Other stores seem to have better prices, far more support, accept returns, and most importantly stand by their customers. Ive been in this hobby 25 years..I personally would not recommend Hobbytown Batavia to anybody. They'll try and sneak in bogus labor charges on your receipt (see below). Sorry but I work on my own equipment, and sneaking fake labor charges on receipts is theft...Their "sister store" (owned by the EX-wife of Batavia) in Schaumburg is not any better. In fact, Schaumburg could be worse. I experienced lack of enthusiasm, non-nowledgeable employees, low stock, and an awful shopping experience. Total waste of time. Not a place for young kids either, unless you want them around a bunch of egotistical adults. Dismal business owners dont care about their customers. I will be sharing my experience with fellow RC enthusiasts in the community. Your lack of enthusiasm really shows by all your reviews and poor attitude. When you're in it for the money, it shows. Avoid.

I guess it's clear this isn't a "card shop," it's a scalpers storefront. Don't go here looking for Lorcana--guessing the margins are too low. Except for their singles, which they sell for $2-4....crazy pricing for Lorcana. Anyways, i won't be back. Will have to continue my search for a card shop that's ethical and somewhat reasonable. --------- Edit in response to business reply: 1) i agree conversation could go a long way. But when your pricing on a brand new Pokémon set (which doesn't have a set market yet) is already 3x MSRP, what productive conversation can happen? It's just a straight up gouge. I'm not naive to expect to get everything at MSRP, but i think 3x markup 2 days post launch is unreasonable. 2) i did ask about Lorcana. I was told you "don't carry much" and "didn't have any right now." 3) you seem to be implying that you're aware prices are high and can then be negotiated lower. If that's how you want to do it that's your prerogative, just understand that's offputting for new customers. It's hard to want to establish a relationship and have a conversation when the first impression is being taken advantage of. And when your response to pricing questions is "well the hobby is thriving!" I don't think that's off base.

Upon entry, we were greeted by an employee who was so helpful and genuinely friendly, not only to us, but also to the other customers perusing the well-stocked shelves. Superb warhammer selection. Models, paints, kits. Clean and organized throughout. We went on a Saturday, and there were several players gaming at the tables. Exceeded our expectations. Glad to see this store in the St. Charles/Geneva area. Highly recommend and would return.

I played a game with a friend and someone kept rolling dice on our table then started telling about their stuff from another system and that we shouldn't play the system we were playing and they we were stupid, store manager did nothing. One of my players from a campaign I was running was insulted by a person on another occasion and then a argument broke out because a couple of our friends were defending said player being insulted another time by the same person, this person seems to get a pass for some reason which is not good! Hope things get turned around here, I also recently had a very expensive Horus Heresy campaign book (hard back book 8) stolen out of my bag last time I was in. I will not be going back until this place changes dramatically! Hmmmmm.... not the same, community has gone to crap, really not the same without Ben. It's a large store, which is good for their in-store events (it looked like they have a MtG night, at least; not sure if they have a board game meetup as well). They had a display of Ticket to Ride in the wind wand though I know there are plenty of board gamers who turn their nose up at that one I am a fan. I've been wanting to add a copy of the France/Old West version to my collection because that one has my hometown on the Old West side of the board and I was happy to find multiple copies here so I snagged one. I was with a friend who hasn't really played board games all that much, but she picked up a copy of TTR Asia to try sometime too. The guy running the shop was pretty friendly, and had an extended conversation with another couple in the store and was helpful when I had questions about another game or two I was looking for. This soup is open later than some of the others in the area too, which makes me think that they must have at least a few events that take place throughout the week. There's no dedicated parking, it's all street parking along State.

She wouldn't give us a box to put the bottles in as we selected them. Made us use baskets so the glass bottles rolled around. Sat the baskets of bottles on counter so we could shop and load up new baskets with candy and novelties to make gift bags. She proceeded to tell us we needed to carry the baskets of pop bottles around with us while we shopped. Making our hands full. She couldn't put them on the open empty table behind the register because that was "her work area" and we couldn't put them to the side in the back out of the way because people could trip over it. There was 2 other people in the store...up front. Was told we could pay for the pop, leave and put in car, then come back and shop for more items. Nope... not coming back. You lost over $500 business this visit alone. We have been coming here for many years, hence knowing to come today for what we needed. Every time we've been here in the past, especially busy summer season and during festivals, the people working here were overly helpful, friendly and would always TAKE our full baskets and put on that table behind the counter so we could get empty ones and shop for more. They would give us 4 pack bottle holders or cartons to put pop bottles in as well. So I know everything out of her mouth was a lie. Will not be coming back. You need to review the work ethic and customer service skills with the people you hire. I'm one that never complains about things and chaos a lot up to "having a bad day" but this was ridiculous.
