Took my order and money and never delivered. I think this is a sham operation. Customer service was arrogant and unhelpful.

I would give 4 stars for the incredible beer selection (including an amazing amount of craft, regional, and seasonal) as well as the tremendous wine selection; and the new spacious Whole Foods-like location is a welcomed change from the old spartan warehouse-like location just a parking lot away. BUT, honestly, ANY store (liquor or otherwise) can boast such things. Any store can simply build nice walls, aisles, displays, etc. and stock shelves with product. An establishment gets its high ranking from the other intangibles that make a shopping experience worthy of those stars. And this Total Wine just doesn't cut it. I removed 1 star for the pricing, extremely high and not competitive for the beer selection, and the wine pricing may be competitive, they could seriously do better. I guess someone has to pay for that new location's building costs. I removed a 2nd star for the lack of professionalism in their product hawkers and the ability to approach and speak to customers in a knowledgeable manner. While there are certain standards in wine making and how wines "should" taste, everyone's palate is different. Just like people like (and dislike) different foods, people who pair their foods with wine---especially those who do so regularly---know their palate. If a customer says they're looking for a certain wine, you don't immediately respond with "that wine tastes like piss" (or something or similar ilk). You ask what the customer's palate is like, what THEY like, and how they drink their wine. Then, you offer something of similar taste, texture. You don't immediately then follow-up with pushing the "specials" wine that's clearly stacked in100s in the middle of the aisle as a promotion. Really? That says it all. read more

They did an amazing job with the new store. The selection of beer is amazing, As a beer snob myself, I can find almost any craft beer my heart desires. The place is really clean and very nice looking on the inside. Parking is a lot better than the old location. They also have a cigar humidor with a pretty good selection of cigars and the prices are good. I don't know of a better store around for craft beer. The make your own six pack is the best part, and though more expensive than buying a six pack, it is a fun way of trying different beers. read more

If you want it, they got it! This store is basically the size of a supermarket, but all liquor! I don't really shop for wine, but they have every wine you can imagine and their staff will help you find the perfect wine for you. Their beer section is out of this world though! From porters, IPAs, ales and anything else, they have it. You can create your own six pack, which is my favorite thing in the world. I love craft beer and I'm always able to try a new beer when I go there to shop. They also have a humidor for all you cigar lovers. read more

YAAAASSS I love this place, for a myriad of reasons. Let me try and explain to you why I have such strong feelings about a liquor store. 1. This new location is really well laid out -- it flows in a way that makes sense, and you can always find what you're looking for because they have friendly staff members everywhere (who approach the shoppers that look like lost lambs). Also, the lighting isn't bleak like some other liquor stores'. 2. The selection is awesome, from beer to wine to liquor to the odds-and-ends things you need for entertaining, plus a nice array of liquor-related gifts. 3. The staff picks have yet to lead me astray -- one of my favorite new wines (Le Colline Pinot Noir) came from several staff recommendations. I love seeing the little cards that advertise staff favorites, and they also post the Wine Enthusiast ratings next to some bottles. 4. Prices are very competitive, and the case discount can apply to a mix of 6 bottles (so you don't have to get all 6 of the same thing). They also offer coupons if you subscribe to their online newsletter. 5. Again, staff is amazing. Friendly, helpful, and never condescending. They even let me get a few extra boxes one day (because, pro tip, liquor boxes are amazing for moving -- they are super strong and sturdy and easy to pack). 6. They have beer and wine tastings on the weekends! Drinking and shopping are an amazing combination! My only qualm is that the parking lot is a little bit difficult to navigate sometimes, but I've never had problems getting a parking spot eventually. I love this place! read more

I went to Total Wine in River Edge on a Sunday afternoon, not too crowded but out of everything I went in for. I asked for assistance from a store employee for Michelob Ultra Gold LIght - a case of 12 oz bottles and the shelf was bare. So I asked if there was more in their stock room. I got a brief indifferent NO answer without any explanation as to when they would be stocking more. OK, next on my list. Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey Apple flavor. Nothing at all. Many employees available to help you navigate the warehouse and offer knowledgeable suggestions. I usually come here to buy a couple months worth of wine with the $15 off $100 total purchase. They also have the buy 6, save 10% off deals too. Join the Total Wine club online to keep track of your purchases (I always forget which one's I've tried and loved) and recieve emails on cheap deals and tasting events. read more

The employees who work at this store have always been helpful, personable, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.  Maria was the person who helped me the last time I went there.  The store is well-stocked with quality products and quick to assist shoppers.  The manager was very positive when I spoke to him on the phone and in person.  The introduction that I received from them was when I received a free cooler, without even having to purchase anything from them.  This was a most-friendly gesture.  What impressed me about them, recently, was that they had plenty of grain alcohol when nobody else did and the pharmacies had no rubbing alcohol.  I wound up giving my purchase to a local hospital that needed emergency supplies, including disinfectants, to help needy hospital patients during the corona crisis.  And, as you know, a little bit of alcohol for the average person is healthy in the diet, according to physicians.  Also, the Bible says to drink a little wine for your stomach.  This store is providing a healthy service to the community! This store continues to provide a nice service to the community.  I was able to pick up more 75% ethanol and this is good for disinfection - better than isopropyl alcohol which is toxic.  Marianne had answered the phone before I went in for another visit.  She was extremely polite, helpful, personable, patient and proactive.  When I arrived, the man and woman at the information desk were also very positive, in the same ways and so was Emilio who was the cashier. Absolutely mad! I asked the sales representative for a specific wine, which I previously Googled, and said it was here. He looked at me and said "why would you come here, when you can get that at a generic grocery store?" His face expression made me feel like I was worthless. Never will I come back to this place. When browsing around Total Wine you'll see happy adults strolling around like little kids at Toys R Us. There are just so many things choices! Endless aisles of wine, beer, whiskey, tequila, rum, you name it. There are also wine accessories and other cute gift for alcohol lovers out there. For beer fanatics, don't be put off by the name. There are a actually plenty of beer choices as well, not just wine. You can mix and match and your own six pack of beer or try many seasonal items by the bottle. They have a lot of local brews as well as international selection. I found a beer I tried in Belgium that I have not seen anywhere else, so I'm happy. The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable. Last time one gave us some suggestions for whiskey and tequila to try based on our budget. Of course, as the name implies, the wine selection is massive! They also have a little tasting room in the back which offers occasional wine tasting classes and more. If you come here, take your time, browse, and just enjoy the experience. You might end up going home with a lot more than you intended to buy, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed. read more

I have shopped here a few times but last night had a bad experience- I was with my sister from out of town - went to store about 9pm and we asked an associate for assistance- at first I thought he had headphones on because we said excuse me three times and he ignored us, finally he answered but showed he was annoyed- we asked him if he could get something for us because we could not reach it, he hastily reached for a small ladder ( a foot away) and got the item we said thank you and he did not answer, he hastily starts to walk away - he grabs our other item ( we placed it down for a second because we were trying to reach the item which is why we asked for help) and we told him it was ours that we had put it down for a second - he got annoyed again didn't say a word and walked away - he was a total jerk -no customer assistance- we told manager - he tried to apologize for that employee but the manager didn't seem to care - also at register to pay - again another employee no customer service- she rang out stuff - I asked to enter my phone number for the loyalty membership and then she walks away without saying anything - when she returns starts to complain to the coworker that she can't wait to leave -worse experience I had at this store- some customer service training needs to be done ASAP read more

I first went to a Total Wine & More in Delaware and really liked it. So I was happy to find that one was opened closer to where I live, though it's still quite a drive. I came here right before New Years with the goal of course of stocking up on bubbly. There selection was HUGE. I don't know if they always carry that much bubbly or if it was just because of the season but overall they carry a huge selection of all varieties of alcohol. I was able to find several hard to find items such as chocolate bitters and though it took quite a bit of searching, a sulfate free wine for someone I know whose allergic to sulfates. Prices were average, service was friendly. There were people offering samples, suggestions, etc. Parking lot was packed, it took a couple of circles for me to get a spot. I like this place however my complaint is that if you are looking for example Argentinian wine it's a scavenger hunt. They have a French, Italian, Spain section and then all others are grouped by grape. So therefore chile Cabernet is in the Cabernet section at random amongst cabs from all areas of California. read more

Another update! So in my last review I mentioned the insane price of the coors. Well, they fixed it to $5.99. Thanks Total Wine! But I noticed it with a couple other brands. For example, the Molson Golden is $1.50 per bottle which would be $9 for a six pack. Bottle King sells a six pack for $4.99. So as I wrote before, you really do have to shop around because you may be paying almost double. They do have a really nice selection but their prices are disproportionally higher on some items. read more

I spent over $1k in alcohol for my wedding here and was astonished at the rude customer service I was met with. The kegs we received were pure foam and once we told them about this they shrugged and had nothing else to offer us. They were rude to resolve a financial issue with our bill. Once I walked in I felt like my questions were burdensome to the staff. I think I'll just keep going back to Stew Leonard's where we get service with a smile and professionalism every time. Don't understand why anybody would recommend this place beyond picking up the occasional six-pack. Sorry we spent our money here. read more

I hadn't been to the store in a few months and as the temperatures warmed up it was time to stock the bar with some Whites instead of the usual Reds. So a few weeks ago I came by & almost had a heart attack when I saw that the store was no longer there!!!!! But......WAIT! I saw it down the street closer to Rt 4 *sigh of relief*! I guess they moved! So I went in and was like a kid in a candy store. I've been going to the previous location for years, and have always loved their selection, prices & customer service. But this new place is BIGGER & BETTER!!! Love it!!!! I have had to buy wine at other stores at times and since I am a regular customer & like certain brands I know what I pay here typically. Best dam liquor store period. Selection is vast in beer, wine, spirits and now cigars. The old location was awesome and the customer service was always amazing. At the new location, they didn't miss a beat. Whatever the occasion, if you need a recommendation or a quick lesson on buy this over that, Total Wine delivers. The staff knows there stuff plain and simple. From New Years champagne, to back yard BBQ's, to snobby wine tasting, to top shelf bourbon, congnac and single malt scotch. They have it. This is a great wine store, I have found the people working the floor to be very helpful, friendly and most of all knowledgeable about wines. On my last two visits I was given some suggestions of wines to try and not always the most expensive. For example I asked for the Caymus cabinet that was on sale for $65, the gentleman recommended a "Four Brothers Cabinet" based on his experience and was only $40 a bottle, tried it and it was very close in taste. Been here on this store for few times already since location is convenient to me and they have quite a lot of selection. One thing I noticed though in general with my experience when you ask help to look for a cheaper priced wine they keep pointing you to different people BUT if you look for a decent to pricey alcohol they are so willing to help. It happen to me few times since I wanted to make sure I give them chance to prove that my impression was wrong but I guess that's how they roll in this store. I even talked to a manager and was just rushing and was not willing to listen to my comment. For that I give them 1 since that's the least I can give. Don't ever try to order a delivery online. So far they have missed 2 delivery windows over 3 days. Now they think I'm going to sit home and wait for them to try again? Never, ever again. I really like going there but I find the Staff rude, pushing wines which I guess don't sell that much, names you are not familiar. They always have something negative to say about the wines I select in my cart, the ones I know and enjoy drinking. Came across one very rude staff member after reviewing my selection in my cart, he goes, "stag leap wines?? you know why people return these wines you have selected, I told him I don't care, I like them, he didn't like my response and I'm a very sarcastic manner told me to have a nice day. Another day one of the staff member told me that I am paying for the brand when there are better wines.... why can't a person purchase the wines they go there to buy and love? My experience for customer service has been different each time. I've had clueless people, people who made me feel bad about my wine choice, others who are helpful enough and some very pleasant people. The cashiers always seem annoyed. This is what happens when you essentially shop at a 'Mega Mart' versus a local small business. It's a huge place, how many true experts or service oriented people could they possibly employ? Beer and liquor prices are not as competitive, but the variety is great. For wine, you'll be hard pressed to find better prices, though my friends who live in the neighborhood say they prefer Bottle King so I will try them next time I am looking to make a large purchase. For one my one off bottles, I will continue to support small businesses. This is a supermarket for wine lovers. They have something for everyone. They also sell beer, liquor, mixers and novelty items. I always find nice novelty items for my football party, Wine tasting or Girls Night In events. I've been to 4 different locations and they never disappoint. They have a lot of items but the store is clean, well lit, spacious and well stocked. I typically don't need help but finding someone isn't hard at all. They have wines for every palate. They also offer unique beers if you want to try something new or if you stick to the script. I buy liquor on occasion from them but this time I went for a gift set. They had a fish bowl gift set. Makes 2 fish bowl drinks and all you have to add was the alcohol to the mixes provided. I'm looking forward to my latest science project and hope my fish bowls turn out delicious and refreshing. I wish there was a Total Wine closer to my hometown in Pennsylvania but that is my one and only beef with them. I love shopping here and will always stop in regardless of my wine needs or lack there of. I always find something to buy and it's always works out. Parking is never an issue. They accept credit and debit cards and they always have a great supply to fit my needs so I'm happy to stock up for my bar at home while I'm on vacation or just passing through. read more

While they do have a pretty good selection of wines, the sales push is so annoying. I avoid eye contact with every employee - they constantly try to take the bottles out of your hand or cart and replace it with the one's that give them a commission. That is just bad business. Every time they make a suggestion, I make sure to put that on my "do not buy" list. And what ever you do, do not take a class there - I took the champagne class - it was terrible. Too bad because the renovation is beautiful. So much less hassle at other liquor stores, it's not worth the stop. To me what determines the quality of a business is how a mishap is handled. Most businesses are five- star when everything goes as planned. What should be tracked however is what happens when something goes sideways. To that end, my large order was missing five items that were likely in another loose packed box. When told them of the mistake the Total Wine & More team stopped what they were doing, (the store was packed at the time,) and worked very quickly to correct the error without a single question. To me, this is a five-star response and the rating that really matters because things do happen; it is what happens afterward that counts. read more

I would like to start this review by saying that I am a happy member at Total Wine but unfortunately today I had a terrible experience at this location. I had a very kind associate help me locate the wine I was looking for, then suddenly another associate Interrupted, reached into my cart took one of the wine bottles and told me I had terrible taste in wine. The low rating is because I somehow got on their mailing list, though I have never purchased anything from them, and have called several times to ask to be taken off the list, and each time I get a BS story that the list is compiled and maintained by some other entity, and they tell me try this, try that-- they give ME homework to try (unsuccessfully ) to get off their list. Ridiculous. When someone calls the number on the postcards they keep sending and requests to be removed, it seems to me that that should be THEIR homework. read more

I will only rate this three stars because of the helpfulness of the one cashier and attendant at the wine tasting booth. I just turned 21 about three weeks ago, and was very nervous to purchase alcohol for the first time. I have never bought it before. The woman, who was (I assume) Asian with long dark hair helped me find the bottle I needed, and as I checked out the cashier with the short brown hair was very nice and wished me a belated. I was very happy, and figured people in this sort of environment were kind. There is one specific employee, however, who I do not like simply for their rude customer service. I understand my license is vertical, and I do not look over 30. I WILLINGLY handed the woman, who has reddish brown hair in a pony tail, my license while telling her this was only my second time purchasing alcohol. She gave me a mean look, and ignored my comment further making me nervous. She called over the manager to verify my license, obviously which was valid, and gave her the same dumbfounded look. He made it obvious I am 21 and it was ridiculous to ask for verification. She did not make eye contact with me that time. Today was my third time. I went in with my little brother because I could not leave him in a parked car at 8 pm, alone for that matter. I asked the woman with the short brown hair to assist me in searching for a bottle yet again. She was very sweet, and seemed not to make a comment in reference to my obvious 14 year old brother. It was until I got to the cashier, who unfortunately was the same woman with the reddish brown hair in a pony tail. Gave me the same look, and this time said, "and who do we have here?" of course, I said he was my brother. I understand policies of underage drinking, rules, etc. However, logic and this woman do not seem to coincide. Based on her behavior, I assumed she thought I was buying alcohol for a 14 year old boy who I said was my little brother. Right! Because a 14 year old male indulges on a bottle of moscato on a Wednesday night? This was absolutely ridiculous. This woman has SEEN me numerous times, knows I'm 21. I understand cashiers see different people everyday. But to ASSUME I was purchasing alcohol for a minor even after saying he was my brother was ridiculous. This woman with the reddish brown hair is condescending, belittling, and quite frankly should not be employed in this sort of customer service. She should seek employment in a facility that busts underage drinkers! I will still be going here as a customer because their alcohol is excellent, and as are the other employees. P.S. if you're thinking about purchasing alcohol for yourself after a long day at university and your full time job and you happen to have your sibling with you, throw them at home first. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had at a liquor store. I showed up at this store, excited about the great craft beer selection they had and after browsing for an hour and making my selection was turned down with two valid government IDs. This place is awesome! It is like a candy store, for adults! If you want something, chances are, they have it here. Over Christmas season, I was looking for a few super obscure items to bring on a ski trip and was able to find them.
