This is one of three major access points for the beach in the town of Madeira Beach. It is the northernmost one. It is the best of the three access points. Unlike the center and southern access points it has a restaurant. There are also two volleyball courts and chair and umbrella rentals along with the ability to rent water toys. There is also a wooden Pavilion with picnic tables. Even without the restaurant the amenities are superior to the other two access points at Madeira Beach. The restaurant puts it far above the others. Parking is $2 an hour which ties for second highest on the Barrier Islands (many places charge $2 an hour) When the parking lot is full the beach will be crowded and in the area directly in front of the parking lot you'll probably be 15 feet or less from other beachgoers. On the other hand the crowd thins out pretty rapidly especially toward the north. The sand is good quality, fine and mostly free of shell debris, and it is kept clean. The anti-erosion jetties are a bit of an eyesore but otherwise it is a pretty beach. The park is mostly used by residents of the town and the county. Those staying at the hotel for the North and South have little reason to venture into the Park area except for the restaurant as they can walk out of the hotel directly to a less crowded portion of beach. So the attendees are a good mix of young middle-aged and older people setting and splashing in the water and kids digging in the sand. Not a noisy party beach.

We were in the area just for the weekend with a block of time today to go to the beach. Found this public access park and really like it. Parking available. It was $2 an hour - reasonable. The beach was not crowded and the water was warm. It is not as clear as other beaches, but you could still see your feet through the water. There were a couple places close of you wanted to grab lunch or needed a drink. Bathrooms were clean and they had showers to wash off when you were done. We did not use it, but there were chairs and umbrellas to rent and a couple volleyball nets to use. Lots of shells on the beach if you wanted to look for them. It was clean and quiet. Nice find for the few hours we had to spend.

Great beach. However, they have a Soviet era parking pass machine that baffles most. I blame collusion with the Russians. Who is the rocket scientist who came up with this system? And they have a whopping two machines for the entire lot. Be prepared to stand in line. Still, it's worth the wait. Sigh.

This newly revamped parking area is nice. It's located close to restaurants and grocery stores, so beach goers will want for naught. There appears to be plenty of parking spaces. The biggest downfall is it's awkward to get in and out of this place, but I suppose that was always the case. (Oooh, a rhyme.) It's just located at the intersection of two busy roads, so entering and leaving can be a challenge dependent upon the time of day and whether or not the tourists are here. Otherwise, it'd be a 5.

Beach parking has never been better. Fantastic food, brought to your table. Barefoot is OK! It's the beach. Good food with cheeseburgers and ice cream on the menu. Music on the deck. Liz performs Sundays and Thursdays. She is worth going to; even for a local.

There's sometimes live music, which is nice while you're on the patio but does detract from the beach experience a bit unless you walk a ways.

They had the sand sculptures up and it was amazing. Truly beautiful and incredible to see in person. The beach itself is clean, well kept, and absolutely gorgeous. Parking was not too hard to find and it was reasonably priced, which is always a plus. You can also tell they really cleaned up well after the hurricane. Everything looked great and it was such a nice place to spend the day. I will always recommend this beach.

Paying for parking immediately. Set the tone, especially since there's nothing particularly special about this beach. On top of that, I didn't realize until after I paid for parking that it's not dog friendly, which feels ridiculous for such a wide open public space. Sand, I did venture out for a while and the sound was ultra fine which super annoying. The views are okay and it wasn't crowded which is nice but now I know why. Most of the people I saw were much older and were fully dressed walking on the pathway and not really utilizing the beach. There are so many beaches in Florida. I'm not sure why anyone comes here. Nothing stood out or made us want to stay or really justified all the inconveniences. This beach is just meh and if you're close by ok but definitely not worth going out of your way for.

Treasure Island. Just the name conjures up images of Robert Stephenson's famous book. This Florida…read moreresort town is definitely a different read. The sunsets are still spectacular. Nature won't let you down. But the actual island is slowly going down hill. The famous white sand beach is still there, but is suffering a little from erosion and now has areas of scrub as well. Recently extra sand was imported in, but 2 back to back hurricanes have spread that new sand everywhere but on the beach. Beware of the parking situation. It's funny that you can park in downtown St Petersburg or at Tampa Airport for less money than on Treasure Island. Unless you are staying at a motel or hotel on the beach that gives you a parking space along with your room expect to pay at least $6 an hour for parking on the beach. Stick to city owned parking lots. The privately owned lots are true tourist traps. At Pirate Square strip mall I paid online and still received a $63 parking ticket! There is no way to contact the company to complain and if you pay within a few days they reduce it to $43 to encourage people to not fight the ticket. Fortunately this lot has been torn down but the damage has been done and other private lots are following suit. Every year the Sand Sculpture competition in November and the Kite Festival in January bring back the festival crowds I remember from decades ago. In between times there is just an overpriced resort town as high end luxury hotels and corporate owned tourist trap store chains slowly replace the quaint little motels and local owned shops that gave the area its unique flavor. You can still find some of the Treasure Island spirit but you have to look hard.

Dalton provided expert commentary about the area, even pointing out a few celebrity homes and yachts along the way. It was a gorgeous ride over to Shell Key, and we even saw a few dolphins along the way. Once on the island, we had about 45-50 minutes to explore the beaches and do a little snorkeling and shell-hunting. The island is aptly named, with rows and piles of shells along its white, sandy beaches. The water was warm and perfect for swimming. Soon enough we were back on board and heading back to the harbor. And that's when the magic happened: dolphins! Following along in our wake, and no doubt attracted to the enthusiastic squeals of one of our dolphin-loving fellow passengers, the dolphins put on quite a show. Even Dalton, who I assume sees a LOT of dolphins, was impressed by how long they followed in our wake and performed jumps and flips for us. It was truly one of the most remarkable experiences of my life! Thank you Dalton and Island Ferry for an amazing and memorable tour and one of the true highlights of our vacation!
