Towne East Square - should I be concerned? - Shopping Centers Near Me - Wichita, Kansas

AVOID! DO NOT VISIT THIS SHOPPING CENTER! The management of Towne East just subjected me to a deeply disturbing incident. While I was walking by, a private security dog started barking and snarling, and the next thing I know, a private security officer is asking me whether I was carrying any firearms or explosives. (Where exactly I was supposed to have secreted such items while wearing a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, I do not know.) So, first of all, the mall's security dog is flagging visitors for carrying hazardous materials EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT. The security system is unreliable. And second, the security dog does not merely make a signal in these circumstances. This dog -- an enormous German Shepherd -- began barking loudly, leaping in the air, and charging at the end of its leash. It was TERRIFYING -- and the dog did this to me twice. All I can say is that I'm thankful I don't have a weak heart. It took a long time to stop shaking. I called the mall manager's office several times, but there was never an answer. No one is keeping watch there, and meanwhile there is a dog terrifying and harassing mall visitors. THIS MALL EMPLOYS A MAN WITH A DOG THAT TERRIFIES PASSERSBY AT RANDOM. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. read more

First time coming here. Never have I ever been to a mall in the Kansas area but this is a fair sized, common mall. Plenty of development here in an age where malls are seen as obsolete. This mall is alive and well. Plenty of great stores, people to name a few. It does lack restrooms and variety of food choices in my opinion though it's definitely culturally diverse. Plenty of parking and well known stores. read more

I was there on a Friday late afternoon. There were homeless people lingering at the doors, and the store was not stocked very well. Staff were unhelpful, and not very courteous. read more

This place used to be so busy when I was growing up in wichita but now it's gotten very sad with empty store fronts. I suppose I prefer a not so packed mall compared to a super busy one where you can't walk around. I only went in for one store and I suppose this place provides what I need but you can definitely see the effects of online shopping. read more

I enjoyed my two visits to this mall during my recent visit to Wichita. Both visits were on the weekend, and both times there was plentiful parking and not many people (not as many as I am use to at a mall in Milwaukee, at least!). There are two-stories of great shopping, including several department stores, all the "usual" mall stores, a few unique shops (Like The Third Planet), and a central food court. I couldn't believe there were two Auntie Anne's Pretzels - one on each floor; however, there was a huge line at the one near the food court and I was told there is always a line there. The mall and stores were all very clean and well kept. The bathrooms were challenging to find, they could use better and easier to read signage. I had a very relaxing and fun shopping experience here. I can see how this is a "one stop spot" for locals, and it was also fun to experience as a tourist :) read more

I was pleased to be able to walk through the mall without being accosted by salespeople. It must be a slow day or nobody cares on a Friday. Nobody offered to help us ( we didn't need any) and were able to shop undisturbed. We were mainly window shopping. read more

More stores needed but its not too bad. U have your usual; dillards, pacsun, victoria secret, old navy, abercrombie, aerie, limited. There's a higher end store, Von Maur thats nice. I always look at the clearance section. Food court needs more good vendors. read more

Don't go to Vintage Stock in towne east. The employee in the store just followed us around. In Vintage Stock ..... where everything is under $30. If I didn't have that much money, I wouldn't have come to the mall. read more

I find this mall alive and doing well. Definitely a better mall than Towne West Mall. This one is a two story mall with the food court in the middle. Store/Shop wise you will find your average stores you find in most malls with the exception that I noted more unique stores than most malls I've visited. Also of note in regards to the previous reviews, I saw many families with young children in the mall. Whatever negative light was seen in the previous reviews was not see today. read more

Shopping mall with a few good stores. Nothing special. This is the place if you need something now or need to walk around.

"Gangs" and "violence" were why I wasn't allowed to hang out at the mall with the other 12 year olds. I wasn't too surprised. I could see how this place could drive a person to violence. Still better than Towne West, though. read more

Went I'm Dillards to help my friend find a dress. Found something cute, went the check in the women's department, 2 employees standing there. Neither of them even acknowledged us. Never said hi how are you. Just rang the item up. We walked off and I thought, what is her name. I went to get name and it was Felicia. Mgmt, please let staff know, they should ALWAYS speak to customers. read more

The best indoor mall in wichita. There are many better malls in Kansas...but this is the best you can get in Wichita. Good variety of stores, clean food court & bathrooms, and plenty of security guards. The reason it only got 3 stars is because I've been to many other better malls..Simon malls (the company/mall owner) could do better. read more

Nice mall, the stores are nice. Von Maur, Dillards and some of the regular retailers. A nice place to go and walk the mall. There is also a Coach store and several place to eat in a food court area. read more

I always prefer Towne East over Towne West just because it is a little nicer and has a wider selection of stores. It's always fairly busy, which is a good thing for a mall. The food court is pretty nice, as well. I just can't justify giving more than three stars when comparing to other malls I've been to. For Wichita, though, this is the place to go for your general shopping needs. read more

There are some great stores in here. I am glad that seem to be trying to keep up with the bigger towns. Compared to Towne West it is soooooo much nicer!. I like that there is always plenty of parking. There is food upstairs and downstairs now. You have to try Beard Papa's. It's my new favorite! read more

Nice mall, but beware of the food court. I refused (politely, I might add) free samples of orange chicken from a Chinese food vendor and, once I turned to walk away, the lady threw the chicken at my head. I was so surprised that an angry Asian woman threw chicken at my head that I couldn't do anything but laugh and walk away, but for those who are less carefree... beware of the Chinese vendor of the Food Court. read more

I disagree with the review that says there are "many better malls in kansas" The only better mall in the state would be Oak Park mall in Overland Park as the rest are all smaller or dying. This mall has a nice selection of stores and was beautifully renovated a few years ago. I fell safe at this mall and have never had any problems. People in Wichita just complain because they think they deserve more than what this mall has to offer and in some ways they're right, but this mall has Von Maur and it's more upscale then any macys i've ever been in. read more
