Disappointed after reading the other reviews because majority seems positive. Guy there was extremely rejective, unhappy, overall rude. I had asked very, very simple yes or no questions. Was left with blank stares and mainly snarky answers/responses. I don't know, perhaps I caught buddy in a wretched state which is still no excuse. All I can say out of this review is, don't support this guy. Please go somewhere else. Also, everything is covered in layers of dust. read more

Many of the reviews here are for the beer, but most of the space is occupied by wine. That's why I shop there. They have wines from California as well as from all over the world. These are not your typical wines-- not what you find at your local grocery store, Bev Mo, or Total Wines and More. They are also not low price point wines (few wines are under $20) and many have significant age. Careful to check the age and ask before you buy what you might expect if you are not familiar with aged wines. The owner is knowledgeable and will help you find what you are looking for. Also a great place to just browse through their interesting selection and ask questions. I highly recommend Liquid if you are looking for a wine that is different, already aged, and ready to drink without having to cellar. read more

So I walk in the door here on a random weekday. I hear the clerk (owner) talking. What is he talking about? Why me and Adam B. of course. More specifically, our reviews here on Yelp. What are the chances? Seeing as I dinged them a star for limited selection, I keep my mouth shut and shop. When I wrote before that their selection was limited, I should have explained. I compare their selection to some mega specialty stores I have been to, such as Sam's Wine in Chicago and the Wine House in West LA. For the SFV, I think they have an awesome selection of wine (though Adam says their beer selection is lacking). I shop around and see they really do have a good selection of wines, many small producers not found elsewhere. I am shocked to see a bottle of Sea Smoke Southing priced at $70 a bottle. This is a hard to find cult wine. I am on the preferred list at the winery and this wine is marked up only $20 more than what I pay. And, I had to wait 3 years to get an allocation. Very fair pricing. Anyway, I came in today because I was in the area and needed some recommendations for wineries to visit on a trip to Sonoma. I chatted with Pete for a while. He rattles off places with detailed descriptions and histories of the winemakers. He really knows his stuff. Then I realize, there are only a few places in LA where I can get this kind of knowledge. Long story short, my Sonoma trip was awesome and Pete's recommendations were dead on. For these reasons, I must reconsider my prior rating of Liquid Wine and Spirits. Places like this are a dying breed, I am thankful they are still around. For your wine needs in the SFV, be sure to stop in. read more

Liquid wine is really close to work and has a nice assortment of wine and craft beers. I stopped by to get a couple of IPAs and the person behind the counter was super knowledgeable. He helped me select a couple new IPAs once he knew what I liked. When closer to work this will be an easy stop on the way home to pick up wine or select beers, but when closer to home I still will have to stay loyal to the Green Jug. Nothing wrong with having two great places! read more

Love this place! I came in trying to track down a rare beer for my dad. The person working behind the counter immediately knew what I was talking about. He said he believed he had been out for awhile, but decided to check in the back anyway. Sure enough, he found 2 bottles from an order that no one had picked up. Score for me! He was extremely friendly and helpful and said if there was anything I was ever looking for he could help me out. That's the type of customer service I love! (I just wish I remembered the gentleman's name). I'm just glad I live down the street. I now know I can just walk on over and pick up a good brew. read more

When I'm on the way to party, I always stop by here to pick up myself a little something, something! Lots of unique beers, wines and hard liquor. You can't go wrong. Prices are about average, but less than other liquor stores. The folks that work here are kind. Always friendly and talkative. They are knowledgeable, give you honest feedback and will tell you whether or not something is worth it. I like and appreciate their integrity. read more

This review is for the beer selection, because that's my particular area of interest. I don't write many Yelp reviews, generally I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said. But for a local, high quality establishment that brings something positive to the neighborhood, it's worth my effort to support them. True, it doesn't look like much from outside. I lived in Chatsworth my whole life and only discovered it last year on a recommendation from my brother. Now that I've been inside, it's the only place I'll go in the area. The selection as of this writing is awesome. They have loads of stuff I've never seen at the warehouse retailers, Green Jug / Vendome included. I usually walk in looking for a nice drink for that night, and walk out with a case of beers from around the world that I've never even heard of. I think those who say the selection isn't that great probably visited a good long while ago, because the selection today is just about world class, in my opinion. Or they're looking for 2012 Grey Mondays or 5-year cellared Cantillons or other crap you just don't find on shelves at *any* store. Bear in mind they occupy two small spots in a strip mall. They can only fit so much in there. If you're looking for one specific beer, they might not have it. They only have so much space, after all. To their credit, they waste no space on crap beer. One cooler in here is worth a whole wall of stuff at Green Jug, BevMo, etc. Not knocking the big guys, but here, with their limited space, they only put something on the shelf if they think you (or someone) is *really* going to like it. They have faith in their clientele not to be looking for 'safe' buys, so they don't pad the shelves with a lot of Blue Moon or Sierra Nevada or stuff like that. (Not that Blue or Sierra are crap, but you can get them at gas stations alongside Micheladas and crap these days for crying out loud.) I haven't learned the guys' names because I'm shy, but I have asked for recommendations and been led aright 100% of the time. One time I was trying to figure out how to get my beers home because I got too many, and the guy helping me went out of his way to help me pack it all in cases and get it on my bike (long story) safely. You might have to ask to get their attention, though, sometimes they are shy (or legitimately busy) as well. But they have never ignored me or been rude. I've been happy with the prices. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison with anyplace else, but when I look at the tags, I'm always thinking "this is reasonable" or "this beer is out of my league," never "who do they think they're kidding". The only thing I'd change about this place if it were me, is I'd swap out some wine inventory for more beer coolers. ;) And I do wish they were open later, but I understand ... if I worked there, I'd of course wish they closed earlier. ;) ;) ;) Anyway, glad to see such an awesome beer source in the (north)west valley. Craft beer selection is not out of the ordinary at the time of my visit not what you can find at Valley Beverage, Vendome, or Green Jug, but is a good place if you live in the area to pick up some craft beer. read more

I randomly stopped in here to pick up a bottle of wine to bring as a gift. Sometimes random works! Based on my experience the recommendations and the prices were excellent. I've never bought a case of wine before but his $8 pinot was so good I might go back and get one. Its good I don't live near here or I might develop a problem... Peter provided me with a case of wine that I have been looking for a long time and for a very reasonable price given the vintage is gone from shelves everywhere and can only be found in private collections or auction houses. He was also nice enough to share with me expert information regarding wines and he clearly will go out of his way to provide you with other availabilities and recommendations on a personal basis, something you will rarely or ever see from a larger vendor. I've never before had a merchant tell me he thought something was overpriced or not up-sell something but instead provide an honest opinion regarding pricing of a premium Scotch or a select version of a wine before. This shop is awesome. Peter REALLY knows his stuff, and never fails to give excellent recommendations at any price range. For example, my first time in, he set me up with 4 different kinds of beer I'd never heard of before based on well known labels I gave him, and they all tasted amazing. They also carry wines that are harder to find at all price ranges, and Peter will guide you with expert suggestions there as well. Liquid Wine & Spirits really is a hidden gem. Walked in last week to grab some craft beer and was very impressed with the selection. I grabbed 4 beers that I had not tried yet and will be back to grab more in the near future. Okay so here is a review on 2 fronts.... First, I am a frequent customer of the retail shop and always feel I get great value in all the wines and beers I purchase. Peter and his staff are always accommodating and willing to help in whatever wt they can. Second, we used their catering service to supply, deliver, and pick up all the beer and alcohol for our Daughter's wedding at an outdoor venue. They eliminated all the stress and took care of everything! Dawn was our lead person and was absolutely fabulous! I could not have been happier. I've beed dealing with LWS for over 15 years and always has been a great experience. Has the high end wines like Screaming Eagle, Kistler, Harlan and Scarecrow. Also midline HQ wines as well as a low priced, quality finds area in store under $20.00. They also got the stellar craft beer selection from heaven. Most are ice cold, ready to drink too! Peter and Steve are always helpful with selection of what my needs are. These guys also cater events like weddings, conventions and Parties so you'll never get stuck with an insipid wine because the store personel tastes most of what they sell and recommend based on quality for the buck. read more

Update: With new beer buyer Mark, the selection has vastly improved & continues too. They now have a dedicated FB page, with updates of new beer arrivals, which has been great. Mark even recently posted about a bad batch of beer due to some subpar storage by the distributor, & was accepting returns for refunds of said beer, class act. Glad to now see prices on the bottles, thank you, big improvement, otherwise, things just keep getting better at Liquids. read more

Been frequenting Liquid for at least 12 years (about time I write a review, huh?) and I am a picky, critical SOB. Peter, Steve, and actually the entire staff have always been helpful, friendly and honest. And no, I don't spend a lot of money, but it doesn't matter why I walk into the store, I'm always treated well. If it's advice, an opinion, or some obscure alcoholic oddity I want, Peter always comes through. If it's something he needs to find, he'll order it and has always provided it at what I consider a very fair price. This is the best place I can imagine to further the destruction of your liver.....and your, at least moderately well behaved dog, is always welcome! read more

I heard about the reputation and selection of this place but I got to tell you, I was really disappointed when I visited this shop in Pornland. Outside the place is pretty uninviting with a bunch of colored glass window describing what they offer and for a moment I wondered if it was open for business. It was and was a lot smaller than I expected. Beer selection was fair. Some Belgian stuff, some microbrews but nowhere near what I was expecting. I inquired about Stone's 12th Anniversary Brew (which Whole Foods and BevMo already stocked at the time) and they said to wait 1-2 weeks. Huh? Shouldn't they just have that in stock? Wine selection was OK but again, nothing spectacular. You'd be better off heading down to the BevMo on Canoga. read more

I came here to buy whiskey for a buddy and they had a very rare bottle that work great as a gift. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

So this past year I've been trying every top rated IPA I could find. When I couldn't find those in the top 20 I decided to check this place out. Sure enough they had everything I was looking for. No personality, sloppy, crowded store. At least when I go to Total Wine they are friendly. Liquid Wine??? Really? There is a solid wine for sale?
