Went into this store to purchase my 3rd bottle of Dom Perignon champagne but I figiured I would call first to make sure they had some since I bought there last bottle 10 days ago. They open at 9: am and I called at 10:30, 10:45 and 12:00. No budy answered the phone after calling 4 times. As I entered the store 2 ladies standing at the reception counter asked how I was. I asked if the had any Dom Perignon and they said they were out of it. I told them I have called 4 times to find out if they had it and noone answered the phone. They looked at me like "O well"sorry. Keep in mind they were about 5 feet from the phone at the reception desk. I guess they thought were not getting paid enought to answer the phone and sell wine. read more

They literally have almost everything you could want in the way of alcoholic beverages. I'm talking beer, wine, and hard liquor by the truck load. Prices are standard-legal. Checkout was quick and easy with 4 lanes being open. There are plenty of people stocking the shelves too, so if you need help, there's always someone available... Just ask. Went in to buy a lions themed koozie and I did not have my license on me because I did not drive. They refused to let me purchase because I didn't have a physical copy of my driver's license even though I was not buying anything with alcohol. Literally just a koozie. I tried showing them a photo of my license and they said they can't sell anything to me. I come here all of the time, just recently spent over $1,000 on champagne for my wedding. If I could give zero stars I would, I recently just went shopping here and had my daughter with me. I was trying to purchase a bottle of wine and the nerd cashier said that both people in the party have to be 21 to buy alcohol. From Toys to Wine; I like it! I enjoy learning about wine and trying new varieties so having this beautiful wine store vs a Toys R Us store nearby is a bonus for this adult. The place is huge, lots of room to move in the isles, very clean with a huge variety of items to explore. In addition to wine, they have liquor, beer, a cigar lounge (humidor), glasses, wine stoppers, peanuts, candy and greeting cards; whew! This building seems to have grown up with me. It was a Toys R' Us and now it's a Total Wine! Tons and tons of options for whatever type of alcohol drinker you are. My wife and I have stopped in here a few times. For large parties, for gifts to give others, or simply to stock up for ourselves. It's overwhelming the first couple times coming in here to say the least. As I said above, there's thousands of options for whatever mood you're in for alcohol. They even have a cigar selection for those who fancy a good cigar too. We've frequented the wine aisles during our trips. There's a lot of wine types to choose from which makes it a bit difficult to land on one you want. However, it helps you try new things, which we have done every time we've been in here. Other aisles we frequent are the rum, beer, vodka and tequila aisles. Lots of options here as well, which is nice because if they're out of stock of a typical Captain Morgan or Tito's, there are plenty of substitutes and again, it helps you try new things with new flavors. It's also a one-stop shop for mixers, as they have a whole aisle or mixers (juices, grenadine & other flavor syrups, some fruits, etc.). Beer has a walk in fridge area or you can buy them right off the rack at room temperature which we prefer so we don't have to stock up our whole fridge with a 24-pack of beer. A lot of different craft beer that you would normally get at a fancier bar, which is really cool for a "classy beer night" or something like that. Their rewards program is nice where you can rack up your rewards on alcohol purchases, which is pretty rare while shopping at many other liquor stores. A rewards program is hard to come by. Even if you aren't part of the rewards program (which is free to join by the way), you may stumble into a random tasting event where they have certain types of alcohol to taste test. Another rarity for an alcohol store, but makes it really cool to experience and try new types of alcohol you may pass up normally. Overall, welcome to the neighborhood Total Wine. I was here when it first opened and walking in with others and browsing the aisles that were similar age to me, it really brought back some great memories of Toys R' Us and how the building is getting a second life. Time is passing us by so quickly, and having something like Total Wine in this building, is a match made in heaven to keep our youth alive while progressing through our adult lives! read more

I am updating my review because they refused to allow me to purchase due to me being a legal guardian to my younger sister. He stated that he knows legally you can, but their store policy doesn't allow it. I had no problems purchasing from this store the past three times with her present. The manager came over and rudely told us the same thing. There were 3 other families with younger children with them as well. I even mentioned to the manager that they allowed her every time and she didn't care. She didn't care that other families in line also had children (one was around the same age as her too). Why would I be buying alcohol for a young minor under the age of 16? No other establishment has had issues with it either. read more

I was looking for a few bottles of different types of liquor and figured this would be a good place to try. Well they have everything imaginably. I shouldn't have gone alone though. It was a bit intimidating for me. I managed to get a bottle of gin, tequila, whiskey, vodka, and rum. Some essentials for cocktails. I wish they had some garnishes of some sort. I love Total Wine & More! I visited a location in Arizona when I lived there and that was my go to spot. I "totally" forgot they existed since Michigan just recently started opening locations. There's a variety of libations to choose from, not just wine. You have your choice of beer, whiskey, vodka, gin, etc. They also carry many accessories needed. During our visit we were given 3 tasting tickets as they have cocktail tasting throughout the store. After seeing all the reviews, I had to check this place out. First, it is a VERY large store with so many options that it can be overwhelming. The prices are very reasonable and it allows me the ability to try something new and cool. The workers are really helpful in finding whatever you're looking for. Or if you're scared of confrontation, use their app- it tells you where everything is. I had no issues with check out. I thought it was quick for a Friday. Booze Heaven. If you're infatuated with alcohol, this place is for you! I enjoyed touring and seeing the massive displays of wine, liquor and beer. It seems the display areas and quantities are in that declining order. When you enter opening display includes bottles of wine priced $100-$300 (out of my league). Considering the busyness of pre holiday shoppers, I didn't make time to see everything in detail. However, imho, offer the following first impression observations. Their wine inventory includes many brands from vineyards beyond my comprehension. We have visited wineries in California's Sonoma and Napa valleys and Oregon's Willamette Valley expanse in some depth, yet there is a big world with additional options out there we respect. Surprises include seeing the highly regarded Loire Valley selection is limited. A positive was locating craft two beers which apparently are in style with younger drinkers (for our soon arriving guests). One from CA, the other Detroit. They were not carried at our two other area's major retailers. Hadn't tried stopping at small specialty party stores to locate. An earlier Yelper commented on long lines. In my experience, TW had all of their cashiers open and got shoppers through expeditiously. Helpers were out amongst the crowds patiently responding to all client's questions. Very admirable. I made an impulse buy on two $60 gift boxes of Journeyman whiskeys, only to find that Meijer's was selling for $40. Total Wine would not budge on giving me a $40 credit for the extra that I spent. All they would say is that Meijer's was selling below the state minimum. Lesson: never trust Total Wine to have the best deal. This place is the Wal-Mart of booze with super selection, interesting layout and knowledgable staff, however there is one major flaw. Super SLOW checkout. There were two registers open with long lines of people burrowing halfway down the aisles. No fast check -out lane either. Why would I wait in line 20+ minutes to save 20 cents on a bottle of wine? Booze prices are pretty much fixed in Michigan so the deals aren't that great. I can go to several local party stores and get same stuff at same price and check out much faster. It's a fun place to visit but in terms of real utility, the romance ended quick for me. I'm not going out of my way for this. read more

It seems the old adage, "no good deed goes unpunished" is true after all. I called this store 9 times over 2 days to let them know someone was trying to defraud them out of over $450 worth of tequila using my credit card number. Someone had placed an online order for in-store pickup using my info but since I live in Los Angeles, I was not going to be picking up tequila in Michigan. I had already cancelled the card and was just trying to do the right thing by calling the store. Every call went to their automated system and eventually cut off. Went in to purchase some flasks as a wedding gift for my mother. I was greeted when I walked in the store, and received help from multiple employees. Waited over 15 minutes in line while there were only 2 lanes open and 20+ employees on the floor. Only to be denied ny purchase of TWO NON-ALCOHOLIC products due to the fact that i couldn't present ID. There was absolutely no signage to indicate that you needed to show ID to purchase anything in the store. When I spoke to the manager he gave me short, unhelpful, and condescending responses.
