While in town visiting family and friends over the Fourth of July holiday, we met a few friends at Tortillas for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We have been to this area before on previous trips, but Tortillas was a newly opened restaurant since our last visit. We were definitely excited to give it a try! The restaurant is located in a modern development, combining housing and retail. It appears that there is a lot of development and growth to this area, and it makes sense that restaurants and other businesses are moving in. There are several other businesses and shops in the complex, and Tortillas is near the front on the left. At the time we went, it was not very crowded. We had no trouble finding a parking spot close to the entrance. The complex has private parking all around the buildings. There are several tables located outside of the restaurant, so you could dine outdoors and bring your dog. However, we sat indoors for this visit. Indoors, there are both traditional tables, booths, high tops, and bar seating. I can see this being a great place to go by yourself or with a larger group. Our group was 7 total people - four adults, and three smaller children, and we were accommodated with no issues. The people we were meeting beat us to the restaurant, so our table was ready to go upon arrival. It was not too busy at the time, so seating would have been no issue if you walked right in. The menu here is not extensive, but they do still have a variety of dishes and unique items to the restaurant. They also have a full bar, so there are many drink options to indulge in. There were appetizers, entrees, and even desserts. I also saw a sign for weekday lunch specials. Chips and salsa were complimentary, so our table enjoyed a few baskets of those before our main entrees came. We ordered the Grilled Mexican Street Corn as an appetizer also, which I really enjoyed! Anytime this is on the menu at a Mexican-type restaurant, I usually will order it. It was still on the cob, and it came with four halves. The kids at the table enjoyed an order of the Queso Blanco to accompany their chips! I personally ordered the Quesadilla Burger, as it seemed like a unique offering. It truly was sooo good! The Quesadilla "bun" was loaded with cheese and veggies, which paired so nicely with the burger. It was a great size too, and I only at half at the restaurant. It came with a side, for which I opted for the Mexican Corn. This was served off the cob, and was similar to the appetizer in taste and dress. As you might figure, I love Mexican Corn in any form, so this was great for me! The kids we were with enjoyed their entrees, so if you are looking for a good place to take kids this would be a nice spot. They also had milk for them to drink. The staff was accommodating to them as well, which is always a plus. Our service this day was wonderful! All of the food came out accurately and quickly. The waitress we had was top-notch! Her name is escaping me, but despite being pregnant she was stellar and a joy to talk to. I hope all of the staff here are as wonderful as she was to us! The prices here are fair. Some of the items I would say are a little more on the pricier side for what they are. Others, such as the Fajitas, I feel are rather cheap (comparably speaking to other places similar I have been). However, I would say the value is there. As stated, they also have lunch specials if you are looking to try it out for a few dollars less. I was extremely satisfied with my first experience trying Tortillas in Newberry! We visit the North Central Florida area at least once a year, and I would definitely dine here again on a future trip. I would recommend giving this spot a try if you are in the area, or have been thinking about stopping. read more

The birria tacos were really good! The meat was tender, not chewy, and very rich in flavor. The burrito was really good too. It's a good value overall too, with complimentary chips and salsa (very good, not too spicy), and each meal comes with 1 side. Service was a little slow, but not too bad and it was the day of the Newberry Watermelon Festival, so it was packed overall. They even offered free water for our dog. It was only $27 before tip, so great value! There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating too. The bathrooms were very clean too. The service was very friendly too. Definitely worth checking out in a small town. read more

Walked in right at 5 pm. Not busy, only 1 person on the wait staff so slight delay with seating but once seated more staff came in and things got right. They got really busy, Cinco de Mayo, chips and salsa arrived warm and fresh. Drink order taken and arrived quickly. The 2-4-1 margaritas were delicious. I ordered the fajitas trio, chicken, beef and shrimp. Wife had the El Jefe burrito. Food didn't take long at all. The fajitas were sizzling, well seasoned and delicious. The tortillas that came out with them had steamed together, so that made separating them a bit of a pain. The black beans and rice side that came with them were very flavorful. Coulda used some pico and a lime wedge with them but you can ask. Wife's burrito was amazing. Each third covered with a different sauce, enchilada, queso and salsa verada. The refried beans for the side were really good. Creamy and smoky. Wait staff attentive, prices reasonable and food great. Gave them only 4 stars so they can approve in our next visit because we will be back. read more

We've only ordered takeout from this business, but it's been wonderful each time. There hasn't been one thing that we haven't liked. We've particularly like the shredded birria beef quesadillas. Give them a try! It's a great place for Newberry! read more

Some of us thought this was a fun new place and liked the quesadilla...but you could do better for the money. Watery thin salsa, salty milky queso wasn't good. Soup tasted canned. Fast food quality with restaurant prices. No bueno. read more

As the town of Newberry continues to develop with new neighborhoods, housing developments, and indoor and outdoor activities, so does its food scene. Tortilla Tex Mex is a new restaurant in the growing commercial center just off Route 41 south of town. I went on a Saturday night with two other people and we got a table on their outside covered patio area. We got an order of the street corn chicken wings for the table, which were perfectly crispy and had a great elote sauce for dipping. I ordered for my entree the steak fries, which were french Fries topped with Carne Asada, cheddar cheese, Mexican cheese, queso, pico de gallo, and sour cream. While the portion was large and they didn't go light on the steak, the fries (which were thin, shoestring style) were soggy. Almost like they were just thawed from the freezer and then covered with the toppings. This dish would have benefited from a larger, more hearty fry. Our server was fine, prompt and attentive. Tortilla Tex Mex is a good new addition to Newberry that I hope the locals can enjoy. read more

So here's the good and bad: Full service (which I was told was not the case when they first opened.) & our Server was great, :) too. Full on site bar. Prices are mostly pretty great for what we got. Here's the not so good. Hubby's food was sent back because it wasn't hot enough. (Hey, It happens) Frozen strawberry Margarita was ok -but a little too sweet and very little alcohol. At $13.99(!?!) I'll pass. Salsa was a little too much tomato paste -but now I'm being picky. Flies outside were a bit crazy! We only sat outside cuz there were literally no people inside -but it's Monday. Overall, I will likely return. My food tasted great and server was attentive. I will avoid the crazy priced margaritas. My call drink was $6.99 -hubbies beer was $3.75. Just now had lunch there with my wife. We both regretted it. The worst "Mexican" or "Tex-Mex" we've ever had. First, we ordered the Smashed Guacamole with tortilla chips. It looked and tasted terrible. We tried adding the hot sauces they had on the table and some salt, but that only helped a little. For my meal I had the Wet Burrito with birria beef and a side of Western Rice. I had to send the burrito back because it was barely lukewarm. They made me a new one, but then I found it had no flavor. My wife's Chicken Sofrito over Western Rice was edible, but not good. Maybe they should hire some Mexicans to cook for them! I'm giving them two stars, only because of the friendly and good service, the decore, and the ambiance of the restaurant. However, we will not be eating there again. read more

Decided to try this place today. Outside seating looked nice. Inside looks like an old fashion diner. You go to the counter and order your food. Think a cheap Chipotle. We looked at the menu board and waited around for 5 minutes and no employees were visible. Prices are not cheap. Those frozen drink machines....no customers.....how often do they get dumped and cleaned? read more
