A beautiful driving park with nice gardens in St. Louis. Tower Grove Park in St. Louis, Missouri, is a wonderful large open gardens located just outside of St Louis. We were in St. Louis and decided to check it out. The park features well-maintained driving paths with 3 round-about type traffic patters and driving paths off that. These allow you to drive through the natural scenery and historic landscape without even having to leave your vehicle. Parking is convenient, with marked spaces available directly along the side of the road. This makes it very easy to pull over and admire the view whenever you spot something interesting. We were particularly struck by the Fountain pond and the area right next to it. We found a place right next to it and walked a few steps to some of the prettiest gardens I've seen in a while. We didn't have enough time to explore the entire park, including the botanical gardens section. Overal, it is well worth the drive or stop. It's a peaceful, escape right in the city. If you're looking for a relaxing way to see some nature without a long hike, this is the great spot. I highly recommend it to any fellow travelers passing through St. Louis who want a quick, lovely outdoor break. Enjoy! read more

There's really something for everyone at The Tower Grove Park. This was a first visit to attend the Tower Grove Market. Parking on Saturday is really intense inside the park. It's all along a single road one-way that requires parallel parking. I only participated in the market, but I did see tennis courts and playgrounds. A Botanical Gardens is nearby that's highly regarded. On Saturdays they have music and food by the fountain. Absolutely a Saint Louis gem and can't wait to return soon. read more

Now that the weather is nicer I can go back to weekly walks at this gem. The trees lining almost every path, the basketball courts, fountain, so many picnic sites, and pavilions make this such a scenic walk. The park hosts a farmer's Market and food truck Fridays along with so many other incredible events. read more

Fun park for family gatherings, picnics, birthdays, reunions, field days, etc. Street parking throughout the park. Dogs welcome, but of course please keep the park clean and pick up after animals and children. Recommended. read more

I love this park! It has beautiful open green spaces, fields, ponds, paths to walk and benches dotted throughout. The biggest plus of this park is the many events they have throughout the week like live music and farmers markets. STL is blessed with amazing parks and this is definitely one of them. TGP is an amazing spot to wander through the trees in the center of the city. There's ample space for athletic activities, picnics, walking, relaxing, and soaking in the vibes. Depending on the time of year you can catch gorgeous flowers or the fall foliage at its best. I also love it because it does so much for community- there are so many events including the iconic farmers market on Saturdays in the warm months. If you haven't visited, it's a must! read more

Walking through TGP makes for a great, scenic walk especially with less foot traffic and ample parking. I love walking on the eastern side of the park with the various types of scenery that it has to offer, and the fountain is one of my favorite views of this park, especially in the Spring and Fall seasons. The only downside is maneuvering around all of the goose droppings. read more

I go here for Festival of Nations and even without, It's still a great place to take a stroll or sit and take a bite to eat. The area is also mighty big, there is a huge range to walk from! Not much going on today with on and off rain but I stopped by and had an explore of this fabulous park. The land was donated in 1868 by Henry Shaw who made his fortune here in Saint Louis selling supplies to pioneers. The park is 289 acres and extends more than a mile and a half from end to end. There are a number of pavilions and I only spotted a couple of them today during my exploration. The park also has tennis courts, softball fields, soccer paths and I enjoyed some of the paths that are suitable for walking and cycling. There is parking throughout as the roadways are quite wide. In addition to being home to nearly 400 species of flora, it is a bird-watching area as it is part of the Mississippi Flyway used by many different migrating birds. There are a number statues and monuments throughout the park including Shakespeare. The Columbus statue was removed after some controversy in 2020. This is a lovely park. This was my second time visiting and our focus Thays round was on the Saturday morning farmers market which is so lively and bustling. The market featured a diverse array of food and artisan vendors all conveniently located by a small playscape, the indoor bathrooms and fountain. I was impressed by both the amount of shade found in this park and the cleanliness of their indoor bathroom facilities. It really makes it an ideal spot for event planners. We look forward to future visits here. read more

Park is my favorite park in St. Louis. It's a very active park. They have a farmers market, sip and strolls, events at the Piper Palm House all the time. There's a lot going on at Tower Grove Park. How fortunate to have stayed only 2 blocks from this fantastic outdoor space during our vacation to St. Louis! The 1.6 mile linear park is a National Historic Landmark with large open green spaces in the center for activities (soccer, softball, etc) that is flanked by numerous monuments, statues, gazebos, pavilions, benches, and more. There are over 400 species of flowers, shrubs, and trees within the park. This is a perfect place to picnic (we took advantage!), cycle, jog, dog-walk, or simply sit with a good book and cup of joe and relax! I understand that it is host to many outdoor concerts, events, and weddings. Of course there tennis courts, playgrounds for the small ones, and even a wading pool and horse stable! There are food trucks on Fridays and a farmers market on Saturday morning. The park is dog-friendly (leashed of course). This park is an absolute jewel and the locals are fortunate for its presence! read more

I feel very lucky to live so close to such a beautiful park! Every season has its perks but for beauty alone, fall and spring are my favorites - you can really get lost in the lovely spring flowers or gorgeous fall colors. The ponds by the ruins are also a neat place to people watch or feed the ducks and on the weekends, loads of people filter in to take wedding or prom pictures..it can be amusing. In the summer it's fun to picnic, rent a pavilion or catch one of the iconic fests such as The Festival of Nations, TG Pride, The Pagan Festival and so much more. The Farmers Market has also grown so much and it's a nice way to spend a Saturday morning - shopping, having a bite or a cocktail and listening to live music. Close to Christmas, The Piper Palm House which hosts a wonderful brunch year round, transforms into Frosted, a holiday pop up bar and it's soo adorable! I almost forgot to mention the horses and carriage rides though the park! They only have 2 horses and truly take good care of them. This is the only place I would ever consider taking a carriage ride because I know the horses are well cared for and live a happy life at the park. I came here specifically to walk and enjoy the fall foliage. I loved that they have a 3.4 mile paved trail and it is fairly flat (easier for my dog to walk). The foliage did not disappoint - it was very pretty! There are many openings to get into the park and that makes some of the driving areas one way, but it's still very easy to get around. They were having a big pokemon event while I was there but it seemed well organized and most people were in a specific area looking for the pokemon. It didn't really impact the walking trail at all. Note that I dropped it one star because I didn't see any boards anywhere in this park that showed the trails and/or how to get to the different areas in the park. Because there are many entrances and therefore walking ways for pedestrians to those entrances, parts of the walking trail were difficult to know where to follow. read more

This place is so gorgeous, I may or may not like this place better than Forest Park. Walked around after going to the Farmers Market which was in the park and there were so many amazing things to see here. One of my favorites was the Victoria Lily Pads which are also in the Missouri Botanical Garden too. There were so many small ponds full of different types of lily pads. The park is very walkable. Especially during early October in the crisp of Fall, it feels like you are in the Forest Gump movie with all the highly saturated different types of foliage surrounding you. Highly recommend coming here and will be back to do some yoga or to play badminton in the park! read more

I had a pleasant drive through this park after picking up some food togos. SUCH A GORGEOUS PARK - it's atmosphere totally brings me back to my summer in England! I imagined a photoshoot, picnic, stroll, run, bike or just take a breather on one of the many benches looking at the array of flowers & colors blended together. Food Truck Friday? Farmer's Market? Festival of Nations? Yes, please! Even when there are no events going on, this is a nice place for a relaxing walk when the world is trying to aggravate you. It's also a great place for a picnic lunch. If the pavilions are all occupied, just grab a bench or even a patch of grass. read more

I absolutely love Tower Grove Park!!!! I pass through this park quite often to get many places. The park is centrally located in South City with plenty of ball fields (whether it's kick ball, softball or baseball) It's the home of Food truck Friday's, The Farmer's Market and Festival of Nations. The park is quite large even though it doesn't quite seem it. They have the most beautifully amazing landscaping as you enter into the park. I love just admiring the beauty of the various plants. Kudos to whoever upkeeps those stunning plants. There are soo many gazebo's to chose from to host your outings and they have a great path for workouts and walks. Inside the park is extremely picturesque. My sorror's and I took our AKAversary pics here. A lot of people take various pics throughout the park. Another highlight I forgot to mention is The Piper Palm House. I see they have opened back a couple times for brunch, but many weddings take place there. The park also host concerts. I parked in Tower Grove to eat my dinner and enjoy the calming environment. It really is a beautiful, serene, abs charming outdoor space. This experience made my first night in STL so enjoyable. After dinner, I drove around the park and stumbled upon a nice market with some food trucks. Everyone was nice, I purchased some soaps, mushroom jerky, and a delicious hand pie dessert from several different booths. I highly recommend it if you're a visitor to the area. I know Forest Park is well know but don't sleep on Tower Grove. There were people walking, doing yoga, eating, playing tennis, and just sitting having a relaxing time. I love this park! There are many paved trails. We came here for the Saturday farmers market. The market goes from 8-12:30. There were so many stands with unique items and food and drinks. We just wished the farmers market went on longer, there were still so many people trying to shop but the majority of stands started closing up right at 12:30. We stayed after to explore the park and there were so many beautiful plants and flowers. There is also a gazebo with water fountains. There were also tennis courts that were full grass which we have never seen before. read more

History lesson time... Gosh I love history. Tower Grove Park was established by Henry Shaw on his own private land, this 280-acre linear park was designed and developed by Shaw and donated to the City of St. Louis in 1868. Officially opened to the public in 1872, Tower Grove has been characterized as the largest and best preserved 19th-century Gardenesque style city park in the United States, and is registered as a National Historic Landmark. Shaw believed that parks were important "not only as ornaments to a great city, but as conducive to the health and happiness of its inhabitants and to the advancement of refinement and culture." Shaw, a businessman who sold goods to pioneers, was a native of the United Kingdom, and used his personal experiences as well as extensive travels around Europe to as inspiration for both the Missouri Botanical Gardens and Tower Grove Park. The strongest influence was John Claudius Loudon, whose writings promoted a gardenesque method of planting that featured wide spacing of specimens, which allowed each tree, shrub, and flower to grow to full size and shape without crowding, so that its color and form could be best observed and appreciated. In Loudon's view, this systematic arrangement was the preferred mode of public display because it facilitated an aesthetic response. From Shaw's perspective, perceiving the park and its exotic pavilions as works of art rather than works of nature would also underscore the distinction between the park and the surrounding area. The park incorporates a series of pavilions, a music stand, shelter houses, mock ruins, lily ponds, bridges, fountains, statuary, stables, residences, and two conservatories, including the 1878 Palm House, the oldest standing greenhouse west of the Mississippi. The park also includes a collection of 435 varieties of more than 10,000 trees and woody shrubs. *PHEW* That was a lot. Now onto my personal experiences. To me, Tower Grove Park is leaps and bounds the best park in St. Louis. I love how accessible it is. You can always find parking, the surrounding neighborhoods are lively and offer a topiary of restaurants and shops for picking up food for picnics or grabbing a post-run coffee. So many 5k races that I run start from the Sons of Rest pavilion, so I'm very familiar with the terrain. Tower Grove is great for runners because it offers flat straightaways or rolling hills for an extra challenge. My favorite part of Tower Grove, are the somewhat hidden trails that connect larger thruways. You feel so connected to nature. The park offers so much to our city besides pure beauty. I have played kickball on the fields, hosted social distance picnics in the sprawling lawns, munched on some of the best foods at the Festival of Nations and sipped some of the best beer at food truck fridays. There truly is something for everyone in this city gem. Don't walk through looking down at your phone because you'll miss some of the most breathtaking greenery in St. Louis. read more

It is one of my favorite parks in Saint Louis, with plenty of space to walk, run, picnic, and hang out. I found a space to let my dog run, play fetch, and catch without disturbing other parkgoers. I recommend checking out this park if you're visiting STL. Plenty of shops and restaurants are within walking distance from this park as well. read more

Being that STL has Forest Park, all of the other parks are sort of at a disadvantage, as there really is no comparison. That being said, Tower Grove Park has its charms. Tower Grove is a nice sized park (I won't say large because Forest Park is large (massive); but Tower Grove would be considered large if it wasn't living in FP's shadow.) that runs from Grand to Kingshighway in length. The grounds seem to be nicely kept, but I've never used their restroom facilities so I cannot speak on those. It's a lovely location for festivals, such as my favorite, the Festival of Nations. From spring til autumn you can catch bridal parties posing away to the backdrop of blossoming flowers or beautiful fall foliage. It's also a great place for a leisurely walk or cardio workout, yoga, play dates/ real dates, picnics, teaching your teenager to drive, or Pokemon Go hunting, the later of which is how I typically spend my time here (as of late). There are lots of pokestops and at least a dozen gyms. If you're walking your dog, they have doggy water fountains! I am unsure if they have particular hours like the parks in Arizona. The TG website only says from sunrise to sunset. However, we've come by a few times after sunset and there were lots of cars still there and the park rangers drove by and didn't say anything, so... ? It does get quite dark after sunset though. There aren't any lights aside from the street lamps, so if you're running, catching Pokemon, etc. just be aware and alert (as always). I will say that I have never felt unsafe here, no matter the time. Tower Grove is a beautiful park (especially in autumn) and a lovely part of St. Louis history. read more

Tower Grover is my absolute favorite park in STL. The park is massive and holds so many cool local events that brings so many people out. Massive mature trees dot the park that are breathtaking. The grounds are well maintained and I hardly ever see trash anywhere in the park. During most of the year you can find baseball, soccer, tball, kickball, ect games all over the place. They have organized fitness and yoga all the time. They hold an event called food truck Fridays which I have always loved and looked forward to. Festival of Nations came back this year and it was absolutely beautiful. I've always felt safe anywhere in the park that I have been. They have bathrooms spread out through the park that are always maintained. I just love this park so much and wish I lived closer to it. Just so much to see and do with all the paths/trails. The neighborhood around the park is nice with awesome family owned resturants/bars. I love love love love Tower Grove Park! read more

This has to be my ask time favorite park in STL. One of my favorite things to do is grab my sketch book and sit under the weeping willow by the small pond. I can sit their for hours drawing and relaxing. Their are also lots of pavilions that you can rent out to throw an outside birthday party. I also like to bring my pup and walk along the many paths that weave thru the park. read more

Tower Grove Park is like a rare blue jewel. Why I described it as such; IDK. It's great for softball leagues of all ages that often play/practice here, walking the doggies, jogging, picnics, moments of peace by the water, ceremonies and food trucks. Tower Grove Park, a little oasis in the middle of the city. St Louis has more than its fair share of city parks and other than the big kahuna itself (Forest Park) this is the next best park in the city as far as I've seen. There aren't really a lot of water features in this park - it's more about trails and trees, but there is a beautiful faux ruins lake and fountain at the north end of the park. Among the most impressive things St. Louis has going for it are its beautiful parks! And, yes, Forest Park is the jewel and you absolutely cannot miss it if it's your first visit to STL, but Tower Grove is a beautiful park! I was visiting STL with a friend last weekend, and our airbnb was quite close to Tower Grove. So we went over and enjoyed the scenery for a bit before we went out to dinner. It's a great park for a walk or a bike ride or a run or a picnic or just reading your book by the water and watching the geese. A beautiful park! read more
