Gotta love a Trader Joe's run! But not all Trader Joe's are built the same. The quality is always within what's been manufactured, but the store layout and parking situation varies from store to store. I'll break down the pros and cons of this location: PROS Location, location, location! - in the heart of Clarendon, it's very central and easy to get to - right by the metro, if you need to get to the nearest Trader Joe's and live off the blue, silver or orange line, this is a great TJ's for you Kindness goes a long way - the employees here are super nice and always willing to help! CONS Parking :( -parking is scarce but don't try to pull something dumb and park somewhere illegal. You will get caught by the meter police -because parking is scarce, you'll probably have to pay for the amount of time you're here, and then walk there and back Overall, if this is the only Trader Joe's near you, it's worth the value and quality of the groceries and novel food items that they provide.

This was my first visit to this location. I usually don't do any grocery shopping on the weekends, but I was in the area and needed a few things. I grabbed them and went on about my business. As usual, Trader Joe's is crowded. This is one of the smallest stores in the area, so that's no surprise. The staff was polite and stayed busy offering assistance and restocking the shelves. The customers were awful. If they weren't blocking your carts, they were bumping you with theirs. Because of this, I doubt I'll ever return to this location, unless I'm in the area. Notes: PARKING - Garage, FREE (validation) SERVICE - Polite OPTIONS - Suitable PRICE - Fair __ I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

Soooo grateful for this location and I can say its my favorite location to visit!! The staff is always so friendly and they always have everything I am looking for on every trip. First, the flower selection is always full of options and with some TLC my flowers have always lasted at least 7 days. In flower land, that's a pretty good life!! The shelves are always full and they are continuously cleaning carts after each customer. The location is one of the smaller ones but hey still routing customer through the check outs in a social distanced manner. The location can make parking tough but they do validate parking as well so its a win win if you need to park in the garage. Each visit I check out the new item shelf to see whats new in the store while still picking up my staple items. The seasonal items are in stock now which is a fun time checking out all the pumpkin items as well as the magnums of wine, advent calendars, new seasonings, new frozen items and more. I hope the staff knows how appreciated they are and how they are a bright spot providing good vibes on every visit!!

Keep in mind that Clarendon is an urban setting despite being in a D.C. suburb. That means this Trader Joe's is smaller than other locations. Despite that, they make good use of their limited space and sell all the Trader Joe's usual suspects. Just expect to feel cramped when there's a crowd there.

Flower gift from Trader Joe's Manager

I was shopping on Sunday and was talking to the employee who was serving samples. I mentioned it was my first outing after having surgery and I was delighted to sample carrot cake! When I got in line, I felt a tap on my shoulder--it was the store manager with a bouquet of flowers to wish me good health! Nice to know that there are kind people in our world!!! Thank you, Mary Kemmer

Outstanding Service from Linda at Harris Teeter…read more I visited Harris Teeter on Thursday, June 4 to pick up a few ingredients for a salad. During checkout, Linda asked if I was 55 or older. When I confirmed that I was, she informed me about Harris Teeter's Thursday promotion for customers aged 55 and above, which helped me save some money on my purchase. I was delighted to learn about this benefit and truly appreciated Linda's attentiveness, professionalism, and willingness to share information that I might not have known otherwise. Every little bit helps, and her thoughtful customer service made a positive difference in my shopping experience. I shop at Harris Teeter frequently and was glad to learn about this promotion. Thank you, Linda, for your excellent service, attention to detail, and commitment to providing outstanding customer service!

Never have I come here and the store is poorly stocked or not well-organized. This Harris Teeter also offers a huge selection of nutritional supplements and unique household items that you would have to go elsewhere to find such as a local Target, Walmart or Vitamin Shoppe store.... All under one roof! The deli, bakery and hot food bar sections are quite impressive with lots of items and goods to choose from. There are weekly meal and lunch deals offered as well....all starting around $5 bucks! But, to my surprise...one of the highlights that stood out the most is that this place conveniently has a full bar upstairs! There is a modern bar and wine shop upstairs with both offering a great selection of libation and beverages to purchase. It offers weekly happy hour specials and every day $3 dollar pints. I mean, who knew!? How many grocery stores that you patron can you say have a bar or this type of offering? In all, this Harris Teeter store location is quite impressive. The sales are great, staff are helpful and there's convenient parking on the premises of the store. The only downside I would say about this store is that the layout can be a bit overwhelming to navigate. The store is very well organized, but you do feel like you're in a bit of a maze with so many aisles to maneuver in order to find items. And God forbid., you forgot one item once you're at the cashier checkout -- that's located in the back of the store..... You will definitely have bit of a stretch to go back and get the item given the size of the store! Lol. Nevertheless, no big deal for me. This store gets two thumbs up and one of my favorites in this area. Definitely worth a trip and visit!

Did you all see the emergency services there on 9/21/2023? That was me. Yep, I needed to pick up a…read morefew things after a quick trip to cvs. I tied my dog up and went in to pick up some items. An older Asian man (store owner/manager?) approached me about my dog and an incident with a pregnant woman. She was by the front door excited speaking on the phone. In short, a pregnant woman claimed an incident with my dog, refused medical attention at the site, spoke enough English to call about 10 Latino males but not enough to call emergency services or 911 because she, and her male relatives, wanted me to transport her to the hospital. Let's unpack this. Anyways, after many excited utterances of her water breaking due to my dog, I called Arlington Police non emergency line and they sent fire truck, emts, animal control and police. I ended up calling as it didn't seem she, her male relatives or the helpful store owner/manager called and I observed a few emergency trucks driving past Pershing or near Glebe. As Arlington emergency services and police arrived, the older Asian man disappeared (along with his knowledge of the situation-- how convenient) into the ether as did most of the pregnant woman's male relatives who were there to support her and I assume, compel me into taking them all home so I could take the pregnant woman to the hospital. Also, something that seemed to evaporate and become ether was the pregnant woman's water that supposedly "broke" while I was there. Her legs, exposed just above the knee, were dry and ashy and not "slick"'or wet. Another special thing to note, the older Asian man (store owner/manager), the pregnant woman, and the pregnant woman's male family members mobile phones were not able to call 911 or emergency services. Initially, the store owner/manager, along with the woman and one of her male relatives attempted to compel me to give the pregnant woman cash on the spot. I refused to do this. So, the woman and her male relatives decided the best option was to follow me home to have me take her to the hospital from there and attempted to communicate this plan to me. Most of the male relatives showed up in trucks with some trucks having a one woman sitting inside. These male relatives could not transport her to the hospital either. I had my earbuds in and stayed in call so I was not alone. One of my relatives was convinced the store owner/manager was in on the "scam" to give the pregnant woman cash and believed he was probably receiving some type of cut or kickbacks (south Florida living does color one's perspective in interesting ways). Within 10 minutes of my call to the non-emergency line, the fire truck, emts, police and animal control arrived and took over. I do not know if the pregnant woman or her family members who did not disappear, asked the Arlington county police for me to personally take her to the hospital or to provide cash. I did observe her not allowing the emergency service to check her out. I asked the emts if they could take her to the hospital because I could not. I was told to wait for police and animal control. The fire truck and emts eventually left, as did animal control. I was told I could go. I am guessing this is not the outcome the pregnant woman, her male relatives, and quite possibly, the Glebe Market store owner or manager hoped for. Please keep in mind, there is also an older Asian female (another Glebe manager/owner -- maybe the wife or relative) that seems to like yelling at people as I observed her scurrying into Glebe market after yelling at me in CVS while I was talking to the pharmacist and picking up my prescription. Yep, she totally invaded my privacy. I thought she was homeless person that passionately cared for dogs as she was complaining that it was too hot outside for my dog (we do errands together). I double checked the weather, it said 78 F, and ignored her because I though she was having a spell. She followed me outside of CVS and by this time, is yelling and calling me awful names. I didn't say a word to her and walked around her like she wasn't there. As long as she didn't touch me, I wasn't calling the police. She loves dogs. Maybe a little too much. Of course, my dog would not let her pet him and I was still ignoring her as she had done and said awful things. I had no plans on encouraging him to allow her to hug him. I started walking the opposite way from home and observed her running into Glebe Market still yelling her awful stuff at me and running against traffic! I was very curious, changed direction and followed her inside. Of course, I did not find her. I was probably 2 minutes behind her because I had to secure my pup before going inside. This was in late spring on a Saturday morning of this year (2023).

I was then directed to bring my stuff and march over to the customer service desk, where the transaction was attempted again. Alysse took over at that point and stated that the problem had to with the wrong type of chips that were part of the combo. She instructured me to walk all the way back to the other end of the store to select a different brand of chips, that would qualify for the discounted combo price. She proceeded to scorn me and tell me that I should have selected the correct chips to begin with. I told here that the original chips that I had picked up were right next to the qualifying chips. Alysse continued to belittle me and although as she stated "doesn't work in that department" the correct type of chips should have been ovious to me, since I am just the customer of course. Mom's is a specialty store, I think that is the best word, with solid options depending on what you are looking for. As noted in other reviews, this is a smaller and more curated market. It feels somewhere between a Trader Joes and Whole Foods in terms of atmosphere and selection. It is not meant to replace your big weekly grocery run, but it really shines when you are shopping for high quality organic produce, sustainable products, or plant based alternatives. The bulk food section looked great, and there were lots of local options for dairy, meat, eggs, and more. Parking is easy-ish, especially compared to other grocery stores in the area. Checkout was quick, and the staff were friendly and genuinely helpful when I had questions. Overall, if you are open to a different kind of grocery experience that is smaller, thoughtful, and centered on organic and local products, Mom's is definitely worth a visit. Anyone who remembers this place from years ago remembers taking a number, waiting in line, and getting one of the best made-to-order subs in the region? The sandwiches were worth the wait. Maybe the parents moved back to Italia and the kids got stuck with the greedy landlord. Now its just a lazy we don't care overpriced landlord run revenue generator. 6 years after COVID and the subs are still pre-made dying in over stacked pile on the counter. The rolls are often soggy by the time they reach the customer, and the fillings are so thinly layered that each bite feels more like bread sandwich with some after thought what's inside. It screams KEEP THE COST DOWN. What was once a destination deli now feels like a place that's simply too tired to care. The decline reminds me of when DC bartenders traded free pours for jiggers. Less booze, higher prices, and a straight face while handing it to you 30 minutes later with a clever name like Adam's Apple. Same business model here. Less meat, more bread, and somehow we're all expected to clap. The saddest part is that it's still busy, largely because there are fewer and fewer alternatives. The independent mom-and-pop shops that gave this area character have been pushed out, and we're left with a shell of what this place used to be. At this point, I've had fresher and better-constructed subs from Harris Teeter. That's not meant as a compliment. When customers start comparing a legendary deli to a grocery store sandwich counter--and the grocery store holds its own--it's probably time for some serious soul-searching. Nostalgia can only carry a business so far. Unfortunately, the sandwich I had was living almost entirely on memories.
