Great selection of premium beers and wine at Total Wine & More. I also like the specialty snacks that grocery stores do not stock. The location is convenient and easy to access off of Concord Mills. The parking lot is pretty large and surrounded by other stores that share the spaces. The store is clean, well-maintained, very organized, and the staff are pleasant. Prices are not outrageous. I knew total wine does free tastings on wkends but didn't know they do classes as well for a small price until my friend invited me. We went to a Spanish wine tasting and it was abt 8 different wines and they provided some light snacks to go with it. The instructor was very knowledgeable abt each one. They sell wine here and as a bonus... cigars! Truth be told their wine selection is not at all exhaustive. There were so many brands and selections that they didn't have, but all of the associates are connected to the "command" center and will call in or connect to inventory to see if customer selections can be fulfilled. As a rare indulgence, I enjoy the occasional cigar, and I was happy to see that they sell them here. I saw cigars ranging from three bucks for a single to $40 for one. Of course there are boxes too. The description of the cigars seemed very specific, from the notes of tobacco used through the wrapping and the country of origin. So if you like cigars there is probably one here to fit your budget and preferences. Entirely on par are the precautions to keep you safe. Kudos to this establishment. The carts have been sanitized, disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizers are free for all. Each employee is wearing masks, and social distancing is cheerfully enforced. On the Wednesday, before Thanksgiving when I stopped inside all of the employees seemed super helpful, knowledgable, polite and cheerful. I was looking for a low-calorie wine and I found one here. Disgusting!!! As it turned out to be. Can anyone recommend a decent low-calorie wine? On the bright side, they had my favorite wine at a considerable price reduction of three dollars less than I usually pay for it. Parking is a plentiful breeze. They also have a loyalty club. I visited this store on Sunday March 26 @4pm and was refused service by the manager of the store. This is how the experience went ... We waited in line for about 5 mins as the customer in front of us was having some issues with her gift card and the cashier did NOTHING to help and speed the process up. Eventually the customer got it together and it was our turn. We were "greeted" asked if we were a member I said yes employee looks up at me and very rudely asked if I was related to the person I was with. This question caught me so off guard that I asked him to repeat himself. He automatically became upset and asked again this time demanding to know HOW we were related. I politely asked why does that matter? At this time he refused to answer my question and pressed on. Eventually I said she was my cousin and he then immediately YELL out to me that he couldn't sell the wine and beers to me. When I asked why? He did NOT have an answer for me, just kept saying I can't serve you. I then asked is it because I said she's my cousin he nodded his head and dismissively moved on the next customer. Confused and embarrassed I walked to the back of the store and asked another employee to speak to the manager and to my surprise the "MANAGER" was the cashier on Line 1 who just refused to serve me WITHOUT an explanation. I explained what happened to this employee he says it's their policy to refused service to anyone who is with a minor. Which is BS. Remember the customer that checked out before us? She was CLEARLY with a minor and I did NOT witnessed the manager even ask her for ID or asked her the same series of questions that were aimed at me. If you look up their policy (which I included in this to review) you don't see that anywhere! In fact it clearly states "if you APPEAR to be of age 30 or under our team Members will ask for identification". "Also states "any person under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult guardian of legal drinking age". The problem here besides the horrible customer service is that NOT ONCE was I nor my cousin asked for ID which is a VIOLATION of their own policy. He just took a look at us and refused to sell to us again WITHOUT ASKING FOR ID. One can only make their own assumptions as to why. Now I say this to Total Wine... You guys are failing tremendously on keeping your promise of "providing superior customer service and responsible service" to your customers by having this manager "managing" your store. The fact that I am NOT the only person who has experience this type of treatment and violation of your very OWN policy by your own employee/manager says you to me that you guys do not care enough about your customers. Because why is this person still employed after multiple complaints? At this point this "manager" is operating by his own rules and abusing his "power" because you guys are allowing it. My sister went placed a pick up order from this location today. I went decided to accompany her, as I was interested in potentially trying a new wine. We were first approached by a gentleman who asked if we needed anything & we politely declined, since we already knew exactly what we came for. We proceeded to the appropriate aisle & he asked if we wanted to try the wine we were looking at. We agreed, upon following him, he asked for our IDs. At that moment, I realized I accidentally left my wallet, however my sister had hers. I told him it was fine, she could go ahead and try it herself, as I forgot my ID. He said he couldn't serve either one of us, since I didn't have my ID, understandably so. My sister then asked, if she could just get her pickup order & he referred us to his manager. The manager overhead him referring us to her, and stepped in. We explained that I didn't have my ID, but my sister had a pickup order. I was ok with not getting anything, I know that's how the law works. However, she stated my sister would not be able to get her already paid for order. We said okay & proceeded to leave the store. As we're leaving, merely steps away from the exit. A third store associate hops in front of us, says "couldn't find what you were looking for?". We told her no, since once again, I forgot my ID. She responds by saying "yep gotta have your ID". We obviously already know this, as we're quite literally exiting the store. We were not argumentative without anyone, we simply said okay to everyone and left promptly. My problem with this entire experience, is not them refusing to provide us with an already paid for order. Were both 26, I understand the laws in place. It was just an honest mistake. I have an issue with the underlying condescending & antagonistic tone that was displayed by ALL associates/manager. We were nothing but polite and respectful, we were literally exiting the store, without interacting with anyone. We did not need to be stopped 2 additional times completely unaware, just to be told the same exact thing. We went back to the car and ended up picking up the order, by selecting curbside online. I will say, the gentleman who brought the order to the car was extremely pleasant and polite. (We did not see him inside the store). Overall, this experience was so off putting to both my sister and I. Safe to say, we won't be back. read more

I visited this store on Saturday as a vendor to demonstrate Bar Dog Wine! The manager Carolyn, is a surprise delight. She welcomed me to the store and was extremely helpful in locating my promotional swag items that I would be giving out to the shoppers. Not only did she chill my bottle of wine but also, she went to the aisles and bought over the other varietals that I would be pouring as samples. Over the years my experience in this store has been less than stellar. Total Wine & More is your total destination for your beverage vices. I'm not a cigar smoker so I'll leave that critique for the experts. As far as their beer and wine selection, it left me in awe. Tons of macro and micro selections abound. If it's brewed in North Carolina, you can find it here. Most impressing was the fact that there prices were as good or even better than the grocery store. This goes for the wine as well. If you want something fancy, they have it. If you want a good bargain like myself, they have you covered too. I found what I was looking for but was asked several times if I needed help. My only suggestion would be to offer a few more international beer varieties. I found the Taj Mahal but would really love to see an Old Monk or Super Cool from India. Other than that, it's worth the extra trip from the grocery store! read more

I'm a dude. I'm not a very talented shopper. I have always wanted a personal shopper to help me tackle my shopping list. By golly, I found one! Today I entered this location with hopes of matching my three favorite neighbors with a bottle of wine for Christmas. As soon as you walk into the store you are staring at the customer service desk. A friendly gentleman was sitting there and asked me if he could help and what was I looking for. Unlike a salesperson at the mall he really meant that he wanted to help. I explained to him what each neighbor liked and the price range I was looking to spend and he took me straight to that wine. He told me what was a popular seller among that category as well as what he liked. I was VERY impressed. The store is HUGE and the selections seem endless. I felt great about each of the three bottles I chose. I look forward to presenting them. I could have never accomplished this on my own. There's also much more to the store besides wine. I bought some salsa. They had a large selection of different cheeses. They had cigars. They had beers and ales. After the crazy Christmas shopping season is over I plan to take a trip back to the store and just peruse the aisles and study the shelves. The checkout was easy and the cashier wrapped my bottles so they wouldn't break. If you buy a lot they assemble a box to carry your wine in. This store is clean. It is LARGE. I've been to this specific total wine numerous times and have happily presented my ID (if I am even asked) but tonight they would not sell me beer because my companion didn't have his ID on him. They claimed that to even be in the store, you have to be at least 18-21; they said this to me when a literal 12 year old was in the other line with an adult. Was she her child? Idk you can't really prove it!! Not to mention the manager didn't even look of age if we want to be frank. We even had a photo of his ID and they wouldn't take it. If my companion looked younger than 21, I would get the suspicion, but he doesn't even look younger than 25! Management said they are "just like an ABC store", yes, the one that doesn't sell spirits . I would much rather support a local beer shop that CONSISTENTLY asks for ID then some corporate store thats gets a new manager/team of employees every 3months or so and decides randomly to require non-purchasers to provide their ID. The hilarious thing is, I went to a different total wine and they didn't even ask me for MY ID LOL. Give me a break. read more

Went here on 12/24/2020 with a friend 32 minutes before closing . I was greeted by two people at the door with pleasant smiles and immediately offered help. While roaming the aisle of Spain the most wonderful human named Victoria offered to help me . Her love for wine was apparent even with the mask on. The abysmal customer service exercised by one associate made the entire experience negative. This experience cemented my preference for buying wine at grocery stores in NC. Total Wine prides themselves on enforcing the "letter of the law" more vigorously than other vendors of alcoholic beverages, however they tend towards the ridiculous in their practices and policies. I entered the store with my husband and his younger brother, who is evidently a minor. We were immediately singled out by a customer service manager, who politely answered my inquiry about the location of a specific brand, then switched his tone and sharply asked "where are your parents?" Rather than request our identification, evidence of our relationship to my husband's brother, or politely communicate the specific policies he was compelled to enforce, he harshly told us to "step outside," then yelled that we needed to "step outside please." The escalation was unwarranted, neither my husband nor myself had objected to his request, though we were both visibly puzzled. I have worked in customer service positions before and can understand the pressures of the job, but it was entirely unnecessary to cause an unwarranted scene like that in front of all the other holiday shoppers. We were both very upset following this interaction, but as we were in the midst of Christmas shopping we decided to try again later in the day, only without my brother-in-law accompanying us. Two hours later we returned, both of us were confident we would have a positive experience this time around. Yet, immediately the same manager accosted us. "We've already had this conversation," he said, "you need to leave." He cited ABC laws, saying he could lose his license if he were to sell to us now. Rather than explaining this calmly, he again escalated the situation and told us we could not come back within 24 hours. The difficulty with this situation was compounded because this manager explained nothing clearly and in his interaction with us he did not attempt actual customer service. Why does Total Wine train its employees to treat customers with such suspicion instead of respect? I can understand when establishments exercise the right to refuse in situations where it is warranted, but the spirit of the law exists only to protect people, not allow arbitrary enforcement and age-based discrimination. It was also evident that this kind of policy forces Total Wine associates to occupy a very uncomfortable place. Their training practices encourage profiling customers in their search for potential violations of the law. Mixed families of all sorts have become the norm in a modern world. Why should Total Wine require customers to furnish proof that they hold legal guardianship over any minors in their care? They have no authority to do so, and it places an undue burden on their associates to attempt to enforce. Frankly, there are many other vendors I would recommend to other law-abiding citizens in NC, but Total Wine has proven themselves to disrespect customers and their employees with these practices. I think the manager himself put it best when I asked where else I might go, "Just go to a grocery store. Really, anywhere else." read more

Wow is I can say is how terrible my experience was. There was one cashier working and a line about 4 deep. They called for backup because my husband and I needed to make a return on a mixing pitcher because we found something different to use. They finally call for back up and this guy Jason came up to "help" us. I wish I could say help. My husband uses contactless pay or Apple Pay when ever possible. This was no exception. We make the return and the card is declined. We only use one card and he used the physical card because that's what was requested of Jason the supervisor making the return. The physical card didn't work so he said well the try the contactless. We did. It didn't work. He got very abrupt with my husband and was well I don't know it's not my fault contact Apple Pay. I've never had trouble with anything Apple Pay in the past. He then gets abrupt with my husband again and was fine I will put it on a gift card and was like I'm not even supposed to do this. Then opens the drawer and slams the refund down. If we weren't honest people he would have given us more back than we were due. Then he says as we were leaving I hope next time we can service you better. Very disrespectful and rude. I've never had an experience with a supervisor like this. Many beers are 20-30% cheaper at other retailers, and when I tried to check out I was told I needed to present ID of two random people because they were "in my party" (I had no idea what the clerk was talking about). This is no way to treat one's customers. Somehow, I'm responsible for random people? Oh well, the good news is I can take my business elsewhere.
