    Torn curtains.

Review of TownePlace Suites by Marriott, Mukilteo, WA Stayed Thursday, September 11th through the 16th while visiting family. Upon arrival, we went to our room, unpacked for a 5-night stay, and left to join family. Shut the door, checked to make sure it was locked, and it came right open! We repeated the process twice with no success, then saw 2 housekeeping staff going by so we asked for assistance. They were non-English speaking, so we pointed to our door and demonstrated to them how it would not lock. Apparently, one of them had radioed the front desk, and the maintenance man arrived. He easily opened what should have been a locked door, fiddled with the knob on the inside, closed the door and thought that would do it. My husband told him to try the handle, and it came right open without a key in sight! After 2 more attempts of this ridiculous routine, it finally locked. We said this was not acceptable. He told me to call the office. Before he left, I asked him to remove the used condom 3 feet from our outside door! He actually picked it up with his ungloved hand!!! The receptionist said we could move to another room, but they had no downstairs rooms available. We requested downstairs 3 months earlier when making this reservation since there are no elevators. At 78 and 76, carrying heavy luggage up the stairs is very difficult. Plus, we had just unpacked everything for a 5-night stay. My husband finally was able to jiggle the door to keep it locked but had to do this and worry about our safety and belongings for the entire stay. The carpet was so dirty, I started wearing socks. Photos show the thread bare linen that I washed my feet with and the dirt on my socks. Plus, we were given 1 washcloth for 2 people. We were able to catch a housekeeper and given more washcloths. The curtains were uneven at the bottom and torn at the top. The smoke alarm went off after each shower as the fan did little to nothing to dissipate the steam. Windows remained steamed up for over an hour afterwards. The bathroom door would not stay open and would hit you as you stood at the sink. Television worked intermittently, sometimes it would come on and other times, it would not. First shower I took I discovered the hair conditioner dispenser was empty. The most frustrating issue, other than the door, was that we stayed here 2 years ago for same length of time and our experience was 90% better!!! It is why we were expecting the same during this stay. What a disappointment and miserable stay. The number of points we used at this rundown, neglected property, got us a week's stay in a lovely resort in Williamsburg, Virginia earlier this year. Marriott should send a corporate member to inspect this horrible location and make a sweeping change in management and upgrades as this is a very poor representation of their (Marriott's) proud name.

Tacky looking repair when replacing the damaged molding would have cost less than the labor involved here.

Stayed 3 nights and for the price paid not bad but not great either. No traffic noise however I was awaken all 3 nights by a crying baby above me at O dark thirty. The picture of door security repair looks like a third world country repair. Replacing the molding would have been cheaper than the labor spent to make this tacky repair. The complimentary breakfasts were commercially prepared breakfast sandwiches on warming trays and every heated item contained cheese and I unfortunately have a dairy allergy! Fruit, juices and breads are also offered.

Grime on shower , could have been easily cleaned but hasn't been touched in forever obviously.

Horrible and disgusting room! I would never stay here! Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Grime, hair and dirt in tub , crumbs and dust on floor, bugs in window , and nasty stuff on the counter and in sink. We stayed for 10 minutes and had to leave . Our other family member was getting a room as well so we both had to find a new place to stay!!! No way either of us were staying there! The staff is not helpful and will not refund saying they don't know how ? Horrible place . We went to hotel down the street and saw three other people that left as well. Don't waste your money here !

The price was fine but the lack of supervision, customer service and overall maintenance of the price reflected in the price. There was kids screaming and running down the hallways, people cheering and screaming, etc. Even worse, this was not the hotel that I thought I had booked but that was my error. We stayed here during Geekfest and it wasn't the worse drive to and from. The breakfast here is decent with plenty of options but they were always out of something and it took a good while to get it out. The breakfast employee was probably the most friendliest employee at that hotel though. The hotel room was decent with a little kitchenette along with utensils, pots and pans to use. They don't do housekeeping every day which is fine. The AC in the room was working pretty well, not too cold or weak. The parking here can be a bit tough especially if there are events as we struggled to find parking every so often. I might come by here in the future with our dogs as they are pet friendly but we'll see our other options options.

When we got into the hotel itself the welcome desk and entry way was inviting && clean. When entering the room to investigate the room - it was an interesting layout. There was a long hallway with a kitchenette in their king bed room. The only unfortunate thing was that the refrigerator didn't work and the bathroom was a little interesting to say the least. I think this place is a solid 3. The thing that set it apart was the service. The front desk service man was awesome and the continental breakfast was pretty god the thing that really made the stay!

The breakfast options were not appealing to me, however, with too much emphasis on standard meat fare and seemingly little vegetarian or plain options. Access to the hotel was confusing, snaking through several other businesses and parking lots, and the surrounding area did not seem especially desirable. Nonetheless, there are many businesses and dining options within walking distance, which was helpful to me operating without a car during my stay.

I immediately reported it to the front desk, and we spent over an hour late at night trying to find a suitable sleeping arrangement for our exhausted children. To avoid any misunderstanding: the fact that Suite 127 was a complimentary upgrade, or that a rollaway bed had previously been provided at our request, does not change the issue. Every bed provided to a guest should be clean and sanitary. The additional rollaway was necessary because the sofa bed was unusable. The General Manager acknowledged in writing that the mattress "should have been identified and addressed before the room was assigned." I am an IHG Platinum Elite member and gave the hotel an opportunity to resolve this privately. I was offered 20,000 points, which I did not consider appropriate given the circumstances. After I requested further consideration, my follow-up emails went unanswered. A serious cleanliness failure and a very disappointing experience. I have photos documenting the condition.

We did the tasting at their restaurant Passage but I will make a separate review of that. On Saturday we borrows their bikes and ride to the Bayview farmers market, walked the beach in low tide and just spend time enjoying our surroundings. If you're thinking of staying here for the first time, you will probably enjoy it a lot. To be clear, my wife and I have stayed the IAL many, many times over the past decade +, loving this property, people and restaurant for the warmth and personal touches it had never failed to deliver. It has been where we have gone to celebrate our anniversary every year for the past 11. Our stay this past weekend (Sept 2026) will be our last. Since the acquisition by Akin Hospitality, the warmth, character and charm the Schell family imbued into Inn since 1989 has been stripped away. The vibe and physical character of the room and the morning dining experience has become cold and uncaring. Thank goodness Akin Hospitality could not foul up the view from each room...the view from our room deck was the only saving grace from what was an abject disappointment. The check-in/check-out experience: At check-in there was absolutely no recognition, as has been for past years, of our loyalty to the Inn. Also, while it might sound petty, the baskets of unique snacks in the lobby has been taken away, leaving a scant number of "complimentary" packages of nuts and dried apples in the room. At check-out we were not even allowed to enter the lobby to hand in the key. Instead, we were met at the door, asked for the key and merely told "we will email you" the invoice. Literally, there was no thank you for our business, nor any curiosity about or offer for us to comment on our stay (maybe they already know what the feedback will be...). The Breakfast: The new ownership and chef have totally RUINED one huge part of the former IAL experience. In years past, the house-made European-style breakfast buffet has been an huge highlight. Everything was fresh, creative, varied and so-very-delicious. The elegant buffet format naturally invited staff and guests to interact with one another and fostered an air of conviviality to the start of the day ... Fast forward to today, and the "morning table" offering in nothing more than a one-size-fits-all breakfast where what you eat is what everyone else does, too. While positioned as a "personal and curated" breakfast offering from Chef Johnny Spero, it is anything but. While prettily prepared, the new breakfast offering is lazy, cold and uncaring...honestly speaking, the food had all the flavor and charm hotel banquet fare. Plus, nobody interacted with one another and hastily ate and left. That said, "Jonathan" in the morning dining room is a very energetic guy who did his best to make us comfortable. We gave up on breakfast and went to Braeburn Cafe in town for some actually good food. (We did not have dinner in the new format restaurant, Passage). My only assumption here is that Chef Spero is trying to make this restaurant something that it will never be....a "destination." People come here for the Inn (in its prior format), not the restaurant. People of the PNW like to interact with one another, not be isolated from one another. In other words, what plays in Washington DC does not play in Washington State. The Room: As mentioned above, the view from the room is still stunning...hard to mess that up! As for the renovated room, we are not sure what the thought process was. Warmth and northwest-rustic-elegant appointments have been replaced with blandness and starkness. Warm carpet patterns replaced with 70's-chic flat dark brown pile (albeit nice quality). Earthtone natural stone in the bathroom has been replaced with bright off-white 2 inch tiles, giving the once-peaceful bath area a vibe that has all the charm of gym locker room. On the flipside, the choice of tile on the fireplace surround is beautiful...lovely color choice!! My wife and I had a good run with IAL. We're sad it's come to an end. We wish the staff well...
