I've known for a while that there's a thrift store somewhere in the area run by people from my…read morechurch. Last week, I finally realized it was the one I pass by almost every day. (I'm a bit slow on the uptake. don'tjudgeme.) Hours are as follows: M-R: 9 am - 5 pm F: 9 am - 2 pm (3 pm?) Sat: closed (church!) Sun: 12 pm - 4:30 p.m. I was in the market for some warm jackets/coats, because I really only had one warm jacket (yep, one) to keep me alive through the winter, and what if something happened to it!?!? I've also basically been wearing my shoes into the ground, so I figured a pair of boots might be nice for the winter. And yes, retail therapy is a thing. There's a rack out on the porch with free clothes (just don't take the hangers), and the store is somewhat divided into two sections. The left side has mostly kids' clothes and a bunch of warm jackets and the side you enter from has all other clothes + shoes. There are books and various types of food to the right. :O My friend happened to be working there the day before I was planning on going, so I told him what I was looking for and he texted me pictures and prices. Twas pretty awesome. There were a lot of wool jackets that I would have loved to get, but I was way too short and/or shrimpy for them. This wasn't too much of a problem though since I found plenty of other things. :D! For $34.98, I obtained the following: -Red heels that I can actually walk in -Super comfy dark brown heels that I can wear to clinic (yay!) -Leather ankle boots (black) -Leather knee-high boots (black) -Super warm blue winter jacket -Super comfy beige hoodie -Super warm maroon vest -Leather jacket (originally from Yarid's, which I cannot afford) (I also picked up a free sweater from the porch.) Basically, the shoes/regular clothes were $2-3, the jackets were $5 and the leather jacket was $10. I am rather ecstatic over my finds! :] Everyone there is super nice/friendly. Definitely stop by if you're looking for great deals! Cash or check only! [Edit] In response to the review below me (apparently, everywhere you go = a 1 star rating)...in what way do they "do absolutely nothing for the community" and how are they greedy people? They foster kids who have been pulled from drug-addicted homes, host free cooking classes for the community to teach them how to make healthy + delicious meals, operate a school and raise money for families who have fallen on hard times, which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of people out there. Please don't slander others when you have no legitimate reasoning behind it.

I was trying to not spend any money on food-related items until after I ate everything at home (which, honestly, may take until January), but my super awesome neighbor bought me an at-home salad kit the other day so that I could grow my own vegetables. This is a somewhat foreign concept to me because I've lived in northern California suburbs for almost all my life (one year was in a city in New Jersey, but anyway). Growing my own veggies? No wais. :O I have somewhat of a black thumb, if you will. Technically, I'd like to believe it wasn't my fault, but my one and only tomato plant that I tried to grow in my backyard was completely savaged by a raccoon. (RIP, Apollo. :'( ) My cousin bought me a bamboo plant for my apartment since she said it's good to have something alive and green in your living space, so there's that. (Its name is Apollo 2.) My neighbor assures me that bamboo is very hard to kill, so it should be fine. But I digress. The home salad kits are on super-sale right now, so he actually got it for 60 cents. Yes. 60 cents. Since I didn't have class this morning, I made a beeline for the store (thank goodness it was open at 8 a.m. :O ) and left with another salad kit, 2 tomato kits, 2 basil kits (they were out of herb kits, but oh well :[ ), cumin, a sea salt grinder, a DVD, and a loofah for under $10. The staff was also super nice. :D I will likely be back, especially if I hear of such awesome deals again. *-* [edit] They sell 4 oz bags of Maple Nut Goodies, which I've gotten addicted to because my neighbor gave me some a couple weeks ago, for $1! Much cheaper than the $2.25 slightly-bigger-bags-of-them at Walmart!

I found some books for the hotel room for $1, read 'em and leave 'em at that price! Also found some cute holiday decorations for my Aunt's hospital room, again cheap enough to be disposable but surprisingly cute. Nice selection of stuff you don't need and nice staff.
