BEWARE!! You will be billed 10x what you were told with no explanation of the charges. I had high hopes but was extremely disappointed with the integrity of this company. Here's my story... 1. I called Townsley & Associates when I was shopping for a CPA to manage my personal and business taxes. Upon calling, I was told that bookkeeping charges were $65/hr and that if my books were not reconciled it would take some bookkeeping hours to get it there. I agreed. We decided to move forward and work together. 2. I was told early December that we would have time to reconcile the books before the end of the year so that I could know what sort of profit/loss we'd be showing, and determine how to allocate funds if necessary before the end of the year. This never happened. Despite requesting for my accountant, Lea to speak with me and figure out any beneficial strategies to spend some surplus, she never reached out. Instead on the last days of the month she said that there's nothing she'd recommend. She asked if I had a certain retirement plan to which I responded "no, but I'd like to learn about it" and never received a response from her. 3. Next, I needed to know what pre taxes I'd owe before Jan 15th. Lea promised to send this information over and have everything done before the 15th so I'd have time to review. She did not. It's the 20tb I still have not received anything. Actually, I haven't received an email from anyone at Townsley & Associates for over a week! 4. After receiving nothing that I was promised, I was sent a ~$4,000 bill! This was not for any tax preparation. Supposedly this was all time accrued trying to reconcile my books. Instead of charging the agreed $65/hr I was charged $200/hr for this work!! Did I mention that Lea was out for shoulder surgery for two weeks in December, completely unresponsive and unable to work but somehow able to accrue 4K in hourly expenses. I was told that this $4,000 was still not including their fees to actually do the taxes which would be $800+ per business, etc. This company makes better promises than other CPAs. That's why I chose them. But do they deliver on their promises? ABSOLUTELY NOT! As a man who values honesty, ethics, and integrity, I am utterly disappointed in Lea and the team at Townsley & Associates and hope this review can help improve their old and broken methods. read more

Do not go here for any services. We first came here to have our paystubs reviewed around September of 2019 to determine if we will need to withhold extra before December 31 2019 in order to avoid owing on taxes when filing in 2020, we had our initial consult with Lea on the phone. We were give the information in an email from Sandy that did not have a break down of what was done to determine what extra we needed withheld (they just sent payment vouchers) , when I called to have this information explained Lea did not speak with us it was her front staff only. I thought this was very unprofessional as every other tax accountant we have been to we spoke directly with the accountant. We were told to bring in our taxes to file for 2019 and we dropped them off and Sandy at the front desk advised we would be charged not much more to possibly file another tax form. We got an email from Sandy later that day saying we would have to pay a 2nd $150 deposit for a business account on top of the other $150 deposit for the taxes- and last year we were only charged $50 from another company. I called and Sandy said that was what was required and said my husband told her "we didn't file the LLC last year" my  husband was sitting right next to me when I made the call and I told Sandy my husband did tell you this information. Sandy said she would call us back after talking with Lea about it-again not letting us talk directly with Lea. This was on a Friday afternoon, Sandy did not call back and we called the office again and another lady at the front desk, answered the phone and assured us Sandy would be calling back regarding the 2nd deposit by end of business day. Well we never got a call back so we called after hours on Friday and told them we were done with their services.  Monday we had to go back to the office to pick up our papers and make sure they voided our deposit. Sandy at the front desk does not communicate well via email and she is not professional to speak with. She is the one that sent half response emails, emails that were not clear. We should never have wasted our time by giving them another chance to prepare our 2019 returns. I most definitely would not recommend this firm to anyone who wants a professional and honest experience. read more
