The school that first integrated in New Orleans!

Hands down best tour company in New Orleans! This was the highlight of our trip. We did a full day with them first the Whitney Plantation and then the tour of the city covering African American history here. We will never forget what we saw and learned here! Now I know about the culture and beginnings the of second line, how integration of the school systems took place here, the black Indians and the rooting in the maroon colonies, slave auctions, Hurricane Katrina, the history of Jazz, so many essential stories. Our tour guide was so fun and informative. Also gave us great food reccomendations.

Dennis was the best guide ever! Very informative and entertaining. He made an already amazing experience even greater. I truly appreciated everything about this trip (Including the time allowed for NOLA lunch in the middle of the combo tour). I 10/10 recommend and look forward to coming again sharing this tour with family members.

Chris, thank you so very much for your kindness and a wonderful learning experience while visiting NOLA for my first time. I will definitely be back and I hope to experience more of your beautiful city and culture and eat more food, jump on a second line, and rejoice our people!

My boyfriend and I went on the urban city tour with tour guide Jay. Jay was phenomenal very knowledgeable about the city's rich culture and history and also funny which was a plus! The tour took us through so many different New Orleans actual neighborhoods where we got to learn about the city's makeup, the musical history, slavery/trades etc. it was also cool to see that the buildings are still standing after over 200 years. We also visited studio Be which was created and run by a NOLA native Mike. This studio is to die for! His artistic ability is amazing and pieces were really deep! Jay also recommended some top places to eat that locals recommend which was amazing! This tour was a 10/10. Very eye opening, fun and informational. I would definitely recommend and would recommend Jay as your tour guide!

We had a wonderful time with 2nd Line Tours. Dennis was a fabulous tour guide and gave us an unforgettable experience in New Orleans History. I recommend everyone who wants a more black/indigenous/afro cultural view of Nawlins to book the tour. You will learn valuable information to carry with you to help educate others. You may also get to add a song or two to your playlist. #WEOUTSIDE Can't wait to visit again and take another tour with 2nd Line.

Date of tour: December 21, 2024…read more After a wonderful food tour in Prague last year, we wanted to replicate the magic stateside while visiting New Orleans, a city with a rich food history and scene. As requested, I will keep the individual location names secret as to not spoil your potential food tour but also because the stops can change and I don't want to have you disappointed if you don't get the same places on your tour. Ty was a great guide, providing us with local history and culture as we ate our way down Magazine Street. The only complaint I have is that they didn't really interact with us during the food portions, standing or sitting off to the side, or running to the next location to make sure we were all set. To me, the guide should be not only the bridge between the locations and food with us, but also a bridge between the different groups on the tour. Ty told us before the tour started that the other folks joining us were from Michigan, but we found out from them later that they were actually from New York. Had these connections been made earlier, it would have enhanced the tour. On to the food, wonderful that it all was! Please note that I may make some errors in the actual names of the food, while I took pictures, I did not write down the names and there wasn't a post-tour recap to assist me! Stop #1: A local sandwich and a seafood side. Both quite good, especially since I don't like olives! Stop #2: An unusual meat that was shockingly good! Stop #3: Seafood options. I've had a different version of one of these items in Asheville, NC. This wasn't quite as good but still tasty. Stop #4: Southern favorites that were so good! I didn't think I would like these but I did. Stop #5: A peppermint fudge cupcake. Sadly, the weakest stop on the tour. Other that tried the gelato came away disappointed and my cupcake was neither overly fudgey or pepperminty. It looked pretty, though!

This is a small group experience, which is why I wanted to do this one. We met at the Tableau Restaurant and were offered the choice of an aperol spritz or a French 75. We chose the spritz. We were told some history and ghost lore before going up to the wine room for some more stories. Very cool. They showed us video of a ghostly incident that had occurred there before. Next we walked down the street where we were told about the haunting at Muriel's Restaurant, where they also set a ghost table. Our last stop was at a psychic shop where we did a tarot card reading and we're given a Pan Am cocktail. I highly recommend this tour. It's unique and you get a little bit of all the good things you come to New Orleans for.

I would give him 10 stars if I could!!!…read more Mr. Leon Waters is an amazing man that fools you at first thinking he will walk slow but he suddenly jets off and you are left there scrambling to catch up! He is a wise man who has lived through so much and he not only witnessed things but takes action to make right what is wrong. I was so impressed with his bravery and the many ways he initiated change for good. He defines terms for you (like how a Creole person is a child born of black and white parents). And like another Yelper mentioned, he provides a portfolio given to you that accentuates his tour and it's VERY well organized!! It is a very interactive tour and you get to hold very historical items. I won't say what they are so I don't ruin it, but those helped me learn a lot. It produced a strong emotion for me to experience something that was used for evil on precious children and adults. This tour really takes you deep into the mindset of things. Mr. Waters also teaches us about symbolism and how important it was in many aspects! It's about a 2 hour walking tour and I highly recommend bringing enough water (but there are no restroom breaks in between) and a hat. This tour is worth every minute of your time and New Orleans will have a different look to it after you go through it. It's very educational and important to know the history.

You can immediately tell he doesn't just *recite* stories--he has deeply researched them. Every detail was accurate, thoughtfully sourced, and presented with care and integrity. In a city where true crime can easily slip into sensationalism, Drew handled each story with respect, depth, and historical context. That matters, and it showed. What truly sets Drew apart is how he performs the stories. His delivery was engaging without being theatrical for the sake of it. He told each case with genuine love and passion, making the history feel alive while honoring the real people involved. He kept the group fully engaged from start to finish--thorough, entertaining, and never rushed.
