I joined the six week challenge with my son doing the kickboxing and Muay Thai classes. Highly recommend this gym as everyone is nice, inclusive and encouraging so it didn't feel too intimidating to join the classes. I would encourage to try all the different classes, some emphasize cardio to get into shape and learn Muay Thai on individual punching bags and other classes you can partner up and/or spar with someone. The teachers are really good, some are former pro fighters who teach high level, practical martial arts. My 13 year old daughter was going through some very hard things with covid, school and her friends (she was starting to hang with the wrong croud), we were at a loss of how to handle her. I've only been here for a month, but I've finally found the prefect martial arts gym. They have everything here: no-gi jiu-jitsu, gi jiu-jitsu, muay thai, boxing, wrestling, and even full-on MMA. The schedule is super flexible, and there are so many offerings throughout the week. All of the coaches here are friendly and knowledgeable. They'll work you hard, but at the end of the day you'll be glad that they did. I've never been so exhausted after a training session as I have been in the MMA, cardio kickboxing, and no-gi jiu-jitsu classes - just complete exhaustion. Already, though, I feel like my conditioning is getting better although there's still a long way to go. The front staff is super friendly and helpful. The facility is rather large, and there are even showers here, which is rare. It's clean and more than adequate. They have great gear and shirts for purchase. The website is pro, and their videos were a big factor in me choosing to try a free class. I really, really enjoyed the MMA class because you can train your ground and grappling skills while having to take into consideration strikes, which is very relevant for self-defense and real-world altercations. I also love that they offer no-gi classes. I just don't like how the gi rubs against your skin during collar chokes, and it's a hassle to wash constantly. I also think no-gi is more realistic for self-defense, which is why I train martial arts. Still, you have the option to train gi and be a part of a legit jiu-jitsu team: Brazilian Top Team. I had such a great experience with the 6-week kickboxing challenge! My friend and I did it together which really helped us keep each other accountable in terms of attendance and diet. Each instructor we had was so professional, friendly, and really contributed to us thoroughly enjoying the challenge! A couple of years ago I walked in this gym knowing nothing about MMA but always wantef to try it. I had played football all the way through collede and workef out my entire life and thought I was in ptetty good shape. I thought I worked out oretty hard.. I was wrong! When you actually like the people that you train with, and they become your friends, you sort of forget that you're working out so hard and going to the gym becomes a joy rather than a chore. You can ask anyone around Total MMA - you'll often see me after a class or two, hanging around and chatting with the coaches, or one of the members. We're all one big, happy family! 3. CLEAN. I have had the opportunity to train at many gyms and I can honestly say that Total MMA is refreshingly strict about their cleaning schedule of the mats. After every single class, the mats are mopped up, ensuring that the next person to strike, roll, or grapple in that spot will not have to worry about any nasty sweat, dirt, bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoa, spit, hair, glass...etc.! And throughout the gym, you will find neon green signs that exclaim - NO SHOES ON MATS! NO BARE FEET OFF MATS! While obeying this rule sometimes is difficult, it just goes to show how seriously the gym takes into consideration the cleanliness and hygiene for its members, and I appreciate that. 4. RESULTS. If you've gotten this far into reading my review, I'd say it's safe to assume that you're pretty serious about starting your fitness regimen and also pretty seriously considering joining Total MMA. Good for you! I shouldn't have to say this, as it should be a given -- but if you want results, then you better put in the time and effort. There are no freebies in life, people. Now, that said, as long as you come to class (on time), do your BEST, LISTEN to the coaches, and come CONSISTENTLY, I can personally guarantee that you will see results. I love the benefits of training in Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu and I see the positive impact both sports have had in my mental and physical discipline as well as muscular and cardiovascular improvement. 5. VALUE. So I've told you how great the instructors are already. They're like the Ferraris and Aston Martins of personal trainers. I've told you how great the facility is - it's spacious, clean, has lockers, showers, multiple bathrooms, and it's own free weight area with 2 Versa Climbers. You have a variety of classes at your fingertips (Cardio Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ) - at the time of this writing, there are about 72 various classes on the schedule and 13 kids classes. What other gym is there with this kind of offering? None that I know of. THAT'S value. I was only going to be in Orange for a month and found out about this place via Groupon. I got the unlimited classes discount for one month which was perfect. I've taken several kickboxing classes before this at a couple other gyms, and I have to say that the Cardio Kickboxing classes here are more intense. Your gym membership here (comparable to any where rate wise) makes the whole gym available to you. That means you can come and use the equipment at anytime it's open to do any kind of workout. They a have ring where Muay Thai and boxing classes take place. They have world class Bjj from at least a dozen black belts that train here as well as teach as well as mma fighters. Juliano and Adriano are former mma fighters. They have over 15 years experience coaching and teaching. They have various kinds of discounts like a family one we take advantage of. They are very friendly to guests as well. They have every thing available for kids that they do for adults including wrestling and kickboxing. I love the trainers at this gym. It's been officially a year since I've started coming here and I'm honestly the strongest I've been my whole life. Everyday is hard work. Hard but fun! Raquel which is a jujitsu bad ass to say the least, gives the best boot camp ass kickings . Excuse the language but she works you outtt! I recently participated in and completed the 6-week challenge through Total MMA Studios. Beforehand, I had little ji-jitsu experience but had always been interested in trying it out. To learn more, I had been going to many trial classes at other Brazilian jiu-jitsu gyms in my area. Most other gyms only offer a single-day free trial. The single-day trial does give a little bit of insight into how the gym functions, its culture, and the curriculum, I found it very useful to have 6 weeks to test Total MMA Studios. I found that the 6-week program's curriculum provided fantastic fundamentals while being taught semi-privately by a black belt instructor. All of the black belt instructors (and students altogether) were extremely welcoming, had a fantastic understanding of the techniques, and were very willing to help. We also had the chance to "roll" with both beginners and higher belts. At many other gyms I've attended, we either did not have the option to roll during the class or I observed white belts rolling with white belts. Having the opportunity to roll with higher belts as a white belt is not only a great honor but also a fantastic learning opportunity. *Note: I typically attended the 7 am class, so there was a good ratio of white belts to higher belts. The other classes I tried had different instructors with different teaching styles but still provided the same opportunity to roll with higher belts.* I noticed that other than learning fundamentals, I was also able to better detect body pressure so that I could make a move (that I learned from the class) or escape from a potential move that would be used to submit me (based on awareness from the moves I'd also learned during class). You can also supplement your knowledge with their video archive through their portal to surprise your fellow white belts with moves they've never seen unless they've viewed the videos ;). The 6-week program was pretty exhausting at first. Despite playing tennis at a collegiate level and priding myself with great endurance, I learned that you're utilizing a different endurance and strength when rolling with others. I was able to quickly adapt after the first few classes so that I could stay competitive with the others easier. I certainly feel as if I'm in better shape than I previously was. Besides BJJ (gi and no-gi), Total MMA Studios is unique for the area because it provides multiple other amenities such as Kickboxing, Muy Thai, Bootcamp classes, Wrestling, and a gym to use at your leisure. I had the opportunity to try both the Muy Thai and Bootcamp classes. I learned so much in both classes in different ways! I'd highly recommend trying them both! Overall, my experience at Total MMA Studios has been a fantastic one. Even if you're not interested in signing up long-term, if you're interested in learning BJJ, I'd highly suggest signing up! The community is fantastic and inclusive. So much so that I've already met people through the program that I plan to continue being friends with! It's also always fun to learn a new skill with instructors that are passionate, WANT to teach you, and are extremely skilled/talented at the art themselves. read more
