Coach Julio is super awesome, you can tell he takes great pride in what he does. Coach Julio's training is professional, motivating, meticulous yet enjoyable. My review needs context. I've have been active my entire life. Acrobat dancer crossfit competitor. In 2020 I became pregnant and did everything"right". I worked out 6 days a week for the entire pregnancy. I even beat my husband at a workout 4 days before giving birth. I even completed a workout the day I went into labor. 6 weeks postpartum I began to work out 11 times a week (with baby in tow while nursing). I was determined. By 6 months postpartum I could run 2 miles do 100 pull ups 200 push-ups and 300 squats with a 15lb weight vest on all under 1 hr. I even bested my lifts including a 325 lb deadlift and 175 lb clean and jerk. BUT I was still 35 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight. My clothes didn't fit. I was so discouraged. I didn't feel like myself. I gave up because I was so busy and nothing worked. I ate bad because I felt bad and put on 5 more pounds. Then I saw this fitness challenge on Instagram for total mma studios. It was my last Ditch effort before completely giving up on myself. I was pleasantly surprised. On a high protein diet I felt full and could be in calorie deficit, super difficult while nursing a baby. The workouts were challenging but doable. I sweat so much. The coaches were supportive and patient. I learned actual boxing techniques! I began to feel more like myself. I lost 6 pounds and 2.5% body fat in 6 weeks, almost impossible while nursing.. but I did. My husband even lost weight while eating what I meal prepped. Although I still have a journey ahead of me I've learned to love myself where I am and to stay committed to the process. If you're looking for a life style change this place is it. I highly recommend trying out their 6 week warrior program! The coaches teach you the most fundamental moves of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. They are the most welcoming and friendly coaches I've had the pleasure to meet. Coach Junior and Juliano are experts and make sure you feel right at home even if you feel you are a complete beginner. Every time you step in the gym, the energy is always upbeat and the people make you feel like you are part of a community. Classes always begin with warm-up exercises, then move onto technique drills, then you practice what you learned. I would highly recommend the six week challenge. I did the classes to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but they also offer boot camp, Muay Thai and kickboxing. I really enjoyed learning a new skill while losing weight. Loved the ambient, the coaches are very helpful and friendly staff. They will work with you and help you get to your goal. It's the most I've ever sweat in my life but it's so much fun and you become more aware and focus on your body. In the six week program they provide you with a meal plan and a goal to meet. Got my 1 free week trial of kickboxing in. I've never perspired so much in my life - seriously got what seems like 4 years of workout in just one week. Raquel is a beast - best trainer ever. She doesn't give too many breaks, which I like. Her kickboxing class starts off with a couple of rounds of warmup cardio with variations of running around the mats. She usually has her class finish 100 jumping jacks, 50 squats, and 20 pushups on our own count. We then wear our gloves & switch between different combinations of punches and kicks that she makes up (different for every class). She'll demonstrate a 3-4 times before we start, and is super helpful if she sees you struggling with the combos. In between, she'll have us do other types of cardio (squats, jumping lunges, mountain climbers, bicycles, etc.). On Fridays at 6:30pm, Raquel brings out the dummies for the kickboxing class which is an awesome stress-reliever for the end of a long week. (: The workers at the front desk are also the nicest! They'll wrap your hands up for you before each class and give you gloves. I also took a Muay Thai class with MMA fighter Ray Elbe, which was focused more on skills, rather than a cardio workout. If you're a beginner, I'd recommend taking at least one kickboxing class before taking on a muay thai lesson. read more

Great coaches and great location! I mainly attend Paulo's Kickboxing class as well as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Juliano & Adriano. My only regret is not finding this gym earlier as I grew up in Irvine. They also have a weight training area that has been super convenient for me. Parking is easy and Acai Republic is right next door so I occasionally get some post workout acai or juice. I would highly recommend you check it out and give it a try. read more

I went here because they offered a 6 week jiu jitsu challenge and I figured that this route might be a better opportunity to try jiu jitsu then the 1 day free trial that other gyms usually have, I am extremely happy I made this decision. Next, enter gym having never done kickboxing, except for Tae bo. I was greeted by Cynthia and Frankie, who are amazing! Friendly, welcoming, and family is the whole vibe at this gym!!! Cynthia and Frankie wrapped my hands for class, gave me the low down and gave me loaner gloves! First kickboxing class was with Chris! Amazing! Informative and a workout like u wouldn't believe! Next night, Tuesday, Raquel's boot camp class! Raquel is sweet and tough and whips u into shape!! Tuesday is all upper body with weights, resistance and abs her Thursday class is all lower body and her Friday kickboxing is just off the charts fun, hard work, sweat, dues, and such good jams! Raquel and Chris make u feel like u can achieve anything! even on ur first week! They all go above and beyond at this gym! I can honestly say, la fitness will not see me again! The six week challenge was a great deal! I lost 20lbs from attending 3-5 classes a week and really enjoyed how worked I was after each class. You can't tell the muscles you are using for kickboxing until the next day but it was always a good time! I suffered from a back injury back in high school sports and it went away after the 6 weeks of training. They target certain muscles each workout and I was super happy it kick started my weight loss! This place is no joke. I've always wanted to pick up a martial art but I was afraid I was too old or I wouldn't like it, or what ever other excuse I had. I came in the studio from taking the 6 week challenge. Honestly this gym is one of the most friendliest and honest gyms out there. The coaches are great and they are also technical and they don't hesitate to help if you don't get a technique down. They have space for about almost all forms of Martial arts such as kickboxing, bjj, and boxing. The staff are also really friendly and are always willing to answer any questions and don't feel like sales people shoving addons down your throat which honestly was my favorite part. I found Total MMA on the 6-week warrior challenge. I've never done Jiu Jitsu before, but I've been wanting to try a Mixed Martial Art for the longest time. In six weeks, I lost nearly 5% body fat, from 13%. The Jiu Jitsu instructors are so knowledgeable and patient. They take the time to correct your form and talk to you about mistakes that are being made. In six weeks, I've learned the basics of Jiu Jitsu. Two years as a member and counting! After a little over a year, I finally moved to the other side and started jiu jitsu here, for which they are known for. I tried jiu jitsu a few times at Gracie Barra back in 2010. I was a 3 month member and only went to class a handful of times, and I distinctly remember not liking it very much. Why? It's a very difficult sport to learn. I'm pretty athletic, and I did not catch on to it at all. Plus you need to put in a lot more hours on the mat to really "get it." The members were supportive but not enough to keep me going at a sport I didn't particularly enjoy. Fast forward 5-6 years and now you see me on the mats at Total MMA at least 3 times a week. Do I like it yet? Ask me again in 6 months, but it's no longer excruciating painful to come to the mats only to get crushed by higher belts. ALL the members here are very supportive, welcoming, and encouraging and make sure you're learning because you will come onto the mats clueless and feeling pretty lost, if not stupid. They hold you accountable too: "Where have you been? Are you coming to so and so's class tonight?" Uh...yeah, I guess I am now. No one is there to intentionally injure you, and they make sure if they roll with you, that they're going at your pace so as not to injure you. But you will get your @$$ kicked. It's a learning experience after all. The main coaches are Juliano, Adriano, and Junior, all multiple degree black belts under Brazilian Top Team. They have won many a competition and each have their own style of teaching. All are clear, meticulous, and straight to the point. They explain a move, give you counter-moves, and explain why each detail of a move is important in defending yourself or avoiding an opponent's counter-move. While I do learn from all three of them, and all are excellent coaches I particularly enjoy Junior's style as he uses a lot of real world analogies and jokes so you can remember each detailed step. If you don't understand a concept, he's very patient in showing you what it looks like. I dislike working out in the morning, but I do make a concerted effort to go to his classes for this reason. But really, all the coaches are exceptional. How exceptional? There are members that have FOLLOWED these either Juliano or Adriano from gym to gym and drive across town just to be coached by them. And by across town, I mean Whittier/Sante Fe Springs to Tustin or Rancho Santa Margarita/San Juan Capistrano to Tustin. That's a pretty damn far drive, but that's how good they are. Talk about loyalty! They have multiple classes throughout the day: M/W/F at 7 AM, 12 PM, 4 PM (No Gi), 5:30 PM, 6:30 PM (Advanced), and 7:30 PM, and Tues/Thur at 12 PM, 4 PM, 5:30 PM (No Gi), 6:30 PM (Advanced), and 7:30 PM (Women's). No excuses not to show up for those who claim to be too busy! They've even added a strength and conditioning type class for competitors on M/W/F at 10 AM. All classes are filled with belts of all levels, and members of all weights and sizes, so it really helps you with encountering different body types and styles. So if you're down to learn a new and useful skill, the first class here is free. If you need a couple more, they can accommodate to that also. Just tell them Diane V. sent you. You'll be dripping in sweat in no time. It might not be yours, but there are showers here for that here. read more

This is an amazing place to train. After relocating to Irvine, I tried out all the brazilian jiu jitsu and mma gyms in the area and Total was the best fit for me. The grappling instruction under Adriano Nasal and Juliano Prada is top notch. Both are very attentive and make sure every student gets the lesson right. Their techniques focus on simple but effective moves that translate well to sport, mma, and self defense as everything they've taught me so far has been applicable and useful. They believe in training hard and constantly push you to better yourself. Another great thing is they teach many takedowns and let the students start on the feet versus always starting on the knees.The students have a great mentality, friendly, and are always there to help you out or show you something. The number of classes they have every day is staggering and well worth the price of admission. I can really tailor my training around my work and not have to sacrifice my personal life to train. The muay thai and kickboxing classes are great as well. I suggest taking the muay thai/boxing to get your techniques down and then using the group cardio kickboxing classes to apply them and get in shape. The facility also has many bathrooms and three showers which is a huge plus. Lastly, they keep this place CLEAN! After every class I see the staff disinfecting the mats and really going for every spot without cutting corners. read more

I'm proud to say that I survived my first week of kickass kickboxing classes here. I've taken the morning classes and I'm feeling it. It's been a while since I've taken kickboxing class (over 3 years) and I forgot how much I loved it. They have really good instructors, and there is never a dull moment in their classes because you're constantly moving and doing something different. These workouts will kick your butt. The facility is nice, clean and big. There is a back room that you have no idea about until you actually go inside, so it's a lot bigger than you think it is. I go to the morning cardio kickboxing classes because they fit my schedule. I haven't tried the afternoon or evening classes yet, but I love the morning instructors. Give these guys a try...they're really nice and welcoming to newbies. I forgot how to wrap my hands and the instructors were nice enough to show me how. There is a poster on the wall that shows you how that I didn't see, so it was nice of them to help me out. It's those little things that I really appreciate because it makes us new ones feel a little more welcome into a new place. :-) read more

I went in and was greeted by Beto who is as friendly as can be. He wrapped my hands in tape and walked me over to where the class was being help. He introduced me to Melinda and I was on my way. Melinda was awesome! Wow, it had been a long time since I've had a total workout due to some surgeries I was out of shape! Melinda knew I was a first timer and worked with me as she went along, she's super friendly and I love that smiling face! I didn't feel like a complete dummy, everyone in the class was different from first timers like me, intermediate and saw some real pros as well. I am aching today so I take it I did ok!!! Overall, great experience, nice people, great workout and a clean gym. This was a far drive for me to get to Tustin but it was worth it and I would love to do another class! read more
