Since I've lived here, I've tried a number of different services with a mixed bag of results. A Star was BY FAR the best limo service I have used in the Bay Area. The limo itself was nice - average in looks, features, etc. But the service is what totally makes A Star stand out above the others. Everything was very easy from booking all the way through the day of our trip. The folks on the phone were super helpful and friendly. Our driver, Alex (Alihan?), was a total rock star. He made us feel welcome and totally taken care of from moment one. He was attentive, funny, efficient and professional. He personally made sure every bit of our trip went smoothly: - He stocked, cleaned, and restocked the limo between stops - He always dropped us off and picked us up just at the right time and place - He knew where everything was, including sightseeing stops, the vineyards, and shortcuts - He takes phenomenal great photos, and takes the time to make sure they were posed and framed right - When he noticed someone in the group was walking around with a jacket or sunglasses, he would offer to take the things back to the limo to make our tour more comfortable; likewise, he offered to retrieve things from the limo if we needed them - He took the time to make sure the controls were working, and we knew how to use them. Instead of shouting back to us how to to something, he would pull over and come show us how to do something. - He also took care to make sure we had plenty of water at the end of our day. They try to get around it by saying the fee will be taken off wine purchased, but that was only the case with one of the wineries we went to. Of course they didn't tell us this until we were getting in the limo in San Francisco. Rather than make the situation uncomfortable for my friends, I just decided to roll with it. When he dropped us off in San Francisco he demanded a $172 tip, and would not take anything else. He said that was a mandatory fee for gratuity, and that was not listed anywhere on the voucher. My husband offered him $120 (which I did not agree with at all), and he said no. He kept trying to strongarm us into paying $172. We were so scared, we were seconds away from calling the police. Besides having to pay tasting fees at wineries which were supposed to be included, the driver was trying to intimidate us into tipping $172? We called Alex, and Alex asked us to put Ned on the phone. By this time we were so scared and uncomfortable, we just walked away. It was a total disaster. Ned then called my cell phone and my husbands phone screaming at us calling us cowards for stiffing him. I'm sorry but we offered you $120 and that wasnt enough. No one tried to stiff him, but you get what you get especially when the voucher clearly included false advertising. I have written Travelzoo a complaint, and I encourage everyone this happens to to do so as well. It clearly stated on the voucher that the day would include 6 hours of limo service stopping at 4 predetermined wineries INCLUDING TASTINGS, SNACKS, a bottle of sparkling wine, and bridge toll. The trip started off great, with a nice greeting from Lester and two (halfway decent) bottles of sparkling wine since our limo was full. But! We got to the first winery and our tasting was NOT by any means included. Although it wasn't expensive, the fact that the voucher clearly stated the tastings were included was not very fair to any of the customers. We called Alex, the owner of the business, and he didn't really seem to understand our disappointment. He said the tastings are free "IF YOU BUY A BOTTLE OF WINE." Really??? So we each have to buy a bottle of wine at each of the four wineries to get the value of our voucher? How come it didn't say that ON the voucher? We asked him kindly for a refund for the costs of the tastings, and he said that was absolutely not an option. He actually said he didn't care if we were all disappointed in the way the business is run because he "knows how to run a business." He did offer us an additional 2 hours in the limo, but that wasn't really the point. We all would have been prepared and accepting of the additional costs had we been informed (or at least not lied to) before buying the voucher. Also, there were no snacks in the limo. LIES LIES LIES. Based on the pure beauty of Sonoma and tastiness of their wines, this tour was still lots of fun. Just be prepared to pay more than you were told you would.

We have even had him pick up my boss's pre-teens at the airport on several occasions and we were absolutely comfortable they would not have any problems at the airport and they never waited and always could find their car without any problems - especially great at a very busy SFO. The only drawback is that to book Francisco you need to text him. Once you get used to doing this (as opposed to calling or emailing) it's very easy to get booked and confirmed. The conditions of the limo ride required one week's notice. I emailed the owner/contact person well over a month in advance and included my contact information. When he did not respond, I called and he confirmed that he had received my email and verified the date and time of my limo ride. About one week prior to my event, I called him again to confirm. He was confused, but finally found my information and also said he would text me with the limo driver's contact info. He never did and I didn't have a chance to re-confirm until the morning of. At which point he said I had cancelled the day before - which I had absolutely not. I was quite annoyed as I had planned my event well in advance and had several people counting on this transportation. He clearly knew I was mad and said he would check into it and call me back. Moments later I received a phone call from the limo driver himself, who said he did text me the day before, but it was the wrong number. According to the limo driver, he communicated this to the owner and suggested he contact me to straighten it out. He never did, but rather assumed the whole thing was cancelled. When I called the owner back to tell him what the limo drive told me, the owner claimed he didn't have my contact info., which is a lie as I had emailed him this information quite awhile back. This is a completely inefficient and incompetent company. Moreover, the owner was totally unapologetic and made absolutely no effort to try and make things right, none at all.

On the Move did the shuttle service for our June wedding (between the hotel and venue). They got…read morethe job done at a reasonable price, but not without some bumps along the way. The vans were solid, but pretty basic. Roy let us come check them out before the event and helped put us at ease. We wanted to make sure things would run smoothly because the communication before the event had been a little spotty. Roy assured us that he had done the drive from the hotel to our venue many times before and it would be no problem. However, our guests arrived for the ceremony (including my father-in-law) and told me that one of the drivers had asked the guests for directions and had never been to the site before (despite me giving them detailed directions beforehand). On the plus side, they were on time getting our guests where they needed to be. They were particularly helpful with guests who had physical challenges. On the down side, we had reserved one of the vans until very late at night after the DJ was scheduled to stop so that our guests didn't have to worry about getting down the windy mountain road late at night after drinking. The driver told me, 45-60 minutes before they were scheduled to end the shuttle, that she didn't want to make the drive again (although we had two groups of people who still wanted to ride the shuttle). It was disappointing to have to argue with a vendor in front of guests at the end of the wedding night. Overall, I felt like they were fine for the price and Roy was nice, but be sure to be very clear about expectations ahead of time if using them for an event.
