Price gouging at it's finest! I stopped in today and asked for the person I had worked with for several years and I was told she no longer worked there. I asked if they had any high end bourbons and the manager told me that they got nothing this fall. He then proceeded to tell me had 1 Weller 12 on the shelf for $250. In the past they would always be reasonably between MSRP and the secondary market. $250 is at least $75 above secondary. It looks like they jumped the shark! read more

Don't order from this place. I placed an online order and received no notification of my order just got told by somebody who works there that the guy that normally does online orders is not here right now but will be back the next day. I called the next day and then got told that they had no idea when he would be back and maybe he will get to the orders this week. I then said can I just cancel my order since I have no confirmation that this is going to go through and then they said they don't know how to cancel it and the guy will be in and will call me when it is and I said can I call back to find out and they said no don't bother not enough people working there over holiday. I have ordered wines from all over the world and was excited to try the wine from this store and was extremely disappointed with the customer service and the lack of knowledge from the people that work there. I came in today to get the Veuve Clicquot Rosé. I wasn't expecting them to have it because I didn't see it on the website, but they did! I ended up going with the Charles Heidsieck rosé because one of the workers recommended that one instead. He was extremely knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. I will definitely return. All the reviews are true. This place rules. The decor of this establishment has that cherry wood wall feeling of a drinking den you've always wanted in your house, but opted for a room filled with video games instead. I want to drink out of a big glass filled with a little bit of scotch whenever I come here. The selection is superb. I don't know beer, but there's a lot of beer here with pretty labels which I hear are good. There's a chilled wine case in the back and a huge selection of liquors. The staff is very nice and non-judgemental when I buy beer that apparently is for women only. It's not open too late, so come early to get your superb drink on. read more

I am starting to get into wine and have really, really enjoyed interacting with Mick and the staff here. Mick is extremely knowledgeable and SUPER helpful. He always has what I'm looking for (when I learn about something new to try) and never hesitates to answer my endless questions and teach me something new. It is a truly wonderful experience each time I stop in. We also were able to go to one of the Friday night wine tasting events and had an absolutely lovely time. It was quaint, well organized, educational and delicious! Mick stayed completely on top of where we were in the tasting list and always explained the wines in a friendly and helpful way. Great customer service!! Called on Friday and asked if they could recommend the best Cabernet-blend they have, as I would like to give it for a wedding gift. Nick made a wonderful recommendation and put it on hold for me until I could get there on Sunday. I rolled up on Sunday and talked to them about their bottle of Louis XIII. They carry the small bottled, which I was told they no longer produce. Since it was for my Dad, I knew it would be a special ($425) gift for him. She even gave me 2 crystal glasses to go with it!! Awesome! Due to the fact I was in from Las Vegas, they even offered to wrap it for me! I was so pleased! Hands down, best service and product around!! My dad was totally surprised and loved the gift! I live in California. My family is in Michigan. I opened an online account with this Michigan business on November 19 so that I could send gifts to my family. My first order was placed on November 19. Immediately after placement, my account showed that the order was processing. However, I received no email confirmation, nor was the gift ever received by my family member. Perhaps I made an error in order placement. So, on December 8 I tried again, very carefully. Later that day my account showed that the order was processing. But once again I received no email confirmation. So I checked again today. My account shows that I have no transaction, no order history. Bottom line, the Red Wagon website does not work. Save yourself the hassle and go someplace else. read more

I absolutely love good beer, and have never found another shop that can compete with Red Wagon in terms of selection, staff knowledge, and price. Despite the fact that they have a collection of some of the most unique specialty imports and high-end craft beers around, the prices are extremely competitive, in many cases lower than other area stores. While Red Wagon is like a candy store for a beer, wine, or liquor snob who walks in knowing exactly what he or she wants, RW also has you covered if you walk in undecided or uneducated about the product. We were looking for Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey. My son and I visited Stranahan's in Denver a few years ago. We really liked the how they craft their Whiskey. It is difficult to find in Michigan. Red Wagon is one of the limited stores that carry Stranahan's. Red Wagon has such a great selection of hard to find beer, wine and whiskey. I used to work as a buyer for a catering hall, and besides kegs, Red Wagon usually supplied us with specialty beers and liquors. The reason I'd recommend Red Wagon to anyone looking into getting some good wine, a great bottle of champagne, or just trying some micro brew beer, is that RW has everything I could think of. This is the reason why we used RW; because if we needed something, we'd find it at RW. And I've reviewed some of the few places in Macomb and Oakland that carry Delerium - Red Wagon is one of them! Beyond that, RW has a wonderful staff that never minds their brains being picked by neo-connoisseurs and the simply curious. If you WANT something nice to drink and don't know, just ask! It's a shame I don't know more about beer because every time I walk in the door of Red Wagon, I am overwhelmed by the gigantic selection of...everything. Beers (domestic, local, imported, and whatever else) just flow off the shelves. This place has opened my eyes to all these unique Michigan beers I didn't even know existed, and probably wouldn't ever know existed unless I drank them at some obscure brewery in Traverse City. To top it off, they have a huge cigar room that I've only look at, but will need to plan a separate trip to fulfill that vice. Honestly, you have to be careful not to get caught up in all this store has to offer and before you know it, an hour has passed, and all the people that needed the booze from you are pissed. Let's start by saying what you probably already know. I like beer. When I am in need of said beer I go to Red Wagon. They stock a really nice selection of craft brew from the US and abroad. I, for some reason or another, gravitate to Michigan made beer and Red Wagon is not short in supply. Founders, Bells, North Peak, etc. Since this is the go to for a lot of people, the rare stuff runs out quick(Bolt Cutter, Black Note) but that is not a huge issue as you can find that stuff elsewhere. The markup isn't drastic but I do have a hard time deeming North Peak Diabolical a 12.99 6 pack. I don't do the wine thing but if you want it they probably have it. Same goes for liquor(which I do enjoy). Come here, spend 30 minutes figuring out how it is you're going to keep your tally under $200, then go home and get shitfaced off the booze you just procured. That's what I do and I'll be damned if I'm going to change. read more

I've been coming here for years. They have a nice selection of hard liquor & beer. The cigar selection is good as well, with a properly functioning humidor. (I've never experienced dried out cigars here.) The last few times I was in, I was told that they have a new buyer for their wine selection. As of summer 2014, the wine aisles have been changed into something myself & the workers who have helped me find confusing. My advice to management is to go back to the old system. If it ain't broke... The rates might be slightly higher than some other places, but the selection, customer service & convenience make that worthwhile. I highly recommend this store. read more

I was next door about to get my hair cut. I needed to take my medicine and it gives me a real dry throat. The man WOULD NOT sell me a single Pepsi because they have a $5 limit on debit cards. I am giving these guys one star for attitude and customer service. I came into town from overseas and I was looking to buy a case of wine that I could check on my flight home. I asked if they had a box I could use so I could bubble wrap my stuff and then check it at the airport. They did not have a regular box but they did find a nicer box with a foam lining. The original man I was working with said he would sell it to me for $15. Then his manager came and said they pay $17 for it so I could buy it for $20. I felt that the fact that they changed the price on me after we discussed the original $15 and we're trying to make a measly $3 profit off a box when I was going to be buying a whole case of wine was ridiculous and showed horrible customer service. I unloaded my cart and bought my case of wine at their competitor. I will be doing this the next time I am stateside as well. I sure hope that the attempt by management to get $3 on a box was well worth the 12 bottles of wine they lost in sales this time and every other time I'm back in Michigan for the next 3 years. Clearly focus is not on the customer at Red Wagon! Oh and the competitor not only found a nice box they threw in for free, they also made some excellent recommendations and helped me carry my case to my car. I'm sure it would have been a $30 charge for any recommendations or assistance with lifting heavy boxes from those kind folks at Red Wagon. No thank you!! read more

They have decent selection, though not a whole lot of top shelf Tequila. 90% of the items I saw here were at least 15% more expensive than what I usually pay at other stores. Some regularly $30 priced liquors were over $40 here. They did have some reasonably priced Triple sec, but the Tequila, Gin, and Cognac's I often buy at liquor stores were way overpriced. Since competitors have significantly lower prices across the board, I find it unlikely that I will return to a Red Wagon store. read more
