Yes I may agree with a couple of things that it looks as if it's a kind of unsavory neighborhood, but people go to the Apollo theater and manage to have a great time. If Philly had more to choose from as we do in New York, then hey I could say oh what a dump, But I frequent the Waterford a restaurant across the street and never have witness drug dealings as one viewer stated. Awful venue, despite all of the positives I read here at Yelp. The front half of the first floor orchestra has had all of the theater seats removed and replaced by folding chairs!. We sat in the rear half and the seats were so small that it makes flying feel like a luxury, and we are small sized people. The floors were all sticky. Poor lighting made finding your seat row very difficult and the numbering system of the seats is just insane. Absolutely no air conditioning. In late October the theatre was so hot people were passing out. We did not find the sound system very good, but we were there for the O'Reilly/Miller tour and not for music. VERY rough neighborhood, so carry your personal protection with you. Never, ever, again. read more

Famous old theater that is terribly run down. The amount of grime in the place is a slap in the face to any paying customer. Also the sound is nothing to write home about. Get a cleaning crew in the place ASAP. read more

Traveled two hours to see Joe Satriani. Parking area was well lit for an exposed parking garage. Ten bucks for parking. Threatre is on a main road with plenty of shops around and a Marshalls one block away. At no time did i feel unsafe, even with my 9 year old son with me (key point)!! Bottle of water was 5 bucks. Seen plenty of people bringing in their own drinks, probably inside their winter coats. Also plenty of digital cameras. For this show there was security, but no searches were conducted. The decor inside takes you back to the 30s or 40s, if thats what you like. I was more into the show than the decor. The staff was nice and polite and their was two or three waitresses severing aldult drinks, don't know how much but i think 7 bucks. Hope this helps. Pit?? A "general admission" ticket DOES NOT mean you get 2 watch from pit. Get there@8. Was told pit- closed. Asked can I wait until someone leaves? -No, go upstairs- "full" as well. One more flight up. $45 plus fees for the worst seat in the house. I tried to talk to someone about it they didn't care. They told me pit was full and anyone that leaves may not return. So by the time the main band came on the pit was 1/2 full. Maybe they should sell pit and seats separately???? What a joke. read more

I have to say, I was horribly let down by this venue and the experience. I am an avid concert-goer and theatre patron, and am a retired performer myself. I have performed in theatres all over the world as well as have attended shows in theatres all over the world. The Tower Theatre is a beautiful space with a lot of history, and I was thrilled that I was finally going to get the chance to see Josh Groban perform at a venue close to home. The neighborhood itself was a bit dingy and there wasn't a selection of restaurants anywhere close by to eat beforehand. The theatre itself was beautiful, but suffering from neglect; the seats were mislabeled and several rows were missing labels altogether. I was willing to overlook all of that due to my sheer excitement of finally seeing Josh Groban. However, what I wasn't willing to overlook was that the Tower Theatre staff continued to seat latecomers (and there were hundreds) for 45 minutes AFTER Josh began performing! Large groups of people continued to roll in while Josh sang his face off, confused as to where their seats were in the dark, making copious amounts of noise and forcing people to stand up so they could get to their seats. The staff itself were shining flashlights, talking loudly over Josh's singing to the latecomers and patrons already in their seats, and creating an atmosphere of chaos. As a audience member and as a performer I can say that this practice of continuing to seat latecomers well into a show is extremely distracting, disrespectful, and downright rude to both the performer and the patrons who managed to show up on time. 45 minutes after the concert began it seemed everyone had FINALLY found their seats...and then it was time for intermission! The Tower Theatre needs to seriously consider a seating policy where the doors shut 5-10 minutes after the show begins. Latecomers can wait until intermission to find their seats. That is the price you pay for being late. Most theatres across the country operate by this policy ESPECIALLY when you are dealing with a sit-down, $200 a ticket show. If it were a Foo Fighters concert it wouldn't be so distracting or bothersome because it is a different type of performance. Again, allowing patrons who are late to continue to be sat well past the start of a show is simply a bad policy, disrespectful to both the performer and to the patrons who arrived on time. I will have to seriously consider the kind of show that I am seeing before I go to a concert at the Tower Theatre again. read more

Since the 70's I've been going and was just there 1/25/2013. The theater and caliber of acts has been top notch over the years although not as frequent in the last 20. It's a nice size place to watch any act and the price is usually affordable. Parking is (now) $10 in the lot. View and acoustics are 4 stars out of 5. Here is the reason for 3. It's a terrible place to drive to. Absolutely no easy way in/out. There are probably some short cuts known to experienced attendees although I don't see many good options. The area lacks any restaurant/bar trade within walking distance. So forget about making it an extended night without driving. Havertown has some nice places to eat. Parking garage looks the same run down condition it was in years ago. 69th Street terminal is right there if you are on that route. Western suburbs are not so it's not a convenient option. If you can get past these unfavorable issues, it's still a great concert spot. read more

Went to see Celtic Thunder on 10/2/10. I have never been to the Tower Theater. The concert was great and the Theater is old fashioned but very nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Went to my car that was parked in the parking garage behind the Theater to find the passenger window of my car and about 8 others smashed. I had nothing of value in my car so nothing was taken but some people had items stolen from their car. Upper Darby police were there within minutes and were very nice in taking everyone's report. The officer told my husband that they are at this parking garage all the time especially during concerts. There are no security cameras or security checks at this garage. The person who owns the garage should be sued. They take $10 and disappear after the lot is full. Nothing against the Tower but I will not be going to a concert there ever again. I live in Philly and have gone to numerous concerts and games at Wachovia and Citizens Bank Park and have never had an experience like this. read more

security walks around all threatening and one guy had to have a talking to who may have been on something. i noticed this when i went up for a drink. the guy with black hair and walking around like a big shot made me paranoid that he may over re-act to someone and start some shit. also got ripped off at the bar when i wanted a double wine which i learn is illegal but she still charged me for it. no management here. i'll never go again. i go to over 50 shows a year and this venue is the worst. no organization at all. read more

Just saw Billy Idol on 1/24/15 and enjoyed the show and theater very much. I am writing this to WARN you about the area. My wife and I parked in the garage behind the theater, which was very convenient and only $10.00. To get to the theater you walk down what appears to be an alley that leads out to 69th street. We were there around 6:00 pm so it was not very dark yet. As we were halfway through the alley towards 69th, a woman came up from behind and called out to us. I turned around (I will not do that again!) and she asked if we were familiar with the area. I answered her no I was not, and at that point she told us not to yell, she had a gun, and to give her all of our money. She had ahold of my wifes arm, so my reaction was to step in between them, grab the woman, and push her off of my wife. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but that was my reaction. I wanted her away from my wife. By that time we were getting closer to 69th street which was busy, so I guess this woman decided that the best thing for her would be to disappear in the crowd on the street. Thank God she did that, and nobody was hurt. Maybe she really did not have a gun, since her hand was in her coat jacket, but there was no way to be sure. I was really surprised at the total lack of a police presence near this alley 2 hours before a sold out concert. There was not a policeman to be found anywhere nearby. I finally saw one parked on the side of Ludlow St. I told him what had happened but by that time she was long gone. Anyway what I am trying to tell all of you is be very cautious if you park in that garage and walk down that alley. It was a much different story after the show with police present plus many other people walking with us towards the garage. I can't say if this is typical, but I believe there needs to be more of a presence before the show also. This could have been very tragic, we are very lucky. Understandably it put a damper on the concert for my wife. PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU USE THIS GARAGE AND ALLEY. The 4 stars are for the venue and the show. If this did not happen I would have given it 5 stars. read more

I USED to like the Tower Theater until a few years back my then 14 yr old and I and a friend she took, went to see Mariah Carey's show. Mariah was amazing and so talented we were blown away. When we got to the show they told us our seats were blocked by her video equipment. Wonderfully enough they moved us to the 2nd row. My daughter and her friend had no clue (and I admit, neither did I) that when they took out their cameras for a shot of her, security abrubtly came and swiped the camera out of my daughter's hand. When I objected the man yelled in my face "NO PICTURES" !! I apolgized and told him I would not let her do it again, but he would not return my 200.00 camera. He said I had to pick it up after the show that they keep them in the office. I believed him and when we went to retrieve it, suddenly no one knew about the camera. So be warned....they have a total scam going on with these cameras where they JUST TAKE THEM FROM YOU! And there is not a thing you can do about it......I will never go back there. read more
