Our wonderful Airbnb recommended a visit to this nearby nature preserve (walking distance from where we stayed...) and it was a GREAT for a mid-morning stroll (should have gone at sunrise, but VACATION!!) The park looks small-ish from the main road, but venture in and check out the beautiful boardwalk that will have you "up close and personal" with the mangroves, lots of informative signs about the "residents" of this preserve, and if you're luckier than we were, apparently lots of birds and other creatures. The trail is not incredibly well-marked, but it's short enough that even a wrong turn or two won't leave you hopelessly lost. Clean, scenic, COOL in the shade, and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!! Enjoy!!

Unusually configured Beach Park with parking and restrooms on the opposite side of the street from…read morethe beach. Crossing is not difficult, however, because there is a crosswalk button that doesn't activate just a yellow flashing light, but rather activates a regular stop light. The path to the beach is paved and bordered by trees which makes it pretty. The are two multi head beach showers. The beach is wide enough not to feel crowded but not so wide that the walk to the water seems like an excessive distance. The water is shallow for a considerable distance from the shoreline (Note: as of the date of the review but may change the next time a tropical storm comes by). Most people seem not to know this is here. Just driving by, and from the name, people might assume it's a picnic area or playground that faces the intracoastal rather than a beach access park. Anyway, the parking lot never fills and the beach area is decently populated (mostly people from the motels) without feeling crowded. Nice place. Parking price is only a dollar an hour. This is a tie for the lowest price pay lot on the barrier islands.

Went to Ridgecrest Park during the week and couldn't believe how tranquil and quiet it was. I took…read moremy little guy to get some energy out on the playground. I was my first time at this park and it was pretty clean and well maintained. As you enter the park there is some outdoor workout equipment. There is plenty of parking through out the park. Picnic shelter and bathrooms are also available. There were also benches throughout the park and near the playground. The playground has a toddler play area and an older kids play area which is great! Not all parks have a toddler area. The older kids playground is completely shaded and the toddler area has only some shade. I didn't checkout the lake area but will the next time we visit.

The oak trees provide plenty of shade, though not over the playground, which have shade tops, but not totally covered. One pavilion, plenty of benches. The kids loved the playground! We've been trying out some different biking trails around the Orlando area. We've now visited the…read moreSeminole Wekiva Trail twice. We like it because it's more scenic than some other paved trails. It's also quite long, so you can choose how far you want to go. The first time we kept going alongside I-4 in Lake Mary, but the second time, we turned and went over I-4 (yes, OVER) and then continued down the trail that way before heading back. Coming from Winter Garden, the San Sebastian Trailhead is the closest jumping on point, and it's also near the beginning of the Trail. The trail does extend a couple of miles further across 436 and down by the Costco, but it seems too busy and trafficky that way. My GPS didn't take me to the correct spot for the trailhead, though, so be careful of that. The road to the trailhead is next to the left of the Rooms-to-Go parking lot with only a tiny sign indicating it. If you turn into a neighborhood (like my GPS suggested), you can't get to the trailhead from there. I love to see the art work painted on the backs of wooden fences as I bike down the trail. Someone has done of excellent job of making boring fences look exciting. There's also a decent amount of shade throughout the trail, and I love how they've built two tunnels under major intersections for bikes to safely cross.

However, West Orange is like the bike version of I4. Super crowded and you really have to pay attention. I guess the bike trail just mirrors Orange county traffic in general. So over to Seminole county, and it's more relaxed and less busy but no less the fun! We biked on a day where the high was 75. But in the sun it was quite warm. Make sure to wear sunscreen especially on your upper legs. I totally got burned. We began the bike trail in Lake Mary as it runs behind my boyfriend's neighborhood. We biked to Altamonte and then turned back around. We turned it into a mini "food bike crawl" stopping for lunch at Don Julio and snacks at 7 11 and Panera. A wonderful workout and activity to do with friends and for all ages. I can't wait to do the bike trail again soon!

This is a nice little green space. Dogs aren't allowed on the trails but we traversed by the…read moreplayground and Gilligans Island area as well as out on the boardwalk. ***SPOILER ALERT*** The boardwalk takes you out over mangroves and sandy fiddler crab habitat out to a view of the intercoastal. The U.S. 19 of boat traffic. It's a cool water view and nice covered spot to relax and watch boats go by on the water. The park is nice. Audubon Society is planting some trees. Strategic plantings blocking the view of nearby apartments and a large boat storage area would be helpful. Not an isolated or huge nature oasis. Sounds of humanity abound. But def a nice greenspace to checkout. Another one is nearby for turtle lovers. George P. Something or other. No bikes or dogs or such on trail. Some bird boxes around and I've been told bird watching is good here but I prefer to be closer to nature and the sounds of the God Mother.
