I am a titanium elite with Marriott so I am well aware that more often than not Marriott properties are old, run down in desperate need of renovations, or at least very dated. I chose this property because it claimed recently renovated and it mostly is. But the exception is the TVs , which are only slightly larger than a computer screen and really thick, so obviously very old. The kitchen was mostly ok, but if you are going to do some cooking just be aware that the stovetop is one of those models , with those cooking coils that don't even lay flat. That model was old in the 90s! So if a TV or stovetop are important just know they were not included in the renovation. But the staff was professional and accommodating, not always the case at Marriotts. read more

TownePlace Suites is a Marriott property located on Briarwood Circle along with other nicer hotel properties recently built in the last 10 years or so. It's also walking distance to Briarwood Mall. The staff here have always been warm and welcoming and on this last visit were even able to accommodate an early check-in. The guest rooms are little efficiencies with everything being clean and modern. I'm a stickler for staying at a clean hotel and this place has been spotless on every visit. There is plenty of closet space and storage as well as a large desk area. I only stayed overnight this time but if I was staying longer this would be a place I would want to stay. They have a fully stocked kitchen with all the essentials. The bathrooms are large and clean. Modern hotel chains are ditching the standard bathtub in favor of standup showers but I still prefer the bathtub/shower combo. There's a swimming pool, fitness center, and a free hot breakfast every morning which is always appreciated. Even if you're just grabbing a cup of coffee on the way out it's a nice added touch. The rates can fluctuate depending on U of M related activities (football games, graduation, etc) but I've been able to score this place for a very reasonable price through third-party like Priceline or Hotels.com. read more

In January, I was at the TownePlace Suites Ann Arbor for 2 weeks due to a business trip in Ann Arbor. My experience: Pros: + The staff were all awesome and deserve a raise. Each and every person I encountered (front desk, breakfast, management) were super helpful. + The breakfast was on the nicer end of what you would expect from a TownePlace. And as a road warrior who has stayed at his fair share of undesirable TownePlace's, this means something. + WiFi speeds were capable for work. Cons: - The property needs a refresh. Rooms are dated. Pillows are old and need to be replaced. - The hotel is very poorly sound insulated. Which is a massive problem because of how close it is to the highway. From the rooms, you can throw a baseball and hit a car on the highway. All night long, I could hear trucks passing by and it was brutal. Even with ear plugs and a noise machine, I was kept awake all night by how loud it was. read more

Good stay overall. The room was pretty spacious (2 queen bed). The TV is small for the size of the room. The presence of a dining table and kitchenette was great for us. The breakfast was ok. I really wish hotels would provide a healthier and diverse breakfast. For the vegetarians among us, the options were really only limited to bread and sweet breakfast items. Lots of free parking, which is great. It is a little more expensive that I would've liked, which is a Marriott thing and also an Ann Arbor thing, since everything was more expensive than I expected! read more

This is one of my favorite TownPlace Suites and I look forward to staying here when in the area with works. It's a newish property and comes with lots of nearby foodie food choices and shopping with it on the mall's loop. Plenty of walking too, if that's your thing. I don't know, I've stayed here weeks at a time here and there over the last few years and every experience has been a good one. Tip top ship shape house keeping and top notch hospitality. Consistent too. I mean, basically, they're running on the proof of concept level here. So when am I coming back again? lol read more

I stayed here for 5 nights because I was visiting my daughter for Christmas and wanted to be close to her apartment. Here are the reasons for the 4 stars. First they honored my specific requests that are on my Marriott Bonvoy profile. They have full kitchens, comfortable beds, free parking. The location is good because it's right across the street from a mall. Many food places within driving distance. The free breakfast is decent. It was pretty much the same thing every morning, scrambled eggs and sausage patties. There was bread, muffins, waffles, oatmeal, etc. Coffee is available all day in the lobby. Staff was nice and courteous- even the housekeep staff went above and beyond. In the summer months they also have a grill that can be used. Here is the reason why I did not give 5 stars. This hotel is pet friendly and I didn't know this. (My fault I should have done my research) but there were many people with dogs. I'm allergic. The other thing is my room (410) smelled like a cat urinated either on the couch or on the carpet close to the couch. My daughter was unable to stay with me one night I wanted her to. I didn't ask to switch because Matt was able to allow me to check in earlier than expected. I would stay again but would check the room for odors. I am very sensitive to smells so that one is on me. They are basic rooms with a smart TV but you can't download any other apps that aren't downloaded already. Netflix was on it and so was YouTube and pandora. read more

We stayed here from July 19 to July 29, 2020. We have stayed here in the past and have never been disappointed. It was a little more challenging due to Covid as they wanted to protect their patrons and their staff which is certainly understandable! We simply had to ask for clean linens when wanted and we placed our garbage outside the door for pick up. Our room had a very nice kitchen that and we were able to prepare some light meals there although we were invited to my sisters pretty much every night for dinner. One of things I love about this property is the location. It is right across the street from a large mall. Again affected by Covid but it was there nonetheless some of the stores were operating. There's also a huge retention pond and lots of sidewalk to walk our dog on along with a nice grassy area as well where they kept a post for dog waste and poop bags. We always carry our own but it's extra nice when you know the grounds care about their upkeep even though they allow pets in their property. Management here is very nice. I fell over near the mall I'm one of the trails and broke my foot and they were really nice about helping us ensure that we had what we needed without me having to walk back-and-forth and ask. We definitely recommend this location. We've had nothing but positive experiences here and really appreciate it!!! read more

*CAUTION* staying at this hotel. I am a seasoned traveler and am titanium elite status so when I say this I know what I'm talking about. This is the sneakiest ownership I have come across in 10 years of travel. I booked my room rate at $179 for 3 nights and this hotel charged me one night at $999.00 and will not remove it. This is so sad! I will challenge and dispute this amount charged to me. Any response given by the hotel management after this review to justify their actions is insufficient as I can promise no one in their right mind would pay $999 for one night at a Townseplace. Marriott loses this battle as I will be switching hotel brands due to this shady style of business practice. Truly unbelievable! Please watch your bill closely when you leave. read more

Great hotel! So sad we only got to stay one night. The suite was wonderful and had everything you would need to live comfortably in it, even a great little kitchenette. The staff was friendly and the room was updated, clean, and comfortable. The included breakfast was great, too, and my son loved making a waffle. Super convenient to downtown Ann Arbor and nearby University of Michigan (short drive). Lots of nearby food and recreation. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others. read more

Spent the week at Towne Place Suites. It is nice to have a kitchen when you are staying somewhere for a long period. Although I rarely use more than the fridge and the sink. Rooms were clean and nice. Breakfast was free in the lobby which is always a plus, especially when there is free coffee. Solid hotel with good rooms. Can't go wrong staying here. They also have a nice pool to relax in and a workout room as long as there are not that many people in there at one time read more

I often come to Ann Arbor for business and try to stay here whenever I can. Previous experience with this and the other hotels nearby have brought me to the conclusion that I would prefer the TownePlace over the others in the area. The suites are nice...always in a one-bedroom, so that's my only reference. Microwave, standing fridge, even a dishwasher. During my latest stay, found out they upgraded their TV's to internet TV, so I don't even have to bring my firestick to access my netflix or HBO when I'm out here, which is AWESOME! Typical complimentary breakfast, usually sausage or bacon and some type of egg for bfast...cereals, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit...etc. Good enough for me and enough to get me goin just before I have to head out for work. Gym is small, but hey, so is every other gym in practically every hotel. If you wanna find a good gym, there's an LA fitness in the circle...or you can run around the circle, hehe. I've had long stays here and short stays...this hotel is great for either. You get a lot of bang for your buck here (*Prices can change drastically based on the events occurring though; don't forget you're really close to UM), so based on the value alone in addition to the aforementioned items, this is my go-to. read more

I love this place. The suites are great, the location perfect and everything is clean and bright. Why have I downgraded them a little (from 5 to 4)? Well there are a few reasons: Last winter and spring the staff were super friendly and pleasant, now they are OK. Last winter and spring there would be a stack of USA today's so I could pick one up daily (admittedly not for the news but for the TV guide), now there are none left other than a screwed up, second hand leftover by 7.45am Thirdly they only have carbs for breakfast (how about something else guys - like Fairfield and Springhill). Plus last year the fruit was fresh, now (see pic) it is potluck - is there old brown banana or a dried up orange? Finally they hike their prices by 25-50% in the summer making me stay elsewhere (my favorite Fairfield at the airport - with cooked breakfast, awesome staff, abundant newspapers and year round good prices for elites and regulars) and drive an extra 25 miles each way every day. A little effort and they would have an extra 60-70 nights a year from yours truly! read more

This place was pretty nice. I liked their breakfast in the morning, couldn't ask for more form a hotel. The rooms were very nice as well. The AC here in the summer can get down to 54, i know from experience. I tend to lower the AC as low as it goes, because in most of the rooms I've stayed in they only get down to maybe 65, well after a day of being out and about, i came back to a room that was 54, it was frigged. I actually turned it all the way out and broke out the extra blankets and went to sleep, so cold, so awesome. If i was in the area, i would defiantly stay here again. read more

First the pros: Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. A fairly nice mid-range hotel. I stayed in a King studio. Loved the full size fridg & kitchen. Huge closet and plenty of drawers. Great use of a small lay out (other than the bathroom). Cons: I have been an Elite Platinum and Gold member for over 20 years. I tend to always choose a Marriott property when I need a hotel stay because of the excellent friendly service and the small perks that come along with earning that elite membership. I hate to say this, but this hotel is not living up to the Marriott name. I requested two extra feather pillows & washcloths from the app two days before our arrival. That request was ignored. I requested a high floor, again ignored(woman traveling on their own it is imperative for safety reasons). I'm supposed to get a room upgrade. That could not happen because it was a packed house(that is understandable). No free bottle of water at checkin. When I asked, the front desk told me I could buy one. When I asked "how much"? The front desk clerk asked me to wait while she finished up something. I stood there for at least 10 mins while she looked to be counting change or something. I could understand if she had been in the middle of doing that when I first came down to the front desk to inquire about my bottle of water and my extra pillows, but she was not. In fact, both times when I came to the front desk(checkin @ 5:30 & to inquire about the water & pillows) she was in the room behind the desk. The coffee station & the free carafe of water were not maintained. During the period when I was awkwardly standing around waiting for her answer to the price of a bottle of water, I wandered over to the coffee bar & saw the 1/4 full carafe of warm water, but no cups anywhere. I had to open up the storage cabinet and grab out a couple of disposable coffee cups myself in order to give my daughter a cup of warm water. A few minutes after we drank our warm water, she gave me an answer...$4. I'm fairly sure there is only one ice machine...down in the lobby not on each floor. I checked in around 5:30ish. I asked for late checkout (which is part of the Elite membership perk). She said 2:00 was the best she could offer, which was great. My daughter was in a program in Ann Arbor the next day which required me to get up at 5:00am & drop her off by 7:00 am & not return for her until 3:30pm. This huge lapse in time is why I chose staying in a hotel & why I chose a Marriott. I wanted to come back & sleep, do some work & relax in my room. I knew I had until at least 2:00 & would not have to sit in my cold car. The front desk called me at noon and tried to revoke my late checkout because of staffing shortages. I very firmly said "absolutely not." I was not packed up or ready to go at noon. Just that morning, while at breakfast, I heard a couple ask for late checkout and were granted it. Breakfast was abysmal. It was presented well and the lady maintaining it did a great job. I think it was the ingredients that were provided to her that was the issue. The eggs and bacon had absolutely no flavor...they tasted like nothing. It reminded me of having Covid & not being able to taste or smell anything. I know these are little things, but they added up to make our stay less than comfortable and we felt a little unwelcome. For almost $200 a night (also they would not let us use our Marriott points to pay for the room) and the Marriott name, I have come to expect a little better. What good is an Elite membership if you are refused all the perks( a simple bottle of water) when you stay? Do better. read more

I've stayed in 6 other hotels while visiting Ann Arbor, and was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It's clean, rather new, and bright hallways! The rooms are larger due to extended stay. This will be the hotel we use for our future Ann Arbor visits. The front staff are very welcoming and even asked how they could improve our stay when we checked out! I like how the front desk is minimized, why do thy need a large area to begin with? The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen area has an area without carpeting which is great. They have complementary breakfast service. There is fruit all the time in the front lobby. read more

What a difference a day makes. The Marriott Towne Suites Ann Arbor embarrasses it's sister property on Dearborn (see my one star review yesterday), with a clean room, friendly reception and even gave me a cookie. As you may know, most hotels are managed by Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt etc., and not owned by them. The owner sometimes cheats on maintenance and operating costs, which can kill a property. Bravo to the owner in Ann Arbor, shame on Dearborn. The regional VP of Marriott is not doing their job policing the Dearborn property. I would pull their flag. read more

My job sent me to take a four-month course at the University of Michigan and I stayed here the entire time. I absolutely love it here! Here are all the reasons why this hotel is awesome: 1. Room is really clean and perfect for an extended stay. It reminds me of studios I've seen and comes with a kitchenette equipped with cooking essentials including: utensils and china, tupperwares, chopping board, chopping knife, even a colander, measuring spoons, and so many other amenities. It has a large closet (again, perfect for extended stay) and a spacious desk area for work. My room was also really quiet, but it was on the fourth floor at the end of the hall far from the elevators, which probably helped. 2. The staff at this hotel is amazing. From the front desk managers to housekeeping, everyone has been extraordinarily helpful, friendly, and conscientious. 3. Free buffet breakfast. It's very convenient not to have to worry about getting breakfast before my program in the morning! I love that the breakfast features protein such as eggs, sausages, and ham in addition to more starchy breakfast foods. A lot of hotels in the area offer a very small continental breakfast (ie, carbs), so the buffet breakfast was a huge plus. 4. Onsite laundry services that includes coin-operated washer and dryer. Again, very convenient for extended stay guests. You can buy detergent (and other necessities) near the front desk. 5. Right across from a bus stop. Parking in downtown Ann Arbor and near the campus is a nightmare, but luckily the hotel is only a 3-minute walk to the Briarwood Mall bus stop. I was initially worried about not getting a rental car during my stay, but the Ann Arbor bus system is pretty efficient. From the bus stop, there are two bus lines into the city/campus, one of which also stops by Whole Foods. **I will caveat #5 by noting that the hotel is not within walking distance to downtown Ann Arbor or the UMich campus. So this is a disadvantage if you're looking to walk to the downtown restaurants and bars, or to the campus, and not be confined by the city bus schedule (which doesn't run often on Sundays). However, the flip side is that the hotel is in a quiet location. 6. Hotel has an indoor pool! I am a swimmer, so staying at hotels with an indoor pool is always a plus. Of course, it is a standard hotel-sized pool (not an Olympic pool), but I can still swim laps, especially in the mornings or late afternoons when no one else is at the pool. I looked at a few other hotels in Ann Arbor, but ultimately decided on TownePlace Suites and am so glad I did! I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you're traveling on business or are looking for an extended-stay hotel...or even if you're visiting Ann Arbor for a short period. If my work sends me back to Ann Arbor for future programs, I will definitely stay here again. read more

We received a gift certificate from a friend to stay here so we used it last-minute when we needed to be in A2 early on a Friday morning. The staff was extraordinarily nice, both at check-in as well as when we asked for a roll away (typically asking for a roll away gets eyes rolling by the staff) and again when we went to the lobby later for some "snacks". The hotel was really clean (I'm sure partially because it's new) and the kids loved the pool. I stay in mid-range hotels frequently for work and if they all could be this clean, accommodating and just plain nice it would make travel so much more pleasant! read more

We booked this room due to its convenient location to where we needed to be for the weekend in Ann Arbor and were very pleased with our experience. Very clean and felt like new. The price is about comparable to other hotels in the area, so not a bargain if that's what you are looking for. But with a full kitchenette and ample shopping in the area, you can save a some money by not having to eat every meal out. read more

So this is still a new hotel so the minute you walk through the lobby door you smell a "new" smell. It is clean and the staff is friendly. We had to stay here due to a power outage at our house. My kids loved the pool and hot tub because they had beach balls and noodles. The rooms are spacious and really nice. Granite counters in kitchenette and bath. Compimentary breakfast too. Wifi was fast, and not irritating, as some wifi connections in hotels are. There's always fruit in the lobby--apples, mostly, but they were appreciated. The staff was friendly, helpful. This place was just awesome! You could never go wrong with a place that already has a very high rating on Yelp. My family and I visited Michigan for the first time just last week. Initially I had no idea which hotel to choose from. I picked the one with the highest rating on Yelp, and boy, am I glad I did. First of all, the staff is very friendly and hospitable, especially Karli who was obliging to every request I made. I felt bad about bothering her so much, but she was so courteous and helpful. The place was immaculate, and that's saying a lot coming from a clean freak. They even have a very nice kitchenette (marble counter-top) with almost every amenity you could think of. The free breakfast every morning was great also. They even have a waffle maker to make fresh, delicious waffles. read more

I can't believe I was staying at a neighboring hotel (same parking lot) with higher prices and fewer amenities. LOVE the built-in kitchen, dining area, bathtub, 24 hour gym and easy access to shops. This place was one of the nicer places I have stayed for sure. They just redid everything in the place so it is all modern from the lobby to the rooms. We stayed in a suite which has a full kitchen (with a toster) king size bed, and very nice updated storage units. I highly recommend this place to anyone read more
