They offer discounted kids' haircuts every Tuesday, and since it was a back-to-school promotion, I expected the shop to be busy. There were around six barbers and about a dozen kids waiting at any given time. We were on the waitlist for about two hours, which I thought was reasonable considering how crowded it was. Unfortunately, once it was finally my son's turn, the experience went downhill. The barber appeared to be rushing through the haircut because of the long line. During the haircut, he accidentally cut my son's neck twice with the trimmer or blade. Both times, instead of acknowledging what happened or checking to make sure my son was okay, he insisted that it "wasn't the blade" and told my son he was overreacting. At first, I assumed my son was just uncomfortable from loose hair on his neck, but afterward he told me he had actually been cut both times. That was extremely upsetting as a parent. Accidents can happen, especially on busy days, but what bothered me most was the lack of accountability and concern after it happened. After doing some research, I learned the shop had changed its name from The Spot to The Firm Studio, and it also appears to have an entirely new staff. Most of the barbers looked very young and inexperienced, and based on our experience, that showed in the quality of the service. Another issue is the customer service. This wasn't my first visit, and every time I've walked in, there has been little to no greeting or acknowledgment from anyone in the shop. A simple "We'll be with you shortly" goes a long way, but instead it feels like customers are ignored. Professionalism and communication are just as important as the haircut itself. While $25 for a kids' haircut is an attractive price, parents should consider whether the savings are worth the risk of an inexperienced barber working on their child. I don't mind waiting for good service, but I do expect a safe haircut, professionalism, and basic customer care. Based on my experience, I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this shop for children's haircuts.
