For a liquor store, this was top tier customer service that sold me here. I was greeted upon arrival to a manager that was genuinely warm and friendly. I was looking at a few products to take back to the my hotel for my current stay and I found exactly what I was looking for. The store was clean and vibrant despite it being empty. Tons of outstanding hard ciders, most of which I never heard of before and a decent non alcoholic section. The clerk at the front desk was really genuinely friendly as well. This is one of those chain stores that I assume people work at only when they need a job however the staff here has always been incredibly helpful to find wine. They really know what they're talking about. There also are usually free wine samplings of like 2 to 3 different wines are red and white. Prices are of course mixed and they have wine, beer, cider. Stopped in here for the first time and was shocked by the great selection! They have every kind of wine you would want, organized very clearly, along with tons of beers. Saw a lot of local beers and new seasonal offerings along with imports and fun ciders. Could spend hours just exploring all the options! Woah, I had heard about these stores from the reviews, but I had no idea that it was this expansive. As a winemaker, I have developed a good sense of pricing and "label reading". For the most part, the wine prices were pretty spot on. The selection was insane, and that is what gets the 5-star. However, I spent most of my time in the beer department. They must have had 500+ different cans of beer! Loved the mix-and-match ability, albeit this does get a bit expensive. each beer is anywhere from $2 to $9, with most falling between $3-$5. Less than you would pay at a bar, but more than you would pay going to a brewery and buying the beer yourself. We became rewards members and got coupons on the spot! We will definitely be back! read more

I've had mixed experiences from this place, but the latter definitely makes up for the former... First the background info: Every year my department hosts a pig-pickin' featuring pork, hushpuppies, various potluck surprises from others, and the all-important booze to get all of the scientists talking to each other. The bad: Having been placed in charge of picking up the booze for this 20 hour marathon of an event (typically from 6am through 2am), I placed a reservation 3 weeks in advance for one keg each of Sam Adams' Octoberfest (the good), Yuengling (the bad), and Miller Lite (the ugly). I arrived the morning of in order to put the kegs (somewhat hilariously I might add) into my small '02 Saturn SL2. Taps and buckets were already delivered, just the booze please. But there was one missing, my reserved keg of Sam Adams Octoberfest. That's right. If it were the Yuengling, it could easily be replaced by some other readily accessible lager; the Miller Lite, we'd probably be better off banging our heads into the concrete anyways; but no, it was the beverage that implied the reason for the season! Our clever pun no longer worked (Porktoberfest, get it?!?) Heartbroken I asked for an explanation, they had none but were apologetic. The pulled the form clearly indicating I was to receive those 3 kegs, they checked the order for the Octoberfest - someone had forgot to place it. I walked away in despair and ended up at College Beverage, who thankfully had several in stock (King of Kegs, indeed!) What followed could best be described as several months of awkward avoidance. I tried to pretend not to notice her (note that I'm personifying the store as a female in the interests of both humor and my heterosexuality) every time I drove by to go to Dicks Sporting Goods and get a pair of sneakers, or Radio Shack for some nerd supplies. It was awkward, she had betrayed me and we were broken up. But like all true loves, I couldn't stay away for very long. Looking at her in the desolation of winter I decided to give her another chance. What started with a few awkward attempts at reconciliation turned into a full-fledged retail love story! The Good: I ordered several kegs from them over the course of the next few months. I play on a hockey team, and naturally we like to drink. Every time I'll put an order in and true-to-her-word it'll be there when I need to pick it up. This is to be expected of any retail shop, but at the following year's Porktoberfest, they exceeded my expectations. We had ordered only 2 kegs, expecting a drop in attendance due to the busy October schedule - Labatt Blue (my favorite) and the Octoberfest. Both were there for pickup as promised, and delivered for the event. I had to attend a wedding that afternoon and was bouncing around locations. Upon returning late that night, I noticed that the Labatt keg was barely touched (maybe 1/4 empty). I asked my colleagues if there had been a problem and many reported that it "just didn't taste right". Figuring ignorance of my favorite canadian pilsner I gave it a try. It wasn't good, not terrible, but not good. Disappointed I packed up the keg and took it back with the empty Octoberfest the next day. I greeted the manager and informed him of the situation, mainly to account for why the keg was still so heavy. He immediately offered a refund of the keg, no questions asked. I was impressed and took the refund. The next day I get a call from the same supervisor to inform me that a person from the distribution company came out to test the keg. It indeed had a leak, oxidizing its precious contents slowly over time changing its taste to a stale Miller-quality. He offered his apologies once again. I was very impressed with both his honesty and desire to stand behind his product. Excellent work! read more

Having been here more than any single person should be allowed, I'm finding the quality of the place to be decreasing overall. One awesome plus: They now have free WiFi. So, their beer selection spends a lot of time being ridiculously picked over. They still have a lot of options, but I've noticed that a lot of their stuff is out of stock much of the time. Also, they've been slowly removing a lot of the sections they used to have for beer. A couple of the aisle ends are not filled with beer any more. Another issue I have is that they have very little turnover in stock. The overwhelming majority of their stuff is there year-round. Very little new stuff comes in. I'm motivated to try different things, and I've almost worked my way out of this place. The staff are OK, but are hit-and-miss. Some times they are really helpful; other times, they are remarkably incompetent. And they seem to have a really hard time keeping the check-out lanes filled with enough people. Pretty normal wine shop. Great place to be introduced to new things at a comfortable price for you. They have very cheap bottles and very expensive bottles. Everything is in their own section and there are usually people working the floor to answer any questions. I've been using their online system but haven't yet reached the place to get rewards back. Might update after that. I did notice some bottles i usually drink are cheaper here than at Trader Joe's, for example, but there are also some that are cheaper at Trader Joe's, but it's never by much. read more

I have mixed feelings about Total Wine. I much prefer to shop at the wonderful small locally owned wine shops in the area since I get such great personalized service and they are extremely helpful. Having said that, Total Wine does have a very good selection of both wines and beers, and their prices are decent. I'll stop in here if I happen to be in Crossroads and need to grab a bottle of wine, or if there is a certain beer that I'm trying to find. If I am going out specifically to shop for wine though I will be heading to Apex Beverage Company or Great Grapes. I did find today though that Total Wine has the best price that I've seen in the area for Veuve Cliqout Champagne, so I may have to come back for some more of that! read more

With all of the locally-owned craft/specialty beer stores that have opened in the Triangle in the past several years, I find it a bit odd (yet awesome!) that Total Wine still has one of the best selections of beer in the area. I'm not as much of a wine expert as I am of beer, yet I do have to say that I've never been disappointed with their wine selection, and the prices are lower than other stores on most items. read more

It would have been fine had the service been better. First time visiting this location. There was a group of workers standing around talking to each other and neither asked if I needed help. When I finally found what I was looking for on my own, I got to the check-out and the young lady asked if I found everything ok (she never looked up at me nor did she ask it as if she really cared).I said no and said that I was looking for a certain wine...she gave me no response. Although I try to support my local beer/wine store as much as possible, Total Wine is just so good I keep going back. Although it is easy to get overwhelmed at such a huge store, managers at this location work incessantly to please customers, and the paper descriptions of staff favorites/popular buys makes the store more navigatable. Boyfriend and I were visiting my parents in Raleigh. Being the wine lovers that we are, my mother mentioned this wine shop that she had never been to but looked "large". Well it is in fact large and like the previous reviewer had mentioned the shelves are full of all sorts of different wines. We ended up picking 6 bottles of wine (no we aren't alcoholics haha) a couple of Reislings and some wines local to NC. I gave this Total Wine & More 5 stars because I made an online order and received exceptional service from the staff, specifically Carrie and Nichole, when I called to follow up on my order with questions and special comments about the order. I was on a mission to find Fullsteam beer on my drive between Florida and VA, and a friend offered to pick some up for me in NC at this Total Wine and More since it was near her home & I would be seeing her on my overnight in NC. I went online to make the order & was super psyched they had the Basil Farmhouse beer in stock as well as a couple others we had never tried. Many of the beers were listed "out of stock," so after I placed my order, Nichole called to let me know that one of the items I purchased was not in stock & I would not be charged. I asked if they had more Fullsteam stock that wasn't available on the website. Long story short, I had 3 different conversations throughout the day & Carrie searched through the store while I was on the phone to help me. I felt like they were truly interested in helping me find what I wanted, troubleshoot the issues we experienced with the online inventory system, and make sure everything was ready for my friend when she arrived the next day. But the cherry on top was when my friend delivered the beer, Carrie had personally added to my order at her own expense to buy me 2 Fullsteam beer pint glasses! Thank you Ladies. So.. My fiancé and I decided that to be able to furnish our wedding reception, we would go with consulting someone at your location as you have a wide variety of both beer and wine! We called before hand, because neither one of us have been married before, with several questions as to the amounts of wine/ beer we would need to purchase, and were assured that if we came in, we would be able to meet with someone that would be able to help us with all these things! We were excited about meeting with someone to make our decisions much easier... Let me share with you what we discovered instead!! We walked in and approached the customer service desk, and as being someone that has also worked in the service industry, and also owning a business of my own, did not expect anything more than a smile and offer for help. We were met with a girl that would not even look up from her computer. We told her what we were there for, and she said she needed to find someone else. When she asked the guy behind her, he said he was busy, so she proceeded to ask us about our needs. When we told her what we needed, she handed us off to the nearest manager. The manager, Thomas Thorne, was able to direct us as to the location, but was hurried and unable to offer help that we needed. We were expecting someone to direct us as we were told we would be helped. He was very arrogant and after we talked to him about the wine, told us " if we want to look at beer, it's over there on the wall".. No help whatsoever!! I was so disappointed that I will no longer be placing my reception alcohol order with these guys!! No help.. Poor customer service.. Lack of help! I would never tolerate my employees acting in this manner, nor do I support places that treat customers this way! Hopefully they improve, because this was more than a major disappointment! Do not waste your time going to this location unless you know what you want, and can go in and grab it! Find some other location that would be more willing to help! read more

Service staff was really nice! They have a decent selection of cigars at a great price, considering that cigars are not their specialty. They have a great selection of wines, their local and craft beer selection is painfully limited, especially compared to other "Total Wine & More" stores in the chain. Excellent service! I have been a been a customer for years! After moving from Delaware to NC, I got the same excellent service to which I had become accustomed.
