While this isn't billed as a tour, the ship's captain was kind enough to narrate the landmarks (including each owner of the the vast row of yachts docked nearby!) that we were passing as well as each of the stops and what adventures could be had there. She was really entertaining and kind, as she also helped with several lost travelers standing at one of the stations. It was a smooth ride on a sunny day and the views were absolutely gorgeous. FYI, there are no amenities on board, so no concession stand or washrooms, although the ride roundtrip is only around 40 minutes -you don't really need it to begin with.

Very convenient AquaBus ride from Granville Island straight over to Yaletown, spending some time walking around and hanging out there, and then coming back to Granville Island for the rest of the day. It's such a short and sweet ride, but you still get to enjoy beautiful views of False Creek along the way. Another favourite is taking it over toward Science World and making a whole afternoon out of it. You can visit Science World, walk around False Creek and then head back to Granville Island. It's also really pretty at night when all the lights and signs are reflecting on the water. After spending a long day at Granville Island, hopping on the boat and just enjoying the ride is such an easy way to end the day. And the best part is that it's cheap! For the price, it's such a fun little Vancouver experience and something I keep coming back to and always making sure to have my out of town guests join in as well!

It's pretty hard to tell which direction the ferry is going next though unless you're very familiar with the routes, so make sure you ask the driver just in case. I find that the ones I've interacted with all ask you where you're going before letting you on, so at least I haven't taken the wrong boat yet. They have a zone system for ticketing and at first it was a bit confusing for which zone ticket was needed to go where. But they have nice maps at each stop so it wasn't too hard to decipher after awhile. The boat drivers were also pretty nice and were happy to answer questions about tickets. I took the boats during the Big Picnic event at David Lam park. There were other people on the boat but it was not crowded at all. Boats also came all the time and so we didn't have to wait much before ours came. The boat doors were left open when I rode the boats and so it was really nice to be able to take pictures and videos without obstruction from the windows or clear screens. The creek is relatively calm most of the time and the rides are short, so most people probably won't get sea sick.

Considering how short the rides are, you dont really have to plan much. You can hop on hop off as you feel like. The boats are small, so there is never really much of a waiting time for docking or embarkation. Like a city bus but on water. Must try.

I wanted to show three out-of-town guests the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and learn about the rich history of Chinatown with an authoritative guide. I booked a 2.5-hr tour for the four of us at $100 each under the impression that we were a private group but we were joined by three other clients. So, after introductions, we were sent unguided around the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden armed with only the Garden's brochure and Judy's advice that we would find "interesting stones and plants from China". After 30 minutes of wandering it became apparent that Judy knew little about the architecture and symbolism of the Garden despite claiming to have been a docent. We walked on to a contemporary coffee shop where another 30 minutes were spent viewing an iPad presentation on Judy's multicultural family history and Chinatowns of the world. The remainder of the tour was spent walking through Chinatown with Judy relaying the ownership of some buildings, revealing the hidden entrances to two "speakeasy" businesses and assorted restaurants while acquainting us with local politics. Intriguing Chinese medicine shops were passed by with only her comment that the mysterious medicines at the back would be necessary for treatment after eating the enigmatic foodstuffs displayed at the front. Similarly, the cultural and gastronomic backgrounds to the wares of various traditional food retailers were ignored before we were crowded into a Chinese tea shop. Again, no cultural context, nor explanations provided about the teas before moving on to peek inside the interiors of two Chinese Clan Society buildings. Tour over with a group photograph (that was never delivered) and only perfunctory coverage of the Chinese history, the "head tax" and unique architecture of an important gem in the heart of Vancouver. Overall: Judy is personable but displays only superficial knowledge and, in my opinion, is an ineffective ambassador for Chinatown - consequently, a disappointingly lacklustre and expensive experience!

But his suggestion was not based on looking at a bunch of noteworthy building from the outside / seat of tour bus. Persuaded to wear the walking shoes and don a hot to avoid the unseasonably sunny skies that have characteristic of the summer, away I went to join group of academics from the Pacific Northwest. We met the company owner (Judy) at a local cafe, which served as the start point for a dynamic, educational and very worthwhile 2 hour whirlwind tour which features a tour of the incredibly narrow building, meeting a 93 year old Vancouver customized tailor who working with cast iron machines and an derailed explanation of Chinatown ' s colorful history. Judy's advanced knowledge of the Chinese interest in BC contributed to my fantastic experience. Thank you Judy for such an exceptional morning, the highlight of my vacation.

It's inside a building, but signage outside is small and not very clear, so it took a bit of wandering before I even found the line. I actually even passed the building up while walking. I needed to use the restroom before going up and saw signage for the one near the food court. Honestly, it was absolutely disgusting and didn't have paper towels. I ended up walking completely out. When I asked the lookout staff about a restroom, I was initially told there wasn't one. Then once they asked if I was intending on buying a ticket, it suddenly appeared that there all of a sudden was a restroom available upstairs. Hmmm but at any rate, it was a completely different experience from the first restroom. Thank goodness. The lookout itself feels dated. You do get a full bird's-eye view of the city, but there wasn't anything especially exciting or memorable about it. They also charged more than what was posted on the signage, so it looks like a recent price increase, $24 CAD mid June. Overall, if you go in with low expectations and just want a quick view of the city, it's fine. But I wouldn't call it a must-do in Vancouver.

Tip 1: There are only vending machines for snacks and drinks - don't expect gift shops or cafes inside this terminal. If time permits, one can park the car in the ferry lineup and walk over to the horseshoe bay village for takeout foods. As walk on ferry passengers, it's easy to look for food options at the village across from the ferry terminal. Tip 2: Do make sure you have a pre-paid vehicle booking for all sailings departing here, except for vehicles heading to Bowen Island. Drive on the right-most lane if you are heading to Bowen and purchase a ticket at the end of the lane. Tip 3: Highway driving - pay attention to switch to the right lane before exit 3; it's simply a nuisance if you miss turning off on exit 3 when rushing for a ferry sailing. Tip 4: Transit via bus 257 is convenient from downtown Vancouver or Park Royal - good transit option for getting to this terminal. Tip 5: Delays "sometime" occur with ferry sailings so please brace yourself, plan accordingly, perhaps take some photos and soak up the view. Bon Voyage!

It was a super quick Uber ride from our downtown hotel over here which was nice, compared to having to drive all the way down to the airport. Amtrak goes from here to Washington and Oregon, and the prices are really affordable too! Much less than flying! However, be sure to arrive at least 60 minutes early before your train as the line gets long! They manually check your ticket and then stick you in a line to clear US Customs before boarding the train! Our train ended up leaving 15 minutes early, because everyone had cleared the customs line. Taking the train takes much longer than driving but it is really scenic along the way! Great views from the windows! We Will definitely consider this option again on future trips to Vancouver!

This station left a bit to be desired. I was taking the bus back to Seattle, and basically walked…read morein and was pointed to a bus area outside. Kind of had to figure it out myself. It recommended coming an hour early and I am very glad I didn't listen. I came 15 min early and was put on an overflow but with only 10 people on it, while the other bus was completely full. I wouldn't say to arrive late but...they didn't even let people get on until 20 min before, so if you aren't a fan of outdoor lines, just do what feels best. The staff did a great job of loading our luggage for us and managed passport checks efficiently. Station itself wasn't the best. No food or beverages other than vending machines and the bathrooms were just okay. Not many amenities or nice places to sit. I would take this bus again, but would limit my time in the station itself.

There is no way we would have gotten the feel for this city had we not taken this tour. Several folks were repeat tour guy visitors, so they must have enjoyed those as well. Our group had folks from several countries. It is a relaxed tour at a pace that is just right...not too fast and not too slow. Seriously, just right! And absolutely everyone in our group was happy to hand over generous thank you tips. Well-deserved. Ali was kind enough at the end of the tour to guide anyone who wanted dining suggestions or directions. For us, he was even kind enough to let us walk along with him since we were heading in the same direction. As a result, we were fortunate enough to get an extended tour, as he remained a wealth of Vancouver info as we went along. Highly recommend!

She pointed out some places of interest, told us the history of Chinatown, took us to a herbal store, and ended the tour at the Chinese Gardens. The tour was over 2 hours, and she gave suggestions for lunch. I love these type of tours because they are given by people who have lived there for a good amount of time, and who are passionate about what they are presenting. She was no exception.
