Weathervane Winery has been a favorite of mine for years. I grew up in the area and their wine was a staple in my college days. I still have a soft spot for Blue Norther and Rooster Black! Post-grad, I found myself there often with family and friends, particularly at their Friday "Wine-downs," featuring live music and wine slushies that the whole community loved. I hope they make a comeback! We have had Weathervane at wine festivals, but we recently decided to stop by their winery after a hike. We did a wine tasting of the sweet wines available: *Placid Peach - this is the one that I remembered and liked. Not my favorite peach wine as I like a little stronger peach flavor, but still a good one. *Rooster Red - an okay wine, did not get much of the intended cranberry flavor. *Strawberry Breeze - thought this was a very good strawberry wine. *Rooster Black - this was very good! Good blackberry flavor. *Tropical Wave - their summer seasonal wine. It was okay. After we did the tasting, we got a glass of their Placid Peach and Rooster Black and enjoyed them on the patio. I really ended up liking Rooster Black the best. My only critiques are because of my own personal preferences. I have really come to like wineries that offer flights. Going to a winery really allows you to enjoy multiple wines rather than having a full glass or bottle of just one wine like you would at home. It's unfortunate that Weathervane does not offer flights. I would also love a wine slushy on a hot day, and it was not offered here. CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! YOU WONT REGRET IT! This place is amazing! Our wine guide was so pleasant and informative. Even though we tasted the fruity wine selection, since I love red wine she, allowed us to try a red wine from the dry list. I can honestly say that EVERY. SINGLE. wine on the list is absolutely delicious! We ended up purchasing 2 bottles, (Apple, & rooster black) and two insulated stemless wine glasses with matte finish. We went on a cooler day so it was perfect for wine sampling! The vineyard is large and most certainly picture perfect! Beautiful place!! WE WILL BE RETURNING! Bottles are moderately priced and well worth every dollar! They also rent the spaces out for gathering, the day we went there was a baby shower going on. They also have cheese, crackers and hummus for purchasing with your wine. We stayed about an 2 hours, and sat at a high top table near the vineyard. Beautiful cozy place and good people! It was a sunny spring day to enjoy this small winery near Lexington. If you like sweet reds or white wines, you will be in the right place! There is a good Pinot Grigio called white table wine that is enjoyable. To get a tasting or buy a bottle remember to bring along your mask in the tasting rm. Outside there is ample space to sit in the gazebo near the vines or on the patio to listen to live music. We enjoyed the music on a Sunday from 2pm to 4pm. A nice place for a picnic or vendor food while enjoying nature, wine and good music. This is a pet friendly venue. Come visit for a peaceful time! My go to vineyard in NC. Everything about this place is a must see. The owner is incredibly friendly, the staff is great, the wine is delicious and the surroundings are beautiful. I buy a lot of NC wine, but Weathervane is always in my wine racks. What really impresses me is that both their dry and sweet wines are on point. And there seasonal wines like the Green Apple Dew, are flawless. read more

I really enjoy small wineries and this place is no exception. It is hidden away and you have to know where you are going in order to find it. In other words, there is a sign on the highway...but after that not so much. They have 2 buildings and the day I went, they were having a craft venue in one and wine tasting in the other. It was pretty cool. The wine tasting area had tables to sit and drink some wine. The staff was nice. This was my first time here and they were very accommodating. A lot of the wine is sweet, with some exceptions. I prefer a more dry wine. They had a Christmas special with some mulling spices, which I bought. It was delicious served hot. I always pass by here. What you need to know: Make sure you check-in for a BOGO on wine tastings! Having lived in Winston-Salem for two summers, I always wanted to try the variety of wineries around the area, and finally got the chance to do so. Weathervane represents what you would typically see from a winery. Wine tasting: The tasting was quick but very thorough as our person gave us his best with all the background of each wine and what went into each batch. I went with the reds while my friend went with the sweets. He gave us an additional tasting of some of the seasonal wines as well which was a nice touch. At $7.50 a pop ($7.50 total with the Yelp BOGO), you really cannot beat this tasting for the price. Wines: While there were one or two I wasn't a fan of, the majority of their wines were amazing. I can definitely see why people have Weathervane wines shipped all around the country! For those who like a full bodies red, try the Temperature Rising! It was phenomenal! Ambience: The inside is more of a gift shop with a bar. They have all sorts of wine-related products around from clothes to magnets and everything in between! Wish they had a more comfy space where they do the tastings, but it was still fun to browse. Overall if I'm ever in the area again, Weathervane will definitely be a stop to keep coming back to! Cute little winery. I love their wines as well. I've tasted their wines before because of the NC wine festivals. They have sweet fruity wines as well as some dries. They have a little everything for everyone. My boyfriend and I came here just to get out and about on a little afternoon date, It's not too far from Winston. Everyone there is very very welcome and nice! If you have any questions about the winery or wines, they are more than happy to help, they are very knowledgeable. So never hesitate to ask them any questions. Now I've been to this winery a couple times years ago so this was the first thought in my mind when we wanted to find something to do! Their tastings are cheap! $7 (you can keep your tasting glass as well!!) for about 6 wines and if you want you can do either the fruity wines or the dry or do what we did and try both! I'm not a dry wine person, I enjoy a good Red wine or Red blend. But their wines are delicious. They have a wine slush that's AMAZING! The outdoor area is also really nice. There is a spot that is inside where you an drink your wine eat snacks and listen to live music. It's really a good time. Mask are required when you enter, but seating outside and tasting the wine of course no masks are needed. They have a lot of rocking chairs outside as well for you to sit and sip. This was my first winery I have ever been to! It is located in a rural area which was nice. The drive was peaceful and it's a warm day so it was so relaxing to have the windows down listening to the Khalid Pandora station. The winery is right off the road and not hard to find. Parking was easy and the place was clean and pretty. Upon entering the the building, we were immediately greeted by an elder gentlemnan who got us started on our tasting. $7.50 each is a great price. I prefer sweet wines while my friend prefers dry. We tested 7 and of them, we each disliked at least one but all the others were good. We did get glasses of Temperature Rising and Placid Peach, and they selll boarshead meats, cheeses, and chocolate almonds. Along with some tastey non-fancy crackers. They also sell wine-themed home decor. We took our wine and food outside. Today was warmer compared to the last few days and it felt so good to relax outside. The set up for the patio we sat one was nice, I can only imagine what it'll look like when the plants grow on it again in the warmer season. They also a gazebo. Sweet wines and Sweet employees are what Weathervane Winery are about! I recently went to a very fun birthday party here and the staff made sure everyone had that they needed. It was so awesome. I arrived late in from out of town so they were putting the food away as I got there. A very sweet girl saw me come in and took me back to the kitchen right away. She made me a plate and made sure I had what I needed. This was a lifesaver! I had been on the road for hours and hadn't eaten. The food was great! I did try the wine. I am not a fan of sweet wine so I didn't drink a glass. I did taste several and they were very good, I just couldn't drink a whole glass. Here are a million plus one wineries around and less than half of them are any good. At least that's my opinion. Weathervane is a good one and here is why. The wine is good and considering the abundance of styles and possibilities that is saying something. The grounds are nice. There are nicer and more picturesque but Weathervane is nice and easily accessible to the piedmont triad area. The bar is laid out nicely and the staff have always been great. They throw excellent lawn parties with live music too. Well worth visiting and returning to! read more

Ummm I am in love!! After seeing the reviews on Yelp that this place is a great spot for sweet wine lovers I knew I had to make it in eventually. Andrea P invited me to go over for their chicken stew customer appreciation day so I thought heck yes! The bf and I did a tasting of the sweet wines for $7 each and well we loved almost every single one. The ones that we didn't really care for we didn't hate, there were just so many other delicious options. We ended up buying a Placid Peach, Blue Norther, and the Green Apple Dew They have a great area outside to sit and relax with your wine in the warmer weather. We were there in October and it was perfect. They have a stage where they have bands perform and I think they have specific events on Fridays in the summer that look like a lot of fun. Such a cute winery with a wrap around patio and a courtyard so that there is plenty of outside seating so that you can still social distance while being outside. We went on a sunday when they had live music and it was just such a great time. We've been members for years. 3 years ago we moved to Michigan and every time we came back to visit this was the first place we'd stop to stock up our wine. I have been a coming to Weathervane Winery wine club member for 7 years. I have had the opportunity to tour a lot of wineries in North Carolina and other states. Which none compare to Weathervane Winery. I planned my wedding there on September 15th of this year because I could not think of anywhere else I would rather have one of the most important events in the life. Due to Hurricane Florence I had to reschedule my wedding for December. That was a very difficult decision but when I called the staff was so friendly and helpful they always make you feel like family. This is my FAVORITE NC winery. The fruit wines cannot be beat: My favorites include Sweet Mountain Bliss (ice cold), Rooster Black and Nor'easter. They also have fantastic seasonal wines like Green Apple Dew, Pomegranate and Strawberry. They also offer a selection of dry white and red wines. Try a glass of 1/2 Bliss and 1/2 Rooster Black- it's to die for and it's the winemaker Sid's wife personal concoction! Wine Tastings are $5.00 per person. This is for 8 dry wines or 8 fruit wines. You keep the glass-WOW!! This is an unpretentious winery- perfect for new wine drinkers. It is small but the tasting room is very cheery and comfortable and they have outside tables for sitting and enjoying your wine. They will soon be selling cheese and crackers as well I believe. Check their website for dates for Friday's Boogie Nights, Cooking events, etc. If they are at a local wine festival you can't miss them- they WILL be the winery with the biggest crowd! read more

Our now daughter-in-law fell in love with this winery at a local wine tasting event in Raleigh. We decided we'd serve Weathervane Wine at the Meet & Greet and Rehearsal dinner. This is a smaller winery in the Lexington area, but it's full of charm. We went last weekend for a visit...they have tastings for $5 and I think it included 6 or 7 wines. You also can buy a bottle and stay to drink it. It was a little chilly when we were there, but I imagine it would be really fun to sit outside and sip away! It looked like other people brought rations, so I think they are "picnic friendly" if you're that organized! A group of us were looking for a central location to have a picnic near Winston Salem, NC. We knew there were several wineries in the area but were unsure of which ones allowed picnic. Someone in my office recommended Weathervane Winery. I called to confirm the details of our visit and decided immediately that this winery would be a great place for our use. The gentleman on the phone was friendly and informative. We all met at the winery on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Remarkably, there was a delightful covered area for us to use to picnic that was just off the tasting room. We all selected our wine for lunch and proceeded to have lunch serenaded by live music.
