He suggested reasonably priced wines that wouldn't break our budget, but are still delicious and would be enjoyed by our guests. We also were able to taste the wines he suggested. We've also been there shopping for wine and find they have a large selection to choose from. They are reasonably priced too. I found some of the wines we bought there priced for more at grocery stores. Another bonus, I love Duplin Wine, most specifically the Orange Blossom and Southern Mist. I can only find them here at total wine. Beer is priced lower here, too. Well, the kind we drink. You will also find good selection of ciders and THC infused drinks. Big variety of everything. This remains a great place for variety and value, and they also have a very knowledgeable staff. I have often purchased my two favorite beers (Modelo and Stella) here in 24 bottle packages for just under $28. At local grocery chains, 24 bottles will run from $32 to $34, and there you are often faced with choosing cold beer, so storage can be an issue! Just recently, I stopped by to pickup some beer, and I wanted some very good margarita mix for the Cinco de Mayo weekend. I ask one of the staff people for suggestions on what would be best. He escorted me to the section where the mix was available, and made several suggestions, indicating that Jose Cuervo mix was his personal favorite. I went with that, picking up a couple of bottles at $9.49 each. The mix was perfecto, and using Jose Cuervo Silver tequila made a perfect match, further enhanced by a glass with a rim well dressed with kosher salt, and squeezing in a nice wedge of fresh lime. What's not to love about this place. The staff are allaying amazingly helpful when making decisions. Love their wine tastings because you learn so much and can tell it's a passion for many of the employees. The selection of wine is off the chain and covers any and all price ranges. We used them for our daughter ls wedding and they were spot on about how many bottles we needed as well as beer. They also have so many wine "accessories" that I love looking through and of course buying a few on each trip. So glad we have a place like this in Winston Salem. read more

Fantastic wide selection of wines and bubbly for any palette. They have samples which is very convenient if you want to try various items prior to purchasing. Asia was so kind to assist us this evening with making a selection. I gave her my preference a of jammy and vanilla forward red and she just happened to have a red that matched that description behind the counter. I tried the Caliveda and it hit the spot! We also tried a few other reds along with a champagne and I ended up purchasing the Caliveda. Everything was well organized and reasonably priced. The true highlight was the customer service, Asia was truly a breath of fresh air after entering multiple other establishments that had staff that appeared miserable and condescending. Very extensive selection of wine! Everything from moscato (definitely not my style) to zinfandel, cab sauv, and Syrah. All types of brands, regions, and price points, from seven bucks a bottle to hundreds of dollars a bottle. Staff is attentive and helpful, and they have staff recommended wine picks, which had led me to try good bottles I might not have tried otherwise. What a layout! What a plethora of suggestions! And, most importantly, what wonderful customer service! From wine to beer, both domestic and imported, this store was a pure delight to discover (being a newbie, myself, to this state and tiny town). My first-ever visit (earlier today) was for, basically, taking on an errand, shopping for another. I was on a mission to stock upon cases of Jamaican beer for a kind brother who runs his own catering company here in Winston. Upon entering the mega-store, I found myself wandering through the many aisles - not lost, but absolutely amazed at the towering inventory! A very helpful and personable female employee guided me to where both the cases of imported beers were kept shelved as well as personally escorted me to their refrigerated cooler. Upon checkout, I was waved down by another friendly female employee who immediately opened her register just to help me avoid the longer line forming in the already-open register beside of her. From the cigar cellar (seen upon entry into the store) to the vast selections of spirits throughout the establishment, I regret not snapping a few photos to show and prove how much this store is a must-see for anyone who hates patronizing the ever-crowded grocery stores, just to bag a bottle, box or case of their chosen drinks. They have a well-organized catalog of wines and beers, and they never fail to offer loads of suggestions in each category. I love that they have European wines divided by country and region (when possible), and their Portuguese/Spanish wines are well stocked and delicious. It is a store full of wine. What isn't there to love here? They have nearly everything you can imagine and something you didn't know existed like a purse that holds wine. No, not a purse that is big enough to put a wine bottle in, an actual purse that carries wine in it. If that doesn't make your heart flutter, are you truly a wine lover? The staff is super helpful in finding items that may be hidden or on the top shelf where I cannot see standing 5'4''. This place is a wino's dream. It is freaking awesome. This is the Best Buy of wines. The wine selection is mind boggling and the prices are hard to beat. Signup online or at the register to get on their email list. About once a month they send out $5 and $10 coupons. You can give them the coupon number from your smartphone so you don't have to print it out. You can also order online and swing by the store and pickup your order. It doesn't get any better than this for us winos. To show I'm not a complete homer, I will complain about the parking lot. The lot can get full on the weekends when people are jamming into the Carrabba's Italian Grill. Plus pulling out onto Stratford road is a pain in the butt. read more

So I shop here quite frequently and am pleased at the layout of the store. I am able to find the type of wine or country of origin very quickly. Plus the majority of the staff seem to be fairly knowledgeable about their product. My review is to tell everyone about Tracy a wine associate that went out of her way to help me on a fairly busy afternoon at her store. I am studying toward becoming a certified sommelier and part of that study requires blind tasting of different wines. Tracy took time out of her busy day to shop for 2 bottles of wine for me, brown bag them so that I wouldn't know what wines they were, and carry them to the register. All to help a customer and total stranger with his studies. She was a very professional employee and assured that Total Wine will keep a customer. read more

It's "OK." Inventory is very good and prices are generally competitive. Here's what keeps this store from being a "5": 1. The employees' product knowledge is highly uneven. Some are really quite competent; others think they are. 2. They will recommend and often try to sell you on "winery direct" wines -- products where the mark-up is much higher and which are often of lower quality. So many could be characterized as "thin." 3. Beware of the little signs proclaiming "[insert name of employee here]'s favorite" near a given wine selection. An employee confirmed that they are required to post them and they are given strong recommendations on what to "like." 4. Do not -- DO NOT -- be misled and think Total's loyalty program is of value. It was once pretty decent -- not now. It takes a lot of purchases before you'll get anything back -- if ever. And the points expire -- relatively quickly. Maybe this change was to fund the owner's next run on the Democratic primary for Congress? Just a guess. But don't make a purchase thinking you'll get anything back from them -- you won't. 5. Check the dates on the beer containers before purchasing. MUCH of it is not fresh. So, we'll continue to shop here -- when there are no reasonable alternatives. It's a "3" -- all the way. read more

Great store location with plenty of parking. A lot of wines and beers to choose from. There's a growler section and I see people getting kegs as well. My husband and I usual stop to get a mixed 6 pack of beers to have with pizza night. They have a great seasonal beer section and also a local NC beer section to choose from. Luckily everyone who works there is super knowledgeable, I literally described the kind of wine I wanted and they recommended some great choices. The price points vary from the really expensive to cheap. They also sell some great wine glasses, the Scott Wiesel brand is my favorite. With the coupons, the glasses are cheaper here than online. I can't believe that I haven't visited Total Wine & More until this past week! I could have been trying so many new things. As the name suggests, they offer much more than wine. Their selection of beer and things alike impressed me most. I have gotten on a Mead kick. If you haven't tried it, you need to. It's an alcoholic beverage with beer like qualities, but is made from fermented honey and water. Mead was rumored to be the beverage of choice during the time of ancient Greece. It is smooth, slightly sweet (depending on the brand), and perfectly delicious. It does have a higher alcohol content than beer, so be careful. I hardly ever see vendors selling mead so I had to ask if they carried it. The gentleman working at Total Wine & More walked me right to the section containing this beautiful beverage. They had several different options to choose from. I loved the one I got, although I cannot remember the name at this point. If you haven't visited Total Wine & More, you need to! They have a huge array of alcoholic beverages and various food items and mixers. I need to make a second trip soon! read more

Amazing selection with some pretty unique finds! We like to make 6-packs of the single beers to try a bunch of new ones without committing to a whole 6-pack at a time. Came in to search for a bottle of red wine. I'm not a wine connoisseur but I've always been fascinated by the "reds". I typically buy moscatos, rieslings and zinfandels, but a merlot would be nice to add to the mix. In comes Don, based on my palate, he recommended a medium-bodied wine that has a soft finish with flavors and aromas of sweet raspberries and plums. And, it happens to be economical. Radius Merlot and a cheese tray.. welcome to the weekend. Thank you Don, I appreciate your service and expertise. Oh and I forgot to mention, along with tastings, Total Wine also has wine and beer classes on a monthly basis. The last wine class for the year is in November. I went to Total Wine on Friday, August 4 around 5 pm to look for a bottle of sherry. I had never tried it, so I was curious. I walked into the store and went straight to the back wall to where the port and Marsala (other fortified wines) are kept, and found several bottles of sherry at several different price levels. I had no idea which one to try, so after staring cluelessly for a few minutes, I walked around looking for some help. I went to the tasting area in the middle of the store, where a female employee was busy assisting a customer. She asked if I needed help. Just then, a tall, middle-aged, bespectacled male employee, whom I assumed was a manager from his shirt and tie, came over to the tasting area and told her that he would help me. Actually, his exact words to her were, "I got this." He didn't acknowledge me directly nor did he ask me what I was looking for. We walked together back to the wall I had just left. I explained that I had never tried sherry, and didn't want to spend a lot of money in case I didn't like it, so I asked him if he could recommend an inexpensive bottle. He immediately reached for the top shelf and suggested the most expensive bottle on the shelf (about $25), claiming that it was "the best", and that I would not regret spending the money. I hesitated, and asked if he could recommend something a little cheaper. I could tell he was getting annoyed with me, so he waved his hand at some bottles on the lower shelves. Then I asked him to explain the difference between golden, dry, and cream sherries. He did so, but seemed to get more annoyed by the minute. At this point, I just wanted him to go away, since it was obvious that he had more important things to do than to help paying customers, so I thanked him and he left. Eventually, I selected a mid-priced bottle of cream sherry, paid for it and left. I give this review 3 stars because while Total Wine does have a vast selection and amazing prices, this experience has shown me that their customer service, or at least the customer service skills of this particular employee, leaves much to be desired. At the time, I didn't have the foresight to get this person's name. He may very well have been the most knowledgeable person in the store when it came to wine, but it was obvious that he was only interested in selling me the most expensive bottle, and not actually taking the time to listen to me to help me get what I wanted. I may go back to this store, but I will NOT ask that manager for help again! read more

This total wine carries a decent selection of wines! However what I find disheartening is the customer service that you receive. I frequent the store once or twice a week and there are one or two cashiers to do very well with customer service however most are borderline rude to the customer and if you ask for something as simple as double bagging your wine they take offense! Moreover I find more of the rules in the exception that the help that you get on the floor in selecting a wine and this is more overhearing these employees working with other customers as I don't require their help, but it seems that The employee tends to push their own agenda on the customers especially those who are not familiar with wine at all. Just tonight I overheard one of the ladies who works there talking with a customer in a rather condescending way when all this lady was asking about was the differences between sweet wines and not so sweet wines. If I had more choices of shopping for good wines at a decent price I would definitelynot frequent this total wine store in Winston Salem! It's most redeeming quality are the prices. read more

When I had trouble making a decision on the reds, he let me taste to show me the difference. He actually acted like he enjoyed working with me, which made my visit all the more pleasant!
