As previous director I was surprised this facility is open. I asked myself how many complaints and investigations does this place have to have in order for the state to shut them down. This place has roaches everywhere and dust on every wall. Raj is a liar and he and his wife ONLY WANT MONEY. They do NOT CARE ABOUT CHILDREN'S safety not well being. He tried to fraudulently collect money from child Carr resources for my older son that was not going to attend until summer camp. This place needs to be shut down. Teachers arguing and throwing up in front of kids. Diapers being changed in front of the classroom. Students with special needs are being strapped in high chairs. The department of licensing should be sued for allowing this type of practice to run and collect state funding. After notifying Raj that I was extremely ill from working there and unable to come in on the following Monday, he never replied and removed me from Tadpoles and told employees that I was "different" and might not last. Toured Totsville, along with other daycares in the area, and decided to go with them for part time daycare for my son. They gave a good first impression. The first day my son started, I realized I made a big mistake. The bad: the place is dirty, teachers smoking in the parking lot, teachers aren't nice to the kids, they lost my son's spare clothes and sippy cup, teachers change diapers in the back corner of the classroom while the child is standing on the ground (no changing table, no bathroom, not sterile or clean at all!!), babies left crying in their cribs with no attention or interaction, infant room is tiny too with hardly any toys, teachers not properly trained The good: my son's lead teacher was pretty nice read more

I admire the nurturing nature of Totsville teachers. Every time I visit, I notice that the teachers are courteous and the children are really having great time learning and socializing. It's a great environment for parents who never had children in a daycare before, as well as, perfect for children who are unhappy at other centers in the area. From the outside it looks like a nice place, inside it seems nice as well. Problem being is that the owner, says things that aren't true or basically stretches the truth about the location, which is unacceptable. We were very close to bringing our child there, so close in fact that we had the paperwork filled out and ready to bring it over. There was one issue, the owner told us " all meals are provided by the school". We thought " how great is that", also all diaper and wipes were provided as well. This is definitely not the case and when you tell people that meals are provided by the school, you should mention that that only applies if you are accepted by the state run program for low income house holds. My wife noticed that it was the same paperwork that is filled out by her students parents in low income families. Again, be straight forward, don't stretch the truth, not everyone is getting free meals and you shouldn't advertise it in person as such. Now we never went and figured out about the diapers and wipes but if you can't be dead honest with me about something before we start going there, then how honest will you be with us afterward. read more

As a first-time aunt and a teacher who has worked in Daycare centers before, I knew exactly what my niece needed. There were specific things that I was looking for in a childcare center. Totsville exceeded all of my expectations. Oh, and did I mention it was very clean? My lovely niece has been there since she was 8 months old and now, she always jumps out of my arms to embrace Miss Tammy every morning. the entire team has made my life much easier, and I have always felt secure knowing that my Angel is in loving hands in a safe environment. This is by far the worst place to send your child. The owner Raj does not have your child's best interest at heart. He is only concerned about money and not the safety of your child. My child has come home everyday with scratches and bruises and no one seems to know why. They feed the children old food and the place smells really bad. Children are left unsupervised and when u bring these concepts to him he will not even meet with you or discuss your concerns over the phone. Totsville Is Very Convenient Place For Me Because Even Though I Have Help From The State I Don't Have To Pay A CoPay Which Helps Me Out TONS ! WOW, One word describes it all. I took my child out of another center in Union Beach that was infested with rodents and had a fire last week. The way other daycare handled these situations was not upto par and I made the switch to Totsville right away. Should have done it earlier. BEWARE! My child has attended this school, there are way too many issues here. Building code issues, excessive heat, child/teacher ratio is over, they allow sick children in, they take on other school aged children & put them amongst the classes which causes a distraction for the kids, teachers leave cause issues with owner. Dyfus is always there for issues! The teachers are ALL great, the issues are with management! Please really do your homework before sending you child here. When I toured Totsville while looking for a preschool for my, at the time, 3 yr old, I finally felt at ease because the school seemed to have a good curriculum, the staff seemed nice, the Director seemed to really care and be running a "tight ship"... FAST FORWARD TO PRESENT --- My son is now 4 years old and he will NEVER step foot in the TOTSVILLE PROGRAM AGAIN! When my son was in the 3 yr old room, there were times that he would come home and tell me that another kid hit him, I'd call them and ask why I was being told about this from my 3 yr old and not his teacher and they said well it didn't leave a mark (OK fine I would think), another time I dropped him off and they had older kids from the public school in his 3 yr old room because public school was that day (MY SON WAS PUMMELED and I ENDED UP HAVING TO PICK HIM UP EARLY THAT DAY BECAUSE HE WOULDNT STOP CRYING), another time I dropped him off to his class and his teacher (one that I never met before because the 3 yr old room was a revolving door of teachers aides) was on a personal call on her CELL PHONE! I reported these issues to the director and he always seemed to "try" to correct the issues. When I was finally ready to pull my son, they moved him up to the 4 yr old room because they said he was a "mature" 3 and was about to turn 4. The only reason my son stayed after that was because he formed a great relationship with the ONLY GOOD TEACHER THEY HAD THERE (He is no longer there because of all the issues I am about to tell you) --- I heard from many sources over this past summer (my son was on summer break) that there was ratio issues, a maintenance person covering a classroom when they were short staffed, and staff members FIGHTING in front of children!!!! I called to talk to the DIRECTOR and he blew smoke up my you know what saying that was just disgruntled parents/staff telling me these things! I called the STATE (THIS IS PUBLIC RECORD PLEASE KNOW YOU CAN CALL THE STATE AND ASK FOR A FILE REVIEW ON ANY DAY CARE/PRESCHOOL IN NJ) and they gave me citations dating back to 2011 that were all substantiated which included: Administrative issues (bookkeeping/record keeping), program issues (curriculum issues), supervision issues, ratio issues (too many kids to each teacher), over use of facility (too many kids in the building PERIOD), over discipline of students (Feb 2015/April 2015 - staff put her hands on a child and threw them to the ground - screaming at children loudly), nutrition issues, rest issues, hygiene issues in the infant room, every possible category they could have been cited for THEY WERE! O wait no I am wrong, they were not CITED on BUILDING MAINTENACE, isn't that nice? I actually thought I was being "PUNKED" when I was talking with a SUPERVISOR FROM THE STATE ABOUT THIS SCHOOL and she validated that I made the right decision on pulling my son!!! NO PARENT SHOULD SEND THEIR CHILD TO TOTSVILLE AND IN MY OPINION THEIR DOORS SHOULD CLOSE FOR GOOD! read more

If I could give them negative stars, I would certainly do it. My child was part of this program for about 7 months. 7 loooong months for my son who every day didn't want to go to school. I chalked it up to being a kid who was used to being home with his mom and doing things at his leisure. I couldn't have been more wrong. Lets start off with this, there were parents fighting in the parking lot, fist fighting, not yelling or just having words. I kept my son in the car while this was happening and because it really had nothing to do with "the school" and once the parents left, we proceeded as normal. On more than one occasion there were kids hitting each other, shoving each other, cussing out the teachers etc. When the teachers presented this to the parent(s) involved they shrugged it off and said "they're typical kids". I don't know about you, but my child doesn't treat any child or adult this way and if he did, it would have been handled immediately. Now that this preface is off my chest I will get on to what happened to me and my child directly. Without naming names I will tell you that the only reason my son was in this school for 7months was because his teacher took him under his wing and ensured me of my son's safety on a regular basis, however the days that this teacher was not in school, all hell broke loose. The turnover rate with the teachers is absolutely ridiculous, it says a lot about the ownership if they cannot keep staff past a few months or a year. The teacher / student ratio is way off and way above what the state recommends. In fact Totsville has been audited by the state on this very incident on more than one occasion. It took them over two years to re up their certifications for this reason among many other including hygiene, food programs etc. This is all public knowledge. Call the state. Most recently my child was pulled out because 1. two teachers had a fist fight in the middle of the classroom. Nothing was done to either teacher. They were both still employed until one of them left at her own will and to my understanding the other got a promotion. Thankfully my child was not there the day of this incident. 2. the ratios are way off and especially in the summer time when they run camp. They do not hire additional staff to keep these children company; they expect their already outnumbered teachers to keep these children busy. In fact, the big kids (8-10) were in my 4 year olds classroom on more than one occasion. 3. The last straw (God I can't believe I let it go this far) One afternoon my husband picked my son up and a man was watching over the class. He chalked it up to "just another new teacher". Second day in a row, my husband introduced himself to the man who then in turn told him his was not a teacher, he was "helping out" and he was the maintenance guy. WHAAAAAAAAAT???!!!!!!! This raises sooooo many questions, issues and concerns for me as a parent for my child but as a parent in general. Has a background check been performed on this man? Has he been finger printed? Is he a certified teacher? Is he CPR certified? All of which I was told NO by the owner. He is just a good man, a family friend that they have known for years. WHAAAT??? You are kidding me. Every issue I brought up he had a really lame excuse for. I immediately called the state to investigate and they have been out there more than a few times to issue citations and for surprise inspections within the last few weeks. I will not stop here, I will make sure this place closes down based on FACTS. Parents BEWARE and do your research on daycares. This is not the place for any child to be. If I could give a 0 I would this place sucks, very unprofessional, staff is terrible, as I am a step brother of a child who was enrolled in this. There are very young 18/19 year olds who work there He will hire anyone just to fire them a week later. Now he will make a straight few take a drug test, hes very rude, doesn't care about the kids and only wants money money money. The state is always being called on him/ them as void this place pay the extra money and have stability for your child. There is this girl named Tammy who works there, she swipes kids that are on child care from the state saying they are in school when they aren't. They do not serve the kids state food that are on the plans and just have two who are drug addicts like this is not a place anyone I think would want their child to go! Tammy O Brien lies to the state when the state does come to check on the daycare. The kitchen is filthy she has everyone washing dishes in their rooms and their is never cleaning supplies. First I have to say every school has its pro and cons. Totsville has the same also. My son goes here he loves it he is learning so much everyday. The first day he went to the school when he was around 1 and a half, the teachers made him feel right at home. Then just a couple months after that each teacher he had left and his class. When he became 2 his class was in the hallway divided by a portable blue divider. The teachers that taught his class once again left week by week. I wonder what was going on here. But now that my son is in the 3 year old room he is doing so well I couldnt take him out. But as for some others posters yes the teacher to child ratio is not right way over crowded, the play ground in the front on the main road should be moved. I do think there is some type of problem there and they are trying to resolve it. But a play ground on a major road everyone should step up for the childs well being. Saying dyfus is there all the time hope you got proof to back it up I have never heard of it. But all in all most teachers do a great job some not so great especially communicating with the parents. Totsville lands right in the middle not the greatest but not the worst. read more
