I have seen some reviews that note the dryness in certain foods - I do say the chicken and chips were a little dense BUT.. the delicious horchata easily helps. This is authentic, simple, Mexican cooking. It is seasoned to simple perfection. The atmosphere is vibrant and fun. The chefs and servers work hard to create a great environment for a meal. I went there last night to meet a friend. We were seated for 50 mins. We received menus and chips with salsa but then no one ever came back. We even tried to get their attention as the wait staff walked by our table with their heads down ignoring us completely. There were people that came in after us that ate, enjoyed their meal, and left happy. But that was not our experience. We left laughing in disbelief and went to the Copper. The place is cute. Disappointed. Recently moved to Marshall from Kalamazoo and I gave all of the Mexican restaurants a try. All of them were not good. This is my second time ordering from El Tajin and it is the second time my food was picked up messy (had refried beans all over the containers) and the corn tacos were very underwhelming. My wife's chicken fajitas hardly had any chicken in them at all, $17. My tacos had hardly any toppings on them, and the rice was dry. All 3 tacos were wrapped in this small aluminum foil (small cause the tacos did not have much in them at all) and because of this they were all soggy. This meal was just under $14... for 3 tiny soggy tacos with nothing in them and dry rice with refried beans taking up 2 slots in my 3 slot to-go container. I would request a refund, but I am tired of it and just not going to order or recommend Mexican food in Marshall. read more

Since I moved back to Marshall, I probably come to El Tajin three times a month. I always get the street tacos, and El Tajin tacos never miss. The wait staff is friendly and they almost always have horchata available. El Tajin is one of the few restaurants in Marshall that serves non-pub food, and it is definitely worth a visit. Charming decor, very good food, fast service, good prices. I had 3 street tacos, on fresh corn tortillas, with small sides of rice and beans. Everything was flavorful, much better than average. The special salsa was excellent, medium spicy with some salsa verde mixed in. read more

El Tajin is a good hometown Mexican restaurant. The service is good, the waitresses always pleasant, the dining area clean and comfortable. It's still so new I haven't tried all the dishes yet. The spicing is really tasty, food served hot and fresh in ample portions for good prices. If you haven't been by there yet, you should put this place on your to do list. If you haven't been back in awhile (as in last summer when they were figuring it all out) give them another shot. You won't be disappointed. read more
