I love finding free tours by foot. We did at 7:30 PM ghost tour with Mari and she was great. She is from the city and was highly knowledgeable about the haunted history and took us to places we shouldn't miss. Some of the stories gave a little chill, and some were downright disturbing. Mari was animated and hilarious. Even a weird thing happened during our tour. A potato came out of nowhere and hit some of the people in our group which is quite freaky. There were many other ghost tours around, saying essentially the same things. The next day we went on a French Quarter food tour with Kayla. She is also from Louisiana and very knowledgeable about the food history and gave us lots of information about the food influences found here. The places we went to try some of the food wasn't too bad, could have been better, but she did provide us with an extensive list of restaurant recommendations. I do recommend this tour as it is very informative and Kayla is super nice.

I joined the Ghost Tour by foot with guide Evian on 2/22. It was a blast. Evian was an excellent tour guide, offering a great blend of history, anecdotes (first and second-hand), skepticism, and even a photo featuring something unusual! The tour time, number of stops, and amount of walking was well-balanced and as a first activity in the French Quarter, it was a great way to orient myself with the neighborhood. Evian was very good at ensuring we didn't block any walkways or intrude on other tours going on nearby. I also got a few great recommendations for indoor activities to pass the rainy forecast for the next day. 10 out of 10 tour. I'd recommend to anyone with interest in ghosts, history, or a general good time!

Another 5-star worthy walking tour by Free Tours By Foot! [Booking]: I had my very 1st Free Tours By Foot when I visited Washington DC in 2017 and this time I booked a French Quarter Walking Tour at 10 AM on Sunday. There's an OPTIONAL booking fee of $2.75 per person and the booking fee is used to guarantee a spot on the tour. [Parking]: Free Sunday street parking in The French Quarter. In fact the city turns off all of street parking machines until the following Monday. I was able to find plenty of street parking spots at 7:30 AM on Sunday (near St Philip St / Chartres St intersection - about two blocks away from Jackson Square) so come early (before 8 AM) for free Sunday street parking spots near Jackson Square. Paid parking lots are available near Jackson Square, but don't expect cheap parking fees in this part of the town. [French Quarter Walking Tours]: Daniel was an amazing tour guide and time for 2-hour tour flew so quickly. The meeting spot switched from Andrew Jackson Statue (Jackson Square) to St. Louis Cathedral instead because Jackson Square was closed the December Concert Series. The cathedral entrance was quite chaotic as the Sunday mass just ended at 10 AM. Our group started at St. Louis Cathedral, made a small loop, and ended approximately few blocks away from Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar on Bourbon Street. What made Daniel such a good tour guide was his great delivery with a good mix of humor and fun history facts. He made a small joke on how many people are going to cancel the tour because the World Cup Final was happening at the same time and everyone actually showed up for the tour. Below are some of memorable highlights mentioned by our guide: * The tragic story of chess prodigy Paul Morphy and Morphy was mentioned in Netflix's hit show "The Queen's Gambit". * Four pillars of New Orleans cuisine are Creole, Cajun, Vietnamese, and Soul Food (aka comfort food). Not eating one of the four cuisines = missing out 25% of food New Orleans is really good at. * The story of Axeman of New Orleans and how it has been covered by various true crime podcasts. * Brief history of the original red-light district of New Orleans called Storyville as well as the "unofficial" red-light district designation for Bourbon Street. * The oldest bar in town (Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop - built in the 1770s) and how it survived fires that engulfed the French Quarter in the late 1700's. * Old Ursuline Convent is the oldest building in the French Quarter. At the end I paid appropriate compensation to our guide (for reference their competitors charge $20 - $40 per person.) Out of all tours I had in New Orleans, this was the best one and I highly recommend it!

I took the Voodoo tour led by High Priest Robi. The tour was education and exceptionally fun. Priest Robi is unapologetic about his passion for history, Voodoo and genuine in his presentation. This was definitely a high point of my visit to NOLA and I would highly recommend anyone who has the chance to join in. You will laugh, might feel uncomfortable at times and learn a great deal. All of these are good things that will leave you a better person after you take this tour.

We did a tour with Free tours by foot on 11-14-22 our guide was Sandy a local of New Orleans. Sandy was full of useful and historical information. We are very happy with the tour by her of the French Quarters. If your in New Orleans and want to discover more about this beautiful town I would highly recommend doing tours with this company and if you do the French Quarters tour I would recommend Sandy if possible. Thank you again Sandy for such a highlight of our trip to NOLA! Ken

About how much did you tip at the end of the tour?

Where does the French Quarter Tour end? Is it the same end point for all tours?

The exact ending point depends on the tour guide, but with that said, the ending is going to be very near to the starting point.

Date of tour: December 21, 2024…read more After a wonderful food tour in Prague last year, we wanted to replicate the magic stateside while visiting New Orleans, a city with a rich food history and scene. As requested, I will keep the individual location names secret as to not spoil your potential food tour but also because the stops can change and I don't want to have you disappointed if you don't get the same places on your tour. Ty was a great guide, providing us with local history and culture as we ate our way down Magazine Street. The only complaint I have is that they didn't really interact with us during the food portions, standing or sitting off to the side, or running to the next location to make sure we were all set. To me, the guide should be not only the bridge between the locations and food with us, but also a bridge between the different groups on the tour. Ty told us before the tour started that the other folks joining us were from Michigan, but we found out from them later that they were actually from New York. Had these connections been made earlier, it would have enhanced the tour. On to the food, wonderful that it all was! Please note that I may make some errors in the actual names of the food, while I took pictures, I did not write down the names and there wasn't a post-tour recap to assist me! Stop #1: A local sandwich and a seafood side. Both quite good, especially since I don't like olives! Stop #2: An unusual meat that was shockingly good! Stop #3: Seafood options. I've had a different version of one of these items in Asheville, NC. This wasn't quite as good but still tasty. Stop #4: Southern favorites that were so good! I didn't think I would like these but I did. Stop #5: A peppermint fudge cupcake. Sadly, the weakest stop on the tour. Other that tried the gelato came away disappointed and my cupcake was neither overly fudgey or pepperminty. It looked pretty, though!

This is a small group experience, which is why I wanted to do this one. We met at the Tableau Restaurant and were offered the choice of an aperol spritz or a French 75. We chose the spritz. We were told some history and ghost lore before going up to the wine room for some more stories. Very cool. They showed us video of a ghostly incident that had occurred there before. Next we walked down the street where we were told about the haunting at Muriel's Restaurant, where they also set a ghost table. Our last stop was at a psychic shop where we did a tarot card reading and we're given a Pan Am cocktail. I highly recommend this tour. It's unique and you get a little bit of all the good things you come to New Orleans for.

We meet up at the Voodoo Lounge, where there is a ticket office in the back room. We didn't live the bar--smelled a little bit like a sewer and the hurricanes were super sweet and kind of weak. But we did have but one get one, so wasn't that upset. The tour was great. We saw some interesting, haunted places and heard the history behind them. We didn't linger too long at any one place. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny, although he may have been a tad bit too heavy on the Catholic Church jokes. The tour ended at the LaLaurie house, and our guide shared a story about a little girl on who was recently on his tour who started crying and asked why there were dead people on the balcony. Spooky! I was so intrigued by what he said that I started looking up stories about Delphine LaLaurie and the haunting of the house. When I got home, I even started watching season 3 of American Horror Story, which has the character Delphine LaLaurie (accurate? No. Fun? Yes!). This was a fun way to spend the evening. There was an obnoxiously drunk guy on our tour, and our guide handled him well.

She came across like an overly dramatic theater kid who couldn't dial it back. Her mannerisms and constant theatrics were cringey, and while maybe one or two stories had potential, the delivery completely ruined them. She would randomly go off on personal tangents (where she lives, her parents, and other irrelevant details) that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts or vampires and added nothing to the experience. The worst part was her points system, where she'd give out points if people followed instructions or answered questions. For example, when we stayed on the sidewalk instead of walking in the street, she'd shout "10 points!" and point at each person while repeating it. It wasn't quirky or fun, it was just annoying. I wouldn't recommend this tour based on her alone. After our awful experience we tried another company called Nola Ghost Riders and I'd highly recommend them. They are located at the Voodoo Lounge off Decatur St, while French Quarter Phantoms is at Voodoo Lounge off Rampart St.
