On the whole, I have been very pleased with Tower and have maintained my membership even after retiring, even though there is not a branch anywhere near me. I do all my business online or on the phone. Tower's charges for certain services are more reasonable than other banks and credit unions and they can be very compassionate. There was a situation in which I had to get copies of 37 checks. Tower did not charge me any fees and even paid for the postage to send them to me. I like that Tower does not charge me when I have to reorder checks. I also have my primary credit card with Tower and it is nice to receive the monthly rebate. Many, many years ago, we refinanced my husband's mortgage through Tower and it was a smooth transaction. Of course, even Tower is not perfect and yes, I did have a problem when I bought my new house four years ago and thought about getting the mortgage throughTower. The representative with whom I spoke sounded young and seemed to be inexperienced but the one thing for certain was that he made no effort whatsoever to find out the answer to my main question. In fact, he actually brushed me off and hung up. I noticed when I agreed to write this review that it is probably in my husband's name. Terrible policies. I had an old account with TowerFCU that I stopped using. I wanted to close it. They said I had to write a letter with my signature and send it to them. So here's the thing. When calling, I had to give them my SSN, my phone number, my DOB, my mailing address, and even my secret word. Plus two more "security" questions. Yet somehow, all that verification wasn't good enough for them to give me my member's ID since I no longer have it. Second, because I moved, I no longer received their statements (which apparently don't get forwarded) so I cannot get my member's ID there either. And yet they threaten to charge me $10 if I didn't update my address because, you know, policy. Now to close an account, all they need is my name and my signature. That's it. Somehow that's good enough for them to verify my identity. It makes no sense. I had to give away my personal information to verify my identity and got nothing in return. But to close an account, all they need is a letter and signature. That's just a huge turnoff. Stay away from that poor service business. read more

I have been a member since 1981 (45 years) when I started working at NSA and have been very loyal to Tower ever since. However, in the past couple of years I've seen their service and policies go down hill very fast. There are no online payment options available for loan payments from external banks, which means I need to either transfer funds to a bank location that's 2 hours away from me or wait on hold for 10 minutes every time I want to make a loan payment. My loan is in both my and my husband's name and I usually call monthly to make a payment from my (preverified with Tower) husband's bank account without a problem. However, last month I called to make the payment and was accused of bank fraud by a Tower employee who refused to take my payment and called her manager on me. read more

I was walking along one morning when a Tower Fed employee handed me a brochure for an account promotion: open a new account and setup direct deposit, use the promotional code "AGENCY25," and receive $250 (when all stipulations were met). I opened an account, setup direct deposit, then met the time requirement. No incentive. I called and the employee - who seemed clueless - said he would speak to his supervisor. He came back and said, "Oh, give it about another month." I waited nearly three more months and Tower Federal did not honor the promotion, so I closed my account. It's not worth my time pursuing $250, but it was a waste of my time setting up an account with them. Terrible institution. read more

I would make it zero stars if that was an option. From top to bottom they have been the most incompetent, least helpful financial institution I've ever worked with. No one wants to answer questions, so they pass you to the next person, who provides more misinformation. I have been trying for a month and a half to close an account and have yet to have any success. My Husband and I Have had joint bank accounts with you for over sixty years. My Husband passed away and I was very emotional. I had to call tower talk to check my balance because I had to make a payment To the funeral home. After not remembering my password, I was transferred to customer service. I explained that I was not thinking clearly because of this, and was immediately told that they had no Knowledge of his passing and would notate the account. That is not why I called. They locked my account Down, even though it was joint and blocked me from doing anything without the death certificate and filling Out paperwork in their office. It wasn't bad enough that he passed now I was not able to even use our Money. They blocked his retirement and social security from the account. If I didn't have a separate savings Account I would not have been able to survive without outside help. All that finally got sorted and they made Me start a whole new account. Not the one we had jointly for years that all our bills were attached to. No, I Had to start a whole new account. I am not computer savvy as I am in my eighties so I have had to rely on my Children to help with all these new accounts and phone calls that had to be made. My Husband believed, as Did I, that I was protected by having a joint account. That doesn't mean anything to them. They treated me Like I did something wrong. Later on, I had to start a small estate for two things that were soley in his name. I did everything Tower asked. I went with the two things that needed to be put into the estate to settle. I did this July 31st. They cashed the bond right away into my account, however I noticed after two weeks That the cd that was in the small estate had not been moved into my account. I called Tower and they Had problems finding it. After 4 hours they called back and said they did me " a huge favor" by now putting The cd into my account. Thank you for doing your job finally. Do not make it seem like a favor when I have done everything you asked for. I warn everyone I know that banks with Tower what they did And how I was treated after years of loyalty, loans, and several accounts. I cannot wait to get my money Out of there. There was well spent time changing the account and processing everything but I felt I was in good hands and my banking would be safe with the changes we made. Staff were all pleasant and patient. My wife and I went through hell trying to get a mortgage through Tower but the rates were the best around. We should have realized how awful the experience was going to be when they almost cost us our dream home because they couldn't get documents out in a timely fashion. The best part is, 2 years later, we receive notice that our home owners insurance was cancelled and had to pay $900 out of pocket to get it reinstated. After "investigating" Tower told us that the payment for our insurance bounced! First off, how does a credit union bounce a payment and second, how are you not aware of this when it occurs? If you dug through NYC's garbage pile you wouldn't find a bigger piece of trash than this lender. read more

Do not ever expect to get anything done with this Credit Union without at least 3-5 calls & contacts. I've never been so consistently aggravated with a Customer Service Department. Everything was too difficult. Nothing was clear. They reserve 3-5 business days for any response, email, or other needed information. Get ready to spend 10-15 minutes on hold if you're lucky enough to even get a Customer Service Agent on the phone. The worst service I've had. Had a car loan through Tower and it was a nightmare working with them. After a car accident, insurance sent a check to Tower to pay off my car loan which was supposed to release my title to me. Tower, for some reason, claimed they sent the title to the insurance company, which they never did. The insurance company claimed they never received the title. Hours and hours on the phone talking to Tower's rude and reckless associates, I couldn't find out where my title was. The worst part is, they literally told me, "too bad, you figure it out." I finally got on a 3 way call with my insurance company and TFCU where they could hash it out because they were both blaming the other guy. Come to find out after hours and hours of fighting with Tower, my insurance company and I find out Tower had sent my title to some random salvage yard in California. Keep in mind, I live in Colorado and the insurance company is located in Atlanta, nor do I have any connections to California in any kind of way...My car has never been to California, isnt registered in California, I have no family/friends in California etc etc. It was entirely random and bizarre why they sent my title to a salvage yard in California, and to this day no one knows why. On the 3 way call, the insurance company and I spent several hours talking to rude employees at Tower who kept claiming they wouldnt do anything to help us even though they were 100% at fault for loosing my title--they were even yelling at the insurance agent fully knowing they lost my title, which was extremely immature and unprofessional. The insurance agent later told me "holy cow, I have never dealt with anything/anyone as insane as Tower." Just know, once Tower gets paid, they do not give a d*** about you. *The result- I never got my title from Tower. I ended up missing work, and spent the next grueling week getting a new title through the DMV. Tower cost me several hundred dollars and so much hell. Everyone needs to know Tower's customer service is by far the worst I have ever experienced. Im not just an angry customer, this whole situation was extremely insane and I couldnt believe that they denied all accountability. This shows their true integrity. They dont give a d*** about their customers and you will deal with a giant mess if anything ever goes wrong with your accounts. I highly suggest no one ever does business with Tower, you will end up losing hundreds of dollars with them through poor and fraudulent practices. read more

Absolute worst institution I've ever dealt with. Was approved for a loan on 12/12/22. It is now 2/15/23 and I have not heard from these morons despite giving them everything they asked for. I have called no less than a dozen times. I get a voicemail every time. I call the main line and get a live body who is usually nice, but clueless. I've e-mailed and messaged them weekly asking for a status update. Nothing. I guess this is how they can offer low rates--they never actually give you the money. For the love of god! It all started with an email telling me that they will start being charge $10 every quarter because I needed to update my address. I moved a month ago at this point. I've been a little busy moving and getting married and all. Sorry it slipped my mind and you feel the need to send me some threatening email. I have the app only because it was suggested when I first opened my car loan. It's a car loan and I never used the app because I don't have a personal bank account with them. I pay that bill through my bank every month. I went on the app to change my address and this piece of junk won't let me log in or click on forgot password. I have to waste my time calling them and this robot of a lady, wasn't much help. She couldn't update my address and told me I had to register on the app again. Says it will take about 8 minutes. Are you F-ing kidding me right now??!!!!!! I registered again and says that it's now waiting to verify my account. So again...unable to update my address. I'm pissed and asked for the amount I owe because I'm over this and paying off this car loan in full so I will never have to deal with this stupidity again. She gave me the pay off loan amount and my bank sent them a payment in full which took a couple of days. Now a month later and I haven't received anything that my account is paid in full. I called again.. this lady sounds death inside. Seriously.. what does this company due to there employees to sound like this??? I work in customer service and speak to people all day and I can tell you what... There is no way in hell I would be allowed to sound like that to customers. When I called, I was told that I have a balance of $2. My head almost exploded. Whatever...I got pretty annoyed and mentioned that I was told the amount which I double confirmed with the lady before requesting a payment via my bank. I was ready to just pay it and move on with my life but she decided to put me on hold for 10 mins. If you can see the flames coming through my ears it would have melted everything around me. After waiting, she came back because she felt the need to go to her supervisor on this matter to give me an answer. I didn't ask for one and if my desperate tone or expressing my frustration wasn't clear that I just wanted to make this go away... then you clearly need to get your head out of your butt. Its $2. F off and just charge my card. I gave her my card and it didn't register on her end. Then I gave her my banking info and after repeating a few times it finally worked. Car loan was approved and should have been mailed overnight to dealership on 1/5/23. It is 1/10/23 and dealership has not received the check. The tracking number provided shows label created. The dealership is asking for their check since I have already picked up the vehicle. I cannot reach anyone in processing department. No one answers their direct line, and I am only provided unhelpful answers when using their web messages tool Other departments cannot help and just tell me to keep calling. Absolutely ridiculous. If I don't need a response soon, I will refinance with someone else and tell my bank to stop any payments to Towers. read more

Dealing with them was frustrating, disappointing and not worth the trouble. They never contacted us about our application for the loan. When I tried to contact them by calling multiple times, I was given the run around - never a straight answer. When I tried closing the account, I was given misinformation when I called 3 separate times and again never contacted. I only found out another step was necessary when I called in because I hadn't heard back in weeks. The accts were successfully closed. Poor customer service all around. Multiple calls always promised an escalation to try to get us the first promised rate that THEY screwed up - and NOT ONCE did anyone actually call back. So, I'm giving four stars. I'm guessing you're here because of an auto loan or something similar. I ordered a Tesla mid-Jan after Elon dropped prices. Went through the process for membership which takes a couple of weeks and the then the loan application. The problem they're dealing with currently is the backlog of loan request based on a YouTube video which went viral for a credit union providing an unheard of 3.49% rate for up to 72 months. If you escalate your request through facebook or possibly send their "higher-ups" an email. Things will fall into place quickly. There... I would avoid Tower as a lender. First reason is that the customer service people like to talk down to you and are not up to date on the Tower processes. If I would have had a conversation with them before signing my loan through Caribou, I would have picked a different lender. Terrible service. I felt like I worked a second full time job just to get this loan. My processor had a full voicemail box and I couldn't leave written messages in the messaging center either. It took 20 days of non-stop exhaustion to get a loan that was only supposed to take 5-7 business days. The way they calculate the loan is also confusing. I recommend you use another credit union and if you fall into the trap I did, talk to the E Commerce people. At times they were the only ones I could reach. read more

They are not dependable. With leading and loan, time is essence. Tower does not follow up with time-line. The processor over the phone told me that she will do what when (it was a simple task of mailing a check). Missed. The details of their promised service do not match the outcome. The worst part is that it is nearly impossible to communicate with the processor. Presumably the staff are overloaded. At least I got my loan funded- in that sense I am lucky. Behind the times banking experience. One has to wonder how they're still in business. There's no option to send a secure message; no e-deposit option; flawed password recovery options on portal; the list goes on. TFCU won't appeal to tech savvy consumers given their outdated communication methods. In fact, they've had technical problems with their site preventing customers from managing their accounts (see attached). I've never had this experience with any other financial institution. I have had 2 lines of credit on my house and the service was ok, but not great. I applied for a car loan, was approved and then they wanted all of my personal business tax returns, which I provided. Then I was denied due to deductions which any business person takes and haven't been able to get a returned phone call even after I provided the reconsider form with liquid assets more than the price of the vehicle with still no phone call. I've got it financed elsewhere but I'm disappointed that the 5 year relationship couldn't even get a returned phone call from processing or management. Very poor service and communication. I still have accounts with them but this is definitely a crappy way to run a business that is supposed to help it's members. read more

Have been a member for years and I must say I can relate to the low reviews. When my new direct deposit was started for a new account there I was to call so that they could close the previous account. In error they closed out the savings account first and was anxious to close out the checking. They closed the checking account prior to the direct deposit change taking effect. This was forwarded to corporate who kept over talking me and spoke to me in a very condescending manor. I recently applied for a loan and they told me the average process is 2 weeks. Now 3 months later, it's still not going anywhere. My loan consultant takes 2 weeks to respond every time. No one answers calls. After 2 months of waiting, I ended up sending a DM to them on Facebook. I guess their marketing team is the only ones who care about their customers?! I got a manager call me back and finally got a response. Now a week later, no response again. This has been the single most frustrating experience I've ever had with any bank. read more

I applied for the membership via online (denied) and applied via a paper-based application (denied). How long does it take? 2 wks for each, a total of a month. They checked my credit score and approved me for 2.99 APR, they also confirmed they received all my documents, so I waited and waited for them to get the loan going like they promised, I couldn't wait any longer and decided to call them on my own and after about 30 minute wait they answered and said that there was one more document that they haven't received and therefore my loan was closed since it was passed 30 days, however they did say that I can reapply for 8.49 APR. I'm pretty sure they would approve me for that in a heartbeat... This bank is a scam, I would not recommend anyone to do business with them. Stay far away from them. read more
