We had the best experience here on a recent Saturday night - we received the absolute BEST service! We had two waiters who were so attentive to us and just really helped us have the absolute best time! We were greeted with some super delicious chips and salsa when we were seated - the chips were warm and the salsa tasted so fresh! We ordered a pitcher of top shelf margarita - baller move! Their margaritas are so good! And a pitcher keeps your glass full for the entire meal! ;) We loved every. single. sip! We've tried many of their menu items - some of our favs are the pork tamales, the ranchero burrito (nothing just like this particular burrito at any other place in town - the CHORIZO!), arroz con pollo, and any of their tacos! :) Queso always makes it all better!! On a recent visit I tried the Chimichanga Grill and it came with TWO huge chimichangas!! So much amazing food and I always love a dish that comes with multiple proteins!! This family owned restaurant is our go-to place for Mexican food. Prices are reasonable (have jumped in the past year or so like every other restaurant we've visited) and service is top notch. Ordered via delivery service and the last two times have been progressively worse. The last one unedable. I ordered the enchilada supreme. It wasn't even cooked. The cheese and enchiladas were raw. Nothing in the dish was melted. The rice was ice cold along with the refried beans. Overall an absolutely terrible meal for a $40 delivery. Who wants cold shredded cheese wrapped in a cold tortilla when you order a cooked enchilada I couldn't even eat it and it had to be thrown away. The previous order before was fajitas and while, they were OK. I was missing half of my order. I had no tortillas no cheese that I ordered no guacamole. The delivery order was in shambles. I used to love this place and would frequent it several times a month. It was always really good inside but delivery there doesn't seem to be any attention to detail. I've lived in Kalamazoo for close to 30 years and have always been told how awesome La Pinata is. Not sure why it's taken me so long to review! They have your typical Mexican fare, which is very good. But what brought me here was the fact that they have FRIED TILAPIA!!!! Who has fried fish on the menu anymore?! This was, hands-down, one of the very BEST fried fish dinners I've had outside of my parent's house! My husband orders their hot and spicy burrito on the regular and I never knew what I wanted that would be different and interesting. A friend of mine had said she and her friend would often go there after their shift at ANOTHER restaurant just for the sole purpose of ordering their fried tilapia! Color me intrigued! It did not disappoint!! They score the fish so it's easier to eat, so don't be afraid to give it a try! Their staff is BEYOND helpful and kind! Just okay. We got DoorDash from here tonight. I was going to order a few tacos but then I saw the carne asada meal and ordered that instead. It was supposed to come with tortillas and did not. My boyfriend got the steak and cheese enchilada meal, and our friends got Steak Mexicano and also Huevos con Chorizo. Tortilla chips and salsa were included but the chips didn't have much flavor, they tasted unsalted too. You do get HUGE portions with these meals and I also enjoyed the rice and avocado that came with mine. I also got horchata which was okay but I've had better. I would try this place again but from what I've seen, the Kzoo area has a lot of Mexican restaurants from which to choose, so I might try somewhere else first. read more

I figured I'd try a sampler to get a feel for how the food was. Got the Enchiladas Supreme, this meal was suppose to be 5 different enchiladas. What I received was 2 ground beef, dried out chicken, cheese, and bean enchiladas (obviously, not a advertised). All the enchiladas tasted the same, had same texture... if I'm not mistaken, I'd say they were frozen and/or store bought. I question the "authenticity" of this place. If you're looking for something a step above Taco Bell with similar pricing, this is your place (great portion size to price ratio). If you're looking for that place to reminisce your trip to Mexico, I would avoid this place. Did not try desserts or cocktails, felt no particular need to try. 2 stars merely for speed and price; everything else was tacky or poorly executed. read more

Had an awful experience tonight eating here. Me and my friends have been coming here for a few years now and have always had great and positive service. Our server Diana was extremely rude right off the bat when we walked into the restaurant. She had an attitude the entire time; forgot our waters, drink orders, appetizers, and even messed up two of our bills overcharging us. One of my friends ordered a 12oz drink and was charged for the 22oz on the bill (almost $10 more). When we brought it to Diana's attention, she argued with us and then rolled her eyes at us so obviously before fixing the bill. Such disappointing service for such good quality food. read more

Haven't been here in years so we tried it out after a long day of holding a garage sale! Had a group of 8, 4 of which were kids. Good thing the restaurant had plenty of large tables set up, and it wasn't busy at all on a Saturday night, so we sat right away. Then we didn't see the waiter, or anyone working in the restaurant, for quite a while. So long in fact that I had to search for them a few times- one time to get toilet paper for the bathroom, and once to get some chips. It seemed like only 2 people were working the hole front of the restaurant and register. I would think there would hav even more? So off the bat I was a little disappointed, but then when the waiter finally was around he was very friendly, attentive, and fast with our drinks. The house margaritas were great! Could have used a little more salt on the rim in my opinion though. I ordered enchiladas and my husband ordered the carne asada. Kids ordered tacos and quesadillas with fries. I like that the kids menu was $4.99. So for our table of 8 all the food came out at the same time, I mean literally all stacked on his arm! Except my husband's carne asada. And it wasn't like he ran back and got it. I was already done with one enchilada when he brought it out! We found that very strange... but it tasted great! The meat was cooked perfect and had the right amount of spice. I enjoyed my enchiladas, but would probably try something else next time. Came on Cinco do Mayo and had such a good experience that even my picky boyfriend was impressed. The place was surprisingly very clean for it being such a busy day! They helped us much faster (even though they were packed) than expected and the food was great! The service was so great that we came back Monday. We originally went to Buffalo Wild Wings but left because we sat for 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us (even though multiple staff members saw us and even stood there talking). My friend and I order from them to watch the formula 1 race on Sunday. We ordered 5 individual tacos and 1 order of 3 tacos with some beans, rice and salad. It was really good, I personally only had the asada tacos and they were amazing, I will definitely come back soon. This time we ordered through DoorDash, I don't know if it was a DoorDash error, that I don't think so, or the restaurant error but my friend only received 4 out of the 5 tacos. La Pinata is good, not exceptional, but a place I'll gladly revisit. Their complimentary chips and salsa are the bomb. If I offered you one reason to come here, it would be their chips which are made in house and taste ahh-mazing. My second reason would be the friendly service. We were well taken care of here. Everything else is mediocre which is fine with me. There is plenty of booth seating (yay!) and tables for larger groups, though our table and seats were speckled with crumbs. They could up their standards for cleanliness. The food was slightly better than okay. I ordered the chorizo tacos and was happy to find they weren't too spicy. If you plan on ordering margaritas, consider sharing a larger one. My boyfriend and I shared a 28oz margarita because it was a better deal than buying two 12oz ones. To say this place was completely unremarkable is too generous. The waitstaff was adequate, but not the least bit exceptional. The chips were warm, and though the salsa was decent, it had no real flavor to stand out. I ordered the "Pick Two for $8.99," and chose a chicken chimichanga and chicken enchilada. To start, the rice was okay, but again, had nothing to make it stand out. The beans were completely flavorless. I mean, I get that there's only so much you can do with refrained beans, but this didn't even taste like beans. The chimi was somehow watery. I don't even know how that happens. Unless they boils the chicken, maybe? Yet this had the best flavor of the meal. But only if dredged through the enchilada sauce. The enchilada...again, almost no flavor. My guess is that absolutely nothing is fresh here. Otherwise, the meal would have had some flavor. Don't waste either your money or your time. read more
