They're knowledgeable and always willing to point you in the right direction if you need help choosing something. This is an amazing store. The staff is exceptional, and no their way around perfectly. They helped me find a bottle of wine. I've been looking for for a very long time from Raymond Vineyards. When the label on the first bottle was a little banged up, they got their huge machine and opened a box up above. It was a gift so I found the perfect bottle. What a wonderful place to shop. It was my first time visiting Total Wine in Northridge, and only my second time ever visiting any location. It's very cool to walk through all the aisles and seeing so many things that I've never seen before! It's pretty easy to find anything you are looking for, everything is categorized and straightforward in every aisle! My wife and I had a great experience at this Total Wine and More yesterday. We had to get some wines for our baby shower this Saturday so my wife wanted to come here. We came during lunch and they were not busy at all. I found parking easily in the front of the store. The store is nicely organized and if you want to find the drink you want quicker then just go on their website. I wanted to see their Teremana bottles so I just went on their website and it told me what aisle it was in. My wife found the wines bottle she wanted and I went to pay. Selection is very large and the pricing and displays seem reasonable. Walking in, it feels like you're in a huge warehouse of all types of alcohol!! The tobacco section is enclosed in a separate area which is nice. I noticed that a specific drink flavor that my friends and I wanted was unfortunately not in the display, so oh well. As expected with the name, there are so many wines in the store! Got to trying out a new wine. The cashiers are also on top of checking IDs which is good. I don't drink wine makes me sick...sulfates. However, during my stop today around 9:40 a.m., I experienced something that gave me pause. While waiting to check out, I noticed the customer ahead of me paid with a credit card and was not asked for identification. When it was my turn, I was immediately asked to present ID for my card purchase. It's unlikely this was due to age--at 60, I'm well past the point of looking too young for a credit card. Someone needs to train the staff as how to speak to the customers. I am a "Reserve" status customer and have purchased many items from this place for many years. I usually order and pay online and pickup my merchandise by showing my driver's license with no problem. Today, I went to the store to pickup my wines and showed my driver's license to the person that was trying to assist me. Immediately he mentioned " NEXT TIME SHOW US THE ORDER NUMBER" I was appalled with the comment and the tone! It was like I violated a law and an enforcement officer is trying to give me a break or do me a favor!!! Then I proceeded in finding the email confirmation number among hundreds of emails I receive daily to show him. After I showed him the email and he saw the order number, he asked me for the driver's license that I showed him earlier!! To top this horrible experience, one of the wines was bad. The cork was sunk and the bottle accumulated a lot of pulp. I felt like this was rare *humanity is good* level of customer service. My wife had a huge milestone (becoming a Doctor) and I was frantically trying to make her a cocktail with lavender in it. At Northridge location picking up online order. Previously, I had been to 2 Ralphs, 1 VONS and 1 Smart & Final for Bailey's Irish Cream for St. Patrick's Day. No luck finding any. I was on the other side of the SFV when I thought to try "total wine and more". It was rush-hour and I really didn't want to drive across the valley. So after looking online I decided to download the Total Wine More app. I was able to order what I needed and have a pick up window of today at 9 AM. There are several time slots to choose from. I was very happily surprised that the prices were very reasonable. In my case a lot less than market retail prices I received an email that instructed me to check in as soon as I arrived at this location. I pulled up into one of the designated parking spots and checked in from the email I received. I think my total wait time was like 4 min. The employee came out, checked my ID and was very friendly and professional. The process was so fast. I don't think I will ever shop for wine or liquor in a store again. Definitely digging the Northridge Total Wine... it's been quite some time... The layout is always bright and welcoming as are most of the employees. I was greeted by a manager at the front of the store upon entering and just got lost in wine for a while. There's a few distilleries and more so wineries I'm currently obsessed with they don't carry such as The Fableist, Obvious Wines (other than Dark & Bold) and Honora Vera Monastrell Organic (however other locations outside of the SFV do...)... Those minor things aside... They have enough to keep you busy for quite some time. The wine and spirits are super well organize by region or varietal/style... I don't know if they have an organic wine section, but I would have love to have spotted it since a lot of them, not all of them tend to be vegan friendly as well... Though it's a 60/40 chance with any wine or winery. The spirits section is epic... Still on the hunt for a bottle of knob creek maple... Although I'm sure they have it as I've gotten it here in the past, but couldn't located it. There wasn't really anybody around to ask and I had spaced as I ventured throughout the store. The website is probably one of the best tools for checking inventory and/or locating an item... I just always seem to have spotty signal at Total Wine locations in general. Total Northridge has a killer beer selection also... Although finding a complete case or even six pack of one thing might be challenging unless it's popular, cold, imported or very domestic. They have this cool build your own 6 pack mix it up isle of so many craft beers that is always stocked up. People do pool from 6pks on the floor to try a bottle rather than a full pack and this can be bittersweet depending on what you need or want to try. Overall a great store to shop at... Though if you need help on the floor you might have to flag the first Total Team Member you spy as they keep busy. The checkout stands were low by the time I was ready, but it was busy busy when I walked in and there were still a lot of patrons on the floor when I left. Ali was super kind when I checked out. She was probably one of the only two associates who engaged me and she recommended some good prosecco by La Vostra... I've actually had before and might consider revisiting on my next T.W. I had such a great experience at this Total Wine & More location. The first staff earner helped me out so well, listening to my needs while also recommending ton of options for my Christmas gift wine bottles. In fact , the staff were so friendly that once the first staff member had helped me out, another popped out of nowhere to ensure I'd been helped and even suggested a very similar batch of wines as their top favourite. I revisited this location as my boyfriend and I decided which canned cocktails we wanted for our HOTD finale viewing party, which also gave me an opportunity to explore the store in more depth and try out the "Try Before You Buy," option. A couple of notes/observations: Hacks to finding a good wine: -Make sure to check out their section of wine dedicated to wines that rate 90 and above on the James Suckling rating scale. If you don't know an awful lot about wine, the James Suckling rating scale is the best cheat sheet - and not all the wines will break your bank! Some are even 11, 12, 14, or 15 bucks each. -Also peruse for the wines marked as "Try Before You Buy." This option is only permitted for specifically-marked wines, and it helped me confirm a Prosecco selection I wanted to purchase, and Ryan (shoutout!), who helped me, provided his wine knowledge, and other suggestions based on my preferences. It was like a micro wine-tasting experience! I learned about how unoaked, and uncorked wine is more eco-friendly, and unoaked Chardonnay has a flavor-profile more akin to Savingnon Blanc (my current favorite). -They also mark their employee's favorites, which I find makes for a more personable experience. Room for improvement: While I realize it's law to ensure minors aren't purchasing alcohol, or adults aren't purchasing on behalf of minors, instead of a small sign at the entrance, maybe they should be enforcing an ID to enter the premises? I did overhear a staff member reminding a group as they entered all party members would need an ID in order to purchase, but it was somewhat embarrassing during our first visit (when my boyfriend was purchasing) that I had to run back to my car to grab my ID. Total Wine and More, is a big store, and it would definitely be upsetting to spend your time looking for what you want only to be turned away because someone in your group doesn't have their ID. This issue seems to be echoed in many other reviews here, with some highlighting possibly inconsistent enforcement (leading some folks to feel discriminated against - let's not forget that biases can be unconscious!) - so this is my constructive feedback! No sooner did Governor Gavin Newsom announce that bars were going to be closed (again) in Los Angeles County due to COVID19 than my quarantine brain told me I needed to immediately panic-buy some wine. I popped online to search for a specific wine I'd tasted at a recent virtual wine tasting and finally found it at Total Wine and More. I'd never heard of Total Wine before, to be honest. I have a local wine shop that I frequent but unfortunately they didn't have the wine I was looking for. Total Wine did (hence the name, I guess!). Total Wine has made pandemic adjustments in great style. Their website has got it going on: it's easy to search, easy to open an account, and very easy to order. Click! Click! Click! Order $30 worth and you will have enough for a free curbside pickup. Their website automatically updates to let you know if the store closest to you has the wine you want in stock. If they're out, it lets you know which store has the wine available. Amazingly convenient. And I love their curbside pickup; park in a designated numbered spot right in front and text them the parking space number. Out come the bottles and off you go! From the looks of it, lots and lots of people were restocking their home bars (beer and spirits are offered as well as wine.) Prices are reasonable and the selection seems pretty darn good. They offer a wide selection of items that I need, provide friendly service consistently, keeps the store clean, and have plenty of parking out in front. I placed an online order early Friday morning for curbside pickup. I received an order confirmation email shortly after and an order ready for pickup email 7 hours later. Upon arrival, I parked in front at one of the curbside pickup designated spots, followed the direction on the sign, and texted my spot #, 1st initial of my 1st name + last name. They replied back stating they were unable to locate the order under my name. After providing the order number, they replied back that they were retrieving the merchandise, will be bringing it out to the vehicle shortly and to have my ID ready. After verifying my info, they assisted and placed the items in my trunk. Easy peasy! When asked if they would card someone buying pretzels or chips, Brendan the cashier said that it's "store policy to card every transaction" and that we should go somewhere else if we only wanted food.
