From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Becky, whose kindness and pleasant demeanor immediately set the tone for a relaxing visit. I booked a 90-minute massage with Ashley and a 70-minute facial with Summer, and I can confidently say both services were outstanding. I suffer from severe lower back pain, and without me even needing to explain in detail, Ashley intuitively knew how to release my piriformis -- something not many massage therapists pick up on without prompting. I live in California and regularly get massages and physical therapy, and yet I was truly blown away by Ashley's skill and professionalism. In fact, I was so impressed that I tried to book a second session before heading back to CA. From now on, every trip to New Hampshire will include a massage with Ashley -- that's non-negotiable. My facial with Summer was just as exceptional. She is not only incredibly joyful and warm but also highly knowledgeable. The facial was wonderfully relaxing -- minimal talking, which I personally prefer in a spa setting -- and the anti-aging products she used left my skin feeling absolutely luscious. I only get facials a couple of times a year, but I'll be timing them now to coincide with my visits to NH just so I can book with Summer again. The only thing I wish they had was a jacuzzi for soaking before or after treatments -- but even without it, this spa earns a solid 10/10 in my book. I ended up needing to cover a coworker in Seabrook NH that day so I called tranquility two days in advance and said I can't make my appt because of work. They said no problem, it's cancelled, you're all set. A few months later I scheduled an appt again. I went in and had my massage. The lady at the counter took my gift card and gave me a receipt and I went on my way. I got a phone call about an hour later saying that I owe $60 because when I "didn't show for my last appt they took money off of my gift card automatically." I said I called and cancelled a few days before, she said I'm sorry they already took it off, it needs to be paid. I then went to voice my concerns to the manager and she said I needed to pay or they'll have to take other measures. I was extremely bummed and did not expect to be treated this way. If someone cancelled multiple times without enough notice I'd understand taking their money but I cancelled ahead of time and only cancelled once. That's the other thing, they didn't even tell me they took $60 off my card. If I had known that in advance, I wouldn't have gone. If you can find a different spa, I would.

Julie Bean was my massage therapist for a 50minute massage. I have never felt better coming out of the massage. I slept like a charm and the next day of training I felt so relaxed. My performance was much easier to achieve thanks to her massage. When my muscles get tight from working too hard (and especially in sweep rowing, working too hard on one side), they get tight and tense, making it a lot more challenging to row correctly and efficiently. I could row and move so much more fluidly after the massage. Thanks to my training I've seen a good number of massage therapists across the country (including at the Olympic Training Center), and I was SHOCKED how AMAZING I felt after Julie's work. The upside is that the shop has gel color that matches regular nail polish colors so one's manicure and pedicure can match. That's a major plus. The shop also does brows. That's great for this area. Janet has a nice looking shop but two ill behaved dogs that tear up magazines, jump on customers with wet nails, and escape from the shop to have other people have to come out and chase them down. On my last visit I actually had to help wrangle a dog in the street with wet toes while the owner did nothing. I got my gel mani redone today again and again she filed down my nails again, ruining their length when I ask her not too. The gel is messily done and looks like plain nail polish. She was hasty, not paying attention and my nails look like I did them at home. I am so disappointed with the job she did. I wanted to support a local business but from now on will go back to either Nefertiti Nails or NGL. The Upper Valley doesn't have many options but this just isn't a good choice.

They're booked well in advance, but be persistent: they do have cancellations and might be able to slide you in if you can be flexible. I see Rick, as does my wife, though I've heard Troy is excellent, too. (It was the luck of the draw for me, but I can say that Rick is a truly gifted bodyworker--and I speak as someone who's had a wide range of massage, cranial-sacral, Hellerwork, and other types of bodywork.) This is therapeutic bodywork, the kind that helps to deal with chronic physical issues. Rick has really helped me with the chronic tension in my shoulders, as he has helped my wife deal with a nagging back problem; it's really improved since she's been under his care. A caveat: if you're looking for nice, light massage, look elsewhere. What should you expect? Informed, careful, attention to what you need physically. Are your shoulders bothering you? They'll be worked on, but so will other muscles on your back, chest, and arms that are connected to your shoulders and may, in fact, be the real problem. I've had Rick work on releasing tension in my leg, to realize that my problem knee was much less bothersome. In short, the best you'll find anywhere. We're lucky to have Touch Chi in the Upper Valley.

TouchChi came up on a Google search of the area and came highly recommended from the local service proprietors. I had hoped to be able to slide in an appointment at the last minute but found that TouchChi's service and reputation is pretty phenomenal which means they are booked out quite some time in advance. I was finally able to get some time in and had a great 60-minute session with one of the two owners. The space is in a renovated freight building and is clean, minimal, and linear. Troy greeted me as I came in, got me oriented to the space and we were able to get the massage started right away. I found him personable, extremely knowledgeable, and efficient. He made conversation when prompted but was not overwhelming or dominating when silence seemed to be more appropriate. He explained the kind of work he was doing and what he was finding as he progressed through the massage. I was interested in deep tissue work and he accommodated that along with some great forced stretches which worked together very well. I was completely satisfied with my massage session and all the pieces that went into it, including the discounted rate for first-time clients. I'm looking forward to scheduling my next appointment during the rest of my stay in the area. Highly recommended.
