All was well up until recently when the barber became unfriendly and impatient for no apparent reason. He was unwilling to listen to my son's wishes and trimmed off more than he had asked. My son had to literally say, "please stop trimming it, you're making it way too short!"... I'm not asking for special treatment because my child's on the spectrum, but regardless of his issue, I think it's unprofessional for the barber to not take the time to listen to their customer's wishes. We will no longer be coming here. Sad!

I finally decided to search around for a new place, online, and the positive reviews I was seeing for Gary's on multiple search places, led me to give it a try. Arthur was my barber, he did a great job, fantastic haircut exactly as I asked. He was also friendly, skilled, and I never have to wait long to get my haircut. The Factory is on a well trafficked corner with plenty on street parking and very easy to find, with the striped barber pole outside. Santiago is a young well built gentleman from Columbia whose English is passable. He is very kind and well mannered. He asked me repeatedly as he was doing the haircut whether I liked it and how I liked it. He did a fantastic job, especially incredible because this was the first time he met me. I would recommend Santiago and the factory to anyone. There is another barber there named Franklin, who I did not meet, but also has a good reputation.

The second time we went back, for the same scheduled spa shave, he received a quick electric shave. He never had that before and imagine his shock, surprise, and sting his face experienced when the man slapped aftershave on him. We explained to the woman in the front that was not the service we booked. My son wasn't comfortable enough to tell the man because he could understand the older gentleman and didn't want to be disrespectful. The point we tried to make with the woman is the service booked wasn't provided. She kept saying that we paid less anyway and would give our money back. We didn't want our money back or to argue but wanted them to be more considerate when providing a service. They should look at the service that the client booked. She was sharp and curt and it was pointless to continue. We received a review from the business that my mom had completed for me. Simple, nothing rude but not recommending the business because they don't carefully make sure a client gets the service they book. WELL don't send for feedback if you can't control your feelings when you don't like the feedback! NOPE!! We would not recommend this business to ANYONE and there are far too many of men's salons to enjoy without the attitude! While in college, I wasn't able to go for a haircut by Ritchie and instead went to joints such as Supercuts, Great Clips, etc. There's nothing on this earth like one of these mom and pop barber shops. Down to earth, clean, and quality. Ritchie is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet, sociable and honest. He's had years of experience at cutting hair and it shows in his final product. A clean cut, attractive and very professional looking haircut. He'll never botch a cut. Each time that mirror's pulled out and he shows you the back neck line, it's perfect. Since Ritchie works solo and this place is more than popular in the area, you may have a good hour wait on weekends at peak times. Just give him call beforehand and ask if there's a wait. He'll be honest and upfront with you. Cuts are reasonably priced, $22 on weekdays and $25 on weekends. If you haven't yet discovered the Rye Ridge Barber shop, you're overdue.

So why 3 stars...Richie was very nice, very chatty and that means things take a long time. Not everyone wants to chat, but I get it. This also not a huge issue to me. More annoying- the price is not really the price. Listed prices are 28-29 for a hair cut, 30+ for long hair. The person before me, was charged you 28$. I was sitting there and watching. We had similar hair length (short business cut) so I was expecting the same. After 30 min in the chair I hand him 40$ expecting 12 back and he hands me a 10. Having read the other post about price variability I was annoyed but not shocked. Was he assuming a tip, charging me more for being new? Not sure, either way left a funny taste so I will find something else and less expensive. If I'm in a pinch, I'll consider returning but will plan on having exact change.
