It's hard to recommend Touch Chi too highly. Rick and Troy provide top-flight body work, the kind you'd expect to find in a big city. They're booked well in advance, but be persistent: they do have cancellations and might be able to slide you in if you can be flexible. I see Rick, as does my wife, though I've heard Troy is excellent, too. (It was the luck of the draw for me, but I can say that Rick is a truly gifted bodyworker--and I speak as someone who's had a wide range of massage, cranial-sacral, Hellerwork, and other types of bodywork.) This is therapeutic bodywork, the kind that helps to deal with chronic physical issues. Rick has really helped me with the chronic tension in my shoulders, as he has helped my wife deal with a nagging back problem; it's really improved since she's been under his care. A caveat: if you're looking for nice, light massage, look elsewhere. What should you expect? Informed, careful, attention to what you need physically. Are your shoulders bothering you? They'll be worked on, but so will other muscles on your back, chest, and arms that are connected to your shoulders and may, in fact, be the real problem. I've had Rick work on releasing tension in my leg, to realize that my problem knee was much less bothersome. In short, the best you'll find anywhere. I travel for work and have landed in the middle of New Hampshire, right on the Vermont border, for a long-term project. Beyond finding the gym, passable restaurants, and the bookstore, I also try to find good local massage businesses which isn't always easy. TouchChi came up on a Google search of the area and came highly recommended from the local service proprietors. I had hoped to be able to slide in an appointment at the last minute but found that TouchChi's service and reputation is pretty phenomenal which means they are booked out quite some time in advance. I was finally able to get some time in and had a great 60-minute session with one of the two owners. The space is in a renovated freight building and is clean, minimal, and linear. Troy greeted me as I came in, got me oriented to the space and we were able to get the massage started right away. I found him personable, extremely knowledgeable, and efficient. He made conversation when prompted but was not overwhelming or dominating when silence seemed to be more appropriate. He explained the kind of work he was doing and what he was finding as he progressed through the massage. I was interested in deep tissue work and he accommodated that along with some great forced stretches which worked together very well. I was completely satisfied with my massage session and all the pieces that went into it, including the discounted rate for first-time clients. I'm looking forward to scheduling my next appointment during the rest of my stay in the area. Highly recommended. read more

I can't recommend Touch Chi enough. I have worked with both Rick and Troy, and they are just wonderfully gifted at helping to identify and relieve areas of pain and tightness with their masterful touch. They have a terrific grasp of anatomny and of how to use the best technique to cure what is ailing you. I've seen them for nagging lower back/medial glute pain from running, as well as neck/shoulder issues that have lingered from a car accident. In all cases, they are able to give me the relief I need as well as coaching and suggestions on self-massage and stretches that can help me work thru my issues. Rick and Troy thrive on helping people with imbalances and issues that are troubling and giving you the relief you need. I'm sure they can give an all over body massage, but I think they really enjoy being able to give releif to specific issues that plague bodies. read more

Booked myself an appointment with Troy for the first time as a birthday present to myself. I was staying at Killington for the weekend but figured it would only be a short drive in Vermont terms! Troy was very consultative to start, asking me about what I do day to day, what problem areas I have encountered, and what I do to counter act that. Once he got started, he was quick to identify my problem areas, and he spent extra time and attention on a recent neck strain that I've been unable to resolve. I am not a connoisseur of massage by any stretch, but Troy's approach was unlike any I have experienced before - much more holistic than expected. I truly felt like he would only be satisfied if I left feeling renewed; I certainly did! I left feeling like a million bucks - I now find myself looking for any excuse to head back to White River Junction even though I live just outside of Boston! I happened to be in the Hanover/White River Junction area and snagged a last minute appointment with Troy. I've had body work done many times from many different people all over the country. It's hard to find a great massage therapist. Troy was awesome. I used to judge a massage therapy session by how much it "hurt" (a good thing) during it. Now, I judge it by how much better I feel AFTER it. I felt great during the session with Troy and I feel MUCH MUCH better now. He's cool and friendly and knowledgeable and took his time. Had to be in VT for business a few weeks ago and wanted to schedule a massage - found TouchChi and contacted them. At first, there was nothing available, but then an appointment came available and worked out perfectly. Had Troy work on me, particularly my legs - the IT band is tight and gives me a great deal of discomfort, stemming from a knee injury about ten months ago. Troy is very intuitive and immediately set me at ease and began working on me, with a good level of intensity. I chose to have a 90 minute appointment and wish I had the time for two hours! Troy was fantastic and I will definitely contact him again, when I am planning to be in the area.
