First bite, the rice reminded me of my grandmother's. That's a real good start. I got a steak/chorizo burrito that was delicious, full of tender meat chunks, and lovely flavors. My partner wanted a barbacoa burrito, which was not on the menu, but they made it for her anyway with no charge. We did agree that my burrito was better. She fell in love when she saw the salsa bar. They have at least 6 different salsa that you can self serve for your order. An excellent touch if I ever saw one. The food came out quick and hot, they have cool chairs and a generally nice open space to eat in. The service was friendly and prompt. Pretty much all anyone can ask of a restaurant. A year ago I would have gave them 5 stars. It was one of my top favorite restaurants to frequent. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is friendly. We've always had good service here. The only thing I will eat here now are the deep fried shrimp tacos and the fish tacos on a corn shell. The boom boom shrimp burrito used to be a family favorite until they changed the queso. Now the queso is very thin, almost watery. It doesn't have a cheese flavor to it at all. It's to bad too, sometimes restaurants make changes and they ruin things. Unfortunately they ruined the boom boom shrimp burrito for us. I hope they'll change it back to the queso they used to have. read more

Reading the reviews i thought i was going to really enjoy the food here when choosing where to stop. My husband and i had the fish tacos, steak torta, and a green chicken tamal. The fish tacos were okay. The fish i believe were slightly under seasoned. When i added salsa, they got better but still subpar. My husband said the torta was drenched in mayo & the steak under seasoned. I agreed. The tamal was typical what you see now a days, a sliver of chicken wrapped in too much dough. It was so dry it was almost crunchy at the ends. I got one good bit of flavor where i had flavorful green salsa and yummy moist chicken. I'm not sure if it was because i had to carry out or not, but regardless it was okay.. I'm not sure if i would stop back in. read more

2 for 2 on Mexican food, Michigan! As a gal from Los Angeles, I'm impressed! For 6 tacos + guac + chips, I spent about $17 - which is a lot more than I'm used to from taco trucks and Mexican restaurants in LA - BUT this pricing seems to be in-line with local places here. We stopped by Torti's for a late sunday lunch after a disaster in the home kitchen. I had been driving by Torti a lot and saw that it had great reviews, so it was perfect timing. We ordered: *Side of chips ($3) and guac ($1.25) - huge side of chip! It's just kind of weird that the guac size was either the tiny 1 oz or like a seeming behemoth for $6.50. Either way, it was good. *Lengua Taco: Slight upcharge on this for $2.25/taco but I thought it was tasty and very tender. *Al Pastor: INCREDIBLY well seasoned. I don't think I've had al pastor as ground meat but it was still tasty. It was hard to pick which one I liked better because they were both good! My fiance ordered 2 steak and 2 al pastor and also enjoyed them both thoroughly. Side note for tacos: you can choose a corn or flour tortillas as well as onion cilantro or cheese and lettuce as your topping. I really enjoyed the salsa bar, but it's kind of hidden because people can sit in front of the salsa bar. I didn't know until someone else got up and grabbed something from it. Y'all know this person. Seems to have a chip on his shoulder like you're an inconvenience. We stopped in to get dinner around 6:30-45 pm and this person who is normally there at lunch was clearly not feeling it tonight. Was annoyed with wife's request for no onion or tomato, next was our kid and the menu states nachos in three styles, nachos, three way nachos and deluxe nachos so he ordered nachos with ground beef. Employee raised his eyebrows and very asshattingly asked which ones there's 3? My order was pretty easy but never thanked us for our business or the tip provided even though it shouldn't have been Not once during the entire interaction did he look at anything but the screen. This is another recommended place for Mexican food. Even though I am a taco lover, I would say that they have a good variety of dishes that are good in taste and presentation. My favorite tacos here are sudadero, carnitas, and barbacoa. They taste very good and the corn tortilla is very authentic. They also have a great variety of salsas for you to try...10 in total. Ranging from the typical mild tomato sauce all the way through borracha, green, mango, chipotle and árbol (the hottest one). They also have typical Mexican desserts: flan, banana and tres leches. Nice little Mexican restaurant on Beckley road with limited seating. Kind of a hole-in-the-wall in a local strip mall. I had the pork tacos with onion and cilantro, on corn tortillas. I also had a side of beans. The tacos had good flavor and tasted as expected for traditional cooking. The beans seemed a little bland for my liking, but I'll try them again next time. Decided to try this spot for a quick date night meal - had heard that it was not bad, and Mango (our first date night choice) had closed already. We got a 2 taco combo and a burrito. I have been wanting to go here after reading some of the Yelp reviews and finally did yesterday for lunch. It's small but clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly. I had a combo plate with a steak taco and a chicken Tostada, rice and beans. I asked about chips but they don't come with the meal like most Mexican restaurants offer. The sides of chips are a big bag for $3 but I asked and if I could get a half order and he gave me a big container of them for $1.50. I have been here before and decided to bring my wife here for lunch. Its was busy during peak lunch hour. After a brief wait, we got our good. Food was delicious and very flavorful. The staff was very courteous. We expected a paper thin quesadilla like every restaurant we have had before and did not expect this "monster". It was delicious. Tried their 10 taco platter where do I start instead of steak tacos you are going to get ground beef the gentleman at the restaurant will argue with you and say that's how Mexicans eat steak. The Barbacoa tacos are void of any and all flavor even Mexicans no it should have some flavor. Ask for salsa on the side make sure it is there before you leave. Tortilla chips are not even housemaid tortilla chips if I had to guess they are the cheap ass Aldie brand. I would recommend any of the other Mexican restaurants in town including Taco Bell over this one. Stopped in here while in business in Battle Creek, and had a great meal! Overall, the food was really good, and the portions sizes were nice sized. The meat was a little drier than I like it, but that was easily remedied with salsa. I also got a burrito to go for lunch the next day, and that was great! I try something new every time I stop here! Of course, the tacos are great. You can choose to have the traditional cilantro and onions on top, or lettuce, cheese, and tomato. I really like the al pastor tacos, they had great flavor. Quesadillas here are also delicious. I add peppers and onions to my al pastor quesadilla, which has become my favorite pick here. As if there isn't enough flavor in the meat, you can choose from a bunch of salsas on the salsa bar! My favorite is the pineapple, although there are still a few I haven't tried. Driving through Battle Creek we found this small local Mexican restaurant. Coming from Arizona a few months ago we didn't have high hopes but wow was I wrong! I had the salmon tacos. The flavor of the fish and sauce were amazing and the corn tortillas were legit. Some of the best I've ever had. We also ordered a bag of chips (it was literally a "bag of chips"). They were thin and warm just like chips should be. The salsa bar there was great too. I had the mango, pineapple and sweet chili. The mango and pineapple made me tear up. Perfect score! Local place that's been around for quite sometime. It kinda blends into the plaza building it's part of so I don't think about it much. It's not usually the first place to go to when you're craving Mexican food. I'm not saying it's bad, just outta sight and outta mind. Anyway, I've been wanting to stop in and finally had a chance with my daughter. Swung through for quick lunch and tacos sounded good. A place with "taco" in the name sounded appropriate when you're craving tacos, duh! Where else would we go? Torti Burger?? They don't have the hand carved tables, chairs, and booths with Mexican scenery on them like the other 50 Mexican restaurants in town. So that's nice. But they did decorate like usual. Ugh. Place was clean, staff was polite, menu was simple, and prices were okay. Daughter got 3 hard shelled tacos and I got 3 fish tacos. Everything seemed fresh and there's a little topping bar to the side of the seating area. We grabbed a couple drinks bringing the bill to about $22. A little high for lunch but...... I can't really speak bad about anything. But both really jumped out and tickled my hot pepper either ;). Everything was just average. Fresh but whatever. Best tacos that I have ever eaten in Michigan. Grew up in Texas but been in Michigan for 20 years. Tender and tasty carne asada, flavorful shrimp taco (ate in before the pics), ten different fresh salsas to choose from. I highly recommend it! read more
