The bog offers a boardwalk that winds its way through an amazing display of vegetation (the best moss collection; ever!) and hidden tunnels cleared by the adorable turtles that live here. As you move along the path you can truly appreciate its peacefulness as it is very secluded from the clutter that is Kent. There are plenty of interesting plaques to educate you on local wildlife, plants and the surrounding area. There are also plenty of benches available for those of you who have difficulty getting about or just want to enjoy this hidden slice of green blissfulness. The bog is extremely clean, probably due to it not being pet friendly, there are no picnic areas or playgrounds...but if your child loves the mysterious land of gnomes & faeries this is the perfect place to search for them.

There is no charge to get in. The paved road around the lake has been split into a one-way driving/biking road and a with an adjacent walking lane. There is a Hike/bike trail called The Freedom Trail that borders this park. Metro Parks Summit County is going to add a connector trail between them in 2026. The Freedom Trail in this area is a rail trail, so it is pretty flat. There is an area called Tallmadge Meadows that to me is a separate park, because the two areas have very different prior ownership and history, but Metro Parks considers them to be the same park. The parking for Tallmadge Meadows is right around the corner from South River Rd. on South Main St. (Rt 91). There is also a trailhead in Munroe Falls for the Summit County Bike and Hike Trail. It is about a ¼ mile North of South River Rd and runs along the Cuyahoga River. I used to be a Firefighter/EMT in Munroe Falls and it was not unusual for us to get called out to the "Metro Park" and have to ask, "which one"? All 3 of these are great parks and I consider myself luck to live in between them.

However, it's wise to proceed with caution as there is only one way in & out. Small, inconvenient & dense are also a few choice words...as the road leading to the parking lot is so narrow that only one car can fit on it at a time. Why someone would design it this way is beyond me, because if another vehicle is traveling towards you in the opposite direction; you'd both have to reverse all the way to the end. You absolutely cannot drive over the side due to the surrounding woods. Also, there's only room for 3, maybe 4 small cars in the lot. Yet it is a good spot for a VERY short walk or just to get away. There is a small overlook that's great for bird watching as it is surrounded by the lake. If you enjoy bryophytes , there is not a huge variety but you can find at least 3 species I was able to observe. The downside: it's small, NO pets are allowed & it's not handicap accessible.However, the upside is that it's nature- we saw over 3 ugly cookie cutter developments being built all on the same road on the way there; this is probably one of the few pieces of land that hasn't been disturbed by unwanted homes. It was clean, peaceful and uncrowded; perfect for us anti social beings!

I'm not saying don't check it out because it does have some nice features such as: a playground, tennis courts, hiking trails, Campbell's Lodge and it's usually kept pretty clean. However, I couldn't give this place a 5 star review because they are not pet friendly. Also, I realize that (sadly) someone was in a head-on collision this winter and crashed into the beautiful pine trees that used to offer privacy next to the tennis courts. At the most, two trees were damaged but they decided to cut down all of them and it just looks like sh*t now. As for Campbell's Lodge, it's okay.... for Stow residents it's only $75.00 to rent so you can't beat that! And I'll admit, the pics on their site make the interior of the building look like American cheese exploded on every wall (it's not that bad in person, trust me). But if you're looking for a more higher-end facility then this probably wouldn't meet your standards. Otherwise, it's a cute little place in an over crowded city...great for a date or just to clear your mind. :)

The path does narrow but is paved the entire way if you take 'the high road'. You can walk closer to the river if you're feeling more adventurous. There is a boardwalk area with tables and another area that you can walk right down into the river. In warmer months there is a nice waterfall where the lock used to be. The main path for this park is not only very narrow & muddy but also littered with lots of trash. If you enjoy the sounds & smells of nature, you wont find that here either. You are almost directly next to the railroad tracks, a dirty river and a bunch of businesses & apartment buildings. The only nice thing about this path is that it eventually comes out to a paved section where the new bridge was built (this is the only clean area) and when the damn isn't in use; you can view an unimpressive waterfall. However, when when things are closed up for the colder months, the water smells like raw sewage. Graffiti can be a form of art but here it is the exact opposite as almost every surface is spray painted with ugly images or words. Although there is a boardwalk part of the way, there isn't anything worth discovering. Kent needs to spend less money on making new over priced businesses that no one can visit due to the lack of parking & start spending some of the cities money on cleaning it up.
