The fact that there was no elevator made lugging everything up really annoying and reminiscent of a certain Best Western in Wichita Falls with a broken elevator (see my one-star review on that on my profile). I was going to swim, but there was no water in the pool. In fact, the pool was quite an eyesore, as it was filled with tons of gunk. The buffet in the morning was mediocre at best. I would say that this Best Western was below average (average being your typical Best Western), but definitely wasn't a terrible experience. I just feel that it could have been better in more ways than one. However, if I ever stop in Clayton again, I wouldn't mind staying here at all. I would recommend, especially considering the state of other Clayton hotels.

I noticed a hand written note on the counter in bold letters, we do not accept cash for any reason under any circumstances. That was the first red flag because this has been an issue or that sign wouldn't be there. So basically the scam is, take their money, THEN tell em you don't get what you pay for then scream at em, don't give it back and hope they leave so you don't have to clean a room. It worked!! I was furious and left without a refund before the cops were called as I was stunned at the theft and not cooperating. The minimum wage worker wasn't smart enough to understand I wasn't mad the water was off I was mad she stole my money knowing the water was off. Then yelled it's been long a day at me. I had to haul all my gear in four trips all the way through the hotel and up a flight of stairs because - of course - the keyed entry on the side door right next to the stairs doesn't work! I really wasn't into hauling my stuff in multiple trips to the second floor so asked if there was one available on the ground floor. The front desk lady said that it was the only room of the type I booked that was available and that I could switch to a double (no suite) on the ground floor instead. I opted to keep the suite. When I went back down after finding out the tv doesn't work she said the WiFi doesn't work on "that side of the hotel." That side?! It's not a big hotel by any stretch. And she couldn't be bothered to let me know this before I decided to keep the king suite? I would have chosen the downgraded double just to have working WiFi and tv. It was an absolutely exhausting and infuriating experience after working an 10 hr day and driving all the way across CO. Front desk person has zero communication skills. The only reason for two stars is the hotel is pretty new and not shoddy.
