and run down. The judges seem fair and not bitter. Now the attorneys are another story. What a bunch of slime balls walking the halls. If you ever considered going to law school and thought you might not make it through all the classes and passing the bar... Spend a day here. If those D-bags can do it you can. :) read more

I've seen so many high reviews here, and for a courthouse of all places! After my recent jury duty experience, it all makes sense now. I cruised in around 9am, sat around for a few hours and was released to go home before noon! Meanwhile, I sat back, enjoyed a bit of the outdoor patio and also the indoor lounge whilst listening to music and tindering like a madman. Jk on the tindering part. Too many old peeps staring over my shoulders while in the waiting lounge. It is worth mentioning that the staff is extremely friendly! This is rare for government employees IMO. Also, there is Free Wi-Fi!! Here are some tips on my end: -don't freak out if you're running a few minutes late -bring a charger for your iDevice -bring a snack and some H20 Overall, a solid courthouse in terms of Civic duties.
